Little Miss Understanding
Little miss NaïveThe club was crowded and noisy, like a club should be. People were dancing. drinking and having fun and although walking through the crowd was quite difficult, Dia was already enjoying herself. Most of the music was unfamiliar to her, but that didn’t matter. It was the same when she went to a club in her hometown, although they were never as busy as this one was right now. When they had found a place where they could stand and dance, Sunggyu offered to go buy drinks. The others started dancing, Hoya catching the attention of many with his pristine dance moves. Woohyun soon disappeared, saying he was going to talk to some girls. When Sunggyu returned with the drinks, he barely moved his body and just stood there drinking.
“Aren’t you going to dance?” Dia asked him. The boy shook his head. “I’m not a good dancer.” “Don’t be ridiculous, you’re an idol, you always dance, right?” she tried to motivate him. “That’s different. Those are choreographed, not free style,” he explained. He looked so serious, Dia couldn’t help but giggle softly. “You are making too big a deal out of this. You just have to move,” she said with a smile. “I can’t,” Sunggyu whined, but Dia didn’t let him off that easily. There was no fun going to a club if you weren’t going to dance, right? She held out her hands and when he took them she danced with him for a while. “See, it’s not that hard,” she said letting him go. “Alright, alright, I’ll dance,” he gave in.
“No fair if only you get to dance with her, hyung,” Sungyeol commented with a pout. “Now you have to dance with all of us,” Dongwoo agreed. “I don’t mind,” Dia replied with a smile. Being in a club with loud music meant they couldn’t really talk, so she had less opportunities to embarrass herself, so she felt a little more relaxed. She danced with Sungyeol first, followed by dancing with Dongwoo and Sunjong.
They all spend the night dancing and having fun, until it was time to head back to their dorms. “You looked like you had more fun in the club than at dinner,” Hoya commented. “I had fun at dinner too,” Dia retorted. “Maybe she was nervous?” Sunggyu suggested. Dia nodded. “I was.” “Someone should bring you home,” Sungjong suggested. “Shall I walk with you?” “Please do, I’d totally get lost if I had to walk by myself,” she replied. Somehow she had barely seen Myungsoo in the club. Although she had danced with everyone else, he hadn’t been near her for most of the night. Although Woohyun had gone off to talk with girls, he had returned pretty quickly, though he never mentioned that he hadn’t been successful.
“So, you did have fun?” Sungjong asked her, as they were walking to her dorm. “Of course I did,” Dia replied with a smile. “Don’t just say it because I suggested it, okay?” he told her, looking quite concerned. “I’m not. I really did have fun. Did I seem like I wasn’t enjoying myself?” “Well, you didn’t sing much at the karaoke…” “Because you are all such good singers! I didn’t want to embarrass myself.” “I’m sure you wouldn’t have! But wasn’t it boring just watching everyone else have fun?” “It wasn’t. I had fun watching you all sing,” she assured him. Sungjong seemed relieved to hear this and smiled. “We’re here,” he then stated. “Thanks for bringing me home, and for helping to organise a great party,” Dia said smiling. “Good night!” “Good night!”
Dia was already drifting off to sleep when her phone buzzed. Her mind registered the faint sound, but she was too sleepy to react and instead dozed off. When she woke that morning she realised she was already rather late for work and instead of reading the text she had gotten, she hurried to get dressed and rushed to the office. She was barely on time, the boys already in the classroom when she reached it.
“Did you oversleep?” Sungyeol asked with a grin. “Well, I was up until kind of late last night,” Dia replied defensively. “What did you do to her, Sungjong?” Dongwoo joked. “Did you get lost too?” Sungyeol added enthusiastically. “I didn’t get lost! I dropped her off at home, that’s all,” Sungjong protested. “Let’s start the lesson now?” Dia suggested, stopping the boys from teasing Sungjong even more.
The boys left the room after the lesson was finished, yet Myungsoo stayed behind, causing Dia to frown. “Did you have a question L-sshi?” she asked him. He looked at her with a bored look on his face. “Just one.” “Then ask it?” Dia suggested with a shrug. “Are you angry?” “Angry? Why would I be angry?” her voice sounded as confused as she felt. “Angry, yes, didn’t you hear me? And how should I know why you are angry?” Just for a second she thought he sounded frustrated, but she couldn’t be sure, since he was looking at her so coldly. “I’m not angry,” she tried to assure him. “Then why did you ignore my text?” he asked quietly, no longer looking at her. “Text? Oh!” she instantly got her phone from her pocket, checking the text. “I arrived safely,” she replied, with a chuckle. Myungsoo was not amused. “I’m sorry. I was already asleep. And since I was late this morning…” He frowned as he looked at her. “So you’re not mad?” “I already said I’m not,” Dia sighed. “Why would you even think that?” He narrowed his eyes at her, studying her face. “You really don’t know?” “I don’t. So are you going to tell me or not?” she asked, getting slightly frustrated.
“Yah! L-ie! We have to go to our next schedule,” Suddenly Sungyeol’s voice sounded through the hallway. “You’re taking way too long!” “I have to go,” Myungsoo said simply and turned around. “So you’re not going to tell me,” Dia muttered. “Well, glad I could answer your question, L-sshi,” she called after him as he walked away. She hadn’t been angry before, but now she was feeling pissed off. She didn’t know why he had acted like this and at the moment she couldn’t care less. She had more important things to do. Like work. She did not care. Or at least, she tried to convince herself she didn’t. She took her phone and checked the time. It was still early, Hee-Jin wouldn’t be awake yet. She still send her a line message, knowing the girl would probably have her phone on silent anyway.
Her next lessons kept her mind of things and by the time she was done she had almost forgotten she had even gotten into an argument. She was tired and just wanted to go home. Checking her phone for the time, she noticed Hee-jin had replied ages ago.
Call him. He should at least explain why he’s angry. He definitely sounds angry, from how you describe him.
Dia smiled as she read the message.
I will, tomorrow or something. I’m too tired now, after work.
She received an instant reply.
Do it now. No procrastination.
Hee-Jin was right. If she put it off, she wouldn’t do anything at all. She didn’t even want to call. What could she say? ‘Why are you angry?’ She was pretty sure she hadn’t done anything wrong. She went through her phone scrolling to Myungsoo in her contact list. Her finger hovered over the call button and after a while of going back and forth pressed it. Please don’t pick up. Please don’t. She repeated in her mind and to her relief, he didn’t.
He’s not picking up, so I’m going home to sleep now ^^;
As soon as Dia got home, she dropped down on her bed, exhausted. She had been working the whole day, barely time to even eat something. She had given lessons to Infinite, trainees, idol, she had been working nonstop. She drifted off to sleep right away. Four hours later she was woken by the sound of her phone. She sleepily reached her hand out, taking the phone without even looking at it.
“Ja?” she muttered sleepily.
“Moya?” she heard, and it took her a while to process this wasn’t her language.
“Hello?” she tried uncertainly.
“Dia?” she now heard.
“It’s me, yes.”
“You called me? Were you sleeping?”
“I called? I don’t call people,” she muttered, still sleepy. She slowly moved to sit on her bed as she heard the boy who called her chuckle softly.
“You sound tired.”
“I am tired,” she replied, and glanced at her clock. “It’s 3 AM, of course I’m tired.”
“I’ll let you sleep then.”
“No, wait!” she exclaimed. “Why did you call?”
“Don’t give me that. You called me, right? But I missed it so I called back, it’s common courtesy,” Myungsoo replied with a sigh.
“Oh. I did, didn’t I?”
“You did. Why?”
“Oh, right. Because…” she started. ‘Because my best friend said so’ is not going to be a good enough reason is it? she thought.
“I guess, I just wanted to finish our conversation from before.”
“About you being angry at me?” he asked her.
“I’m not angry! Or at least I wasn’t!” she yelled out in frustration, for a second forgetting what time it was.
“Then why did you stop texting me?” He made it sound like an accusation and it took her a while to process.
“See, now you’re quiet,” he muttered.
“Because I was surprised. What did you expect me to text? I’m working. Working again. Going to sleep. Tired from work. Back to working. That’s pretty much what I do all day. Not really interesting, right?”
“I guess. So, you’re not angry because I pretended not to know you or anything?”
Dia sighed.
“Why would I be? You already explained that right?”
“I guess that’s good, then.”
“Did you have to work until this late?” she then asked, curious. She felt bad for complaining about being tired, when he was having it so much worse.
“I did. We’re just about to head back to the dorm.”
“I guess I shouldn’t keep you then.”
“I don’t mind.”
“You’re not tired?” she asked him, surprised.
“I’m not that tired,” he said simply. “Oh, but you were sleeping, so you must want to go back to sleep, right?”
She chuckled softly now.
“I’m already awake now. It’s not like I will fall asleep again right away anyway.”
“Have you eaten?”
“I… I don’t think I have,” she admitted.
“Let’s eat together? If all you’ve been doing is working and sleeping, you can’t have been that content with your life here.”
“Let’s,” she agreed.
