It had seemed like forever ago when he said, “I do.” When you were finally announced as husband and wife for the first time. When your family and friends cheered as you shared the first kiss of many others to come.

And now this was another milestone.   

Through the hours of screaming. The hours of encouragement. The hours of “Push, honey! You’re doing great!” and “Honey you can do it, just breathe with me.”It happened.

She was here.

She was finally here.

And as he could do nothing but stare at her as they showed her to you for the first time. It finally hit him.

  He was a father. He had a child. She was his. 

“Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Lee, you now have a healthy baby girl,” the doctor cheered.

It rang in his ears, but he was unable do anything but stare at her. She was crying and all he wanted to do was to go over to where the doctors were and wrap her up in a blanket so she could be warm.

Babies are cold when they’re born

he thought as he tried to remember what he learned in preparation for this exact moment.

 You have to make sure they’re warm. And you have to watch their head when you hold them. Remember what you learned.

 The doctors brought her over to him and he motioned to his wife, saying that she should get to hold her first. Instantly, she stopped crying and opened her eyes to stare at the beautiful woman before her.

  “Hello, Miyoung,” she said through tears. “I’m your mom. Yes I am.” She ran her nails lightly over Miyoung’s head as he cooed and continued to stare at her mother.

  “She’s beautiful, honey,” he said as he looked at the two of them.

She turned to him. “She has her fathers eyes. They’re sparkling already, like yours always do.”

He chuckled lightly before he ran his fingers through her hair. “I hope she looks more like you than me. That’d be weird wouldn’t it?”

 “Oh I don’t know, you’ve made a pretty girl in your time, remember?” 

He sighed in embarrassment before kissing her forehead. Miyoung began coo louder and they both turned their attention to her to see what was wrong.

She was staring at her father. Staring at him with those eyes. His eyes.

“Ca-can I hold her?” he asked nervously.

She sighed “Of course, Hae.”

And she handed Miyoung to him.

And in that moment, Donghae felt his wobbly legs go steady. He felt his breathing slow down. He felt the nervousness wash away as he stared at the tiny creature in his arms.

“H-hi Miyoung,” he stuttered out. I guess I’m still a little nervous.

His wife put his hand on his arm. 

“Don’t be so scared, honey, it’s okay.” 

He looked at her nervously before turning his attention back to Miyoung as she continued to stare at him. And he finally made contact with those eyes. And he finally spoke.

“Hi, Miyoung. I’m your daddy. I’m going to work my hardest to give you the best life I can. I’ll always love you, I promise you that. Whatever you want to be in life, I swear I’ll help you with it 100%. You’re perfect already; you look just like your mother. I’ll have to scare the boys away from you. They’re going to love you so much, but not as much as me, Miyoung. I’ll love you the most.”

He had promised himself he wouldn’t cry. He didn’t want his child to ever see him cry.

He didn’t realize that he had started crying until a few dropped on Miyoung’s blanket. He chuckled and sniffed, a teardrop falling on Miyoung’s forehead. She squinted in discomfort, opening and closing .

“Ah, I’m sorry honey,” he said as he wiped her forehead lightly. “I didn’t mean to do that. That’s kind of what rain is. I’ll teach you about rain. It’s refreshing. I love standing in it and letting it soak through all my clothes. It sounds weird, doesn’t it? That’s what happened on your mine and your mom’s first date. It rained and rained in the park, but we just ran around and had fun. I hope that you’ll like the rain as much as we do.”

And then she smiled at him.

She smiled and moved her hands and made a sound Donghae had never heard before. It was the happiest noise he had ever come in contact with. Better than any song he had ever heard. Better than any applause he had received. He wanted to remember that sound for the rest of his life. He wanted to hear it again. He wanted to see her face light up and to see that smile for the rest of his life. But as she yawned and began to close her eyes slowly, he knew he would have to wait.

And as the nurse came to take her away to the nursery, he sighed and wanted nothing more than to follow the nurse and to sit and watch Miyoung sleep. Just so he could make sure she was okay.

But then he heard his wife call for him, and he turned his attention back to her.

He walked over to her with a light smile and grabbed her hand.

“Lie with me,” she said softly.

So he did. He crawled into bed with her, holding her hands to his chest as he kissed her forehead and her hair.

“You did amazing, baby,” he said softly. “I’ll stay with you now, just rest.”

 She smiled up at him. “I love you so much, Donghae.”

“And I love you,” he replied as he squeezed her hands tighter.

She sighed against him. He felt her wide, perfect smile against his chest and he looked down at her.

That was such an amazing day .. an amazing moment

" she will love the rain like us right?" Donnghae told her but she was allready asleep ...

now they are a family!!
