A Good Place To Escape To

Description

Park Jiyoon is a socially awkward art student that's invisible to everyone. And she likes it that way. Except for her parents and her best friend, Subin, Jiyoon rarely likes to interact with others and would much rather spend her time sketching, painting or designing her next piece.

That is until an unfamiliar boy who shares a similar way of thinking walks into her life. He draws her in and his work intrigues her like no one else has managed to before.

Foreword

It was beautiful, a magical scene of some impossibly coloured flowers hidden within winding and twisting trees, coloured almost blue against a purple and orange, starry, night sky. I was drawn to the scene yet confused at the same time and couldn't help but feel intrigued by this gorgeous world that someone has managed to imagine.

I tilted my head unconsciously while studying the painting until I was drawn out of my daze by a deep, unfamiliar voice.

“Do you like it?”

I turned suddenly, my heartbeat quickening instantly with shock. I saw a smiling boy, wiping his hands with a paint splattered cloth. His tattered looking graphic t-shirt and, once, black skinny jeans were sporting the same coloured paint as was smeared on his face.

“It’s weird right?” He let out a nervous laugh, “I like to paint this place, it’s a good place to escape to, you know?”

I did know. Painting could help me get absorbed into imagination for a period of time and I had grown addicted to the sensation. It seems this boy had too.

“Can I draw you?” He asked while he propped his book on his knee and reached over to get a pencil.

I frowned, “me?”

Jongin smiled, “Yeah, you.” He laughed softly. “What? Never been drawn before? Not even a self-portrait?”

I shook my head, “I’m… not that special.” I shrugged and reached over for my own pencil.

“I beg to differ,” he simply said.

I shrugged, “I just thought it was-“

“Beautiful.” He finished, “That’s what you said when you saw it.”

We shared a moment of silent eye contact, “Ok, so I thought your weirdo painting was pretty, what are you getting at?”

“I’m saying people see things in different ways. What you might find beautiful I might find uninteresting and what you find average I might find,” there was a pause as he searched for the right word. “Extraordinary.”

Chapter 1: This is seriously good so far - I love how Jongin isn't a typical playboy in this. Can't wait for your next update!
