Chapter 1

The Shadow Hunter Life

Lent up against a cold brick wall you tried to calm yourself down, yet again you had ended up using the iratze rune to heal up the cuts spread down your limbs staining your clothes with blood, the iratze rune is the basic healing rune that is used by the children of Angels it causes the skin to close and heal quickly, which when trying to escape from a battle in which you are being bombarded by soul demons, can become handy, although it comes with the nasty unwanted side effect of a temporarily raised temperature which helps burn out any signs of infections in almost the same was as a fever does which is nasty and unpleasant, depending on the amount and how severe the wounds are the after effects could last from one to ten hours.

“Argh!” You couldn’t help but whine as you rubbed your hands through your short matted hair as the burning set in, you frowned as you knew that you would have to endure the feeling for a couple of hours, and the discomfort wasn’t helped by the fact that the weather was cold and wet, however you were left in no mind set to move. You had fallen out of a glass window of a building after fighting off a ghastly Drevark demon, this form of demon is fairly weak compared to some you had encountered during your short but thrilling life as a Shadowhunter, they are often used as warriors or slaves as the case may be by the greater demons (Demons that have immense intelligence and strength making them almost undefeatable) or evil warlocks as spies which is why removing them is of great importance. The appearance of a Drevark always brought a deep sickly feel to your stomach, they are white in colour, smooth and round and to you they bare a resemblance to a giant version of a maggot, one of your biggest pet hates. You couldn’t help but shiver at the thought as its appearance flashed up in the corner of your mind. Shadowhunter’s like yourself are used to the presence of Drevarks, to a Shadowhunter encountering a Drevark is almost as common as it is finding road kill and over the years you have managed to learn that they are blind and track their prey by scent alone ‘They don’t look very frightening’ You could remember your brother Chase ,who also was a member of the Nephilim’s, smirk as he spun his sword around carelessly in his hands ‘Just wait until he opens his mouth’ you could clearly remember sneering back, you had always disliked how he took things so many things as a joke, just because they don’t have much of a form or much intelligence doesn’t say that they aren’t dangerous, one a previous encounter in a battle you unluckily got close enough to see the rows and rows of spines in its mouth which dribbled a pale green poison which can become extremely dangerous if you should find yourself pierced by one or end up with one sticking out of your arm. “I was lucky…” You exhaled loudly as you looked at the faint lines of the remainders of the cuts, you knew you were extremely lucky not to have to need to use the Amissio rune, one which slows blood loss and speeds up blood replacement, yet you were almost certain that you would’ve had to of used it if you had fallen from a couple of stories higher.

As much as you liked working alone this time you wished another shadow hunter would've been there to help you, yes fair enough the Drevark demon isn't exactly the hardest to get rid of but it was one of your biggest fears, it's odd resemblance to a fat maggot highlighted the weakness in you, the fear of insects, that and the fear of heights didn't really help the situation but there was nothing else you could do, you defeated it with a small struggle but you got there, yes you ended up throwing yourself out of a 8th story window just to give yourself that two second advantage, enough to pierce it's heart with your blade, it was that or your willpower and energy would've been drained from the never ending swiping and dodging that with fear combined. It was a kill or be killed situation.
