Promises

Greatest Love

18-year old Jinyoung was walking along the streets of Seoul, South Korea, as he was on his way to the JYP Entertainment building. It was snowing, so he had a thick layer of clothes on. He had his earphones stuck in his ear as he tried to remember the moves he has to perform for the monthly evaluation of trainees an hour or two from now. It was very cold, but still he had to go to the JYP Entertainment to perform. Being an idol was his lifelong dream, anyway.

He nodded his head to the beat of the song he was listening to and looked around to see whether or not the JYP Entertainment building is close by, but something else caught his eye - or it was rather someone. It was a girl, and Jinyoung found it unusual to see someone on the streets during this time of the day, when snow is falling. People are expected to stay in their homes by the time, but Jinyoung is an exception because he had to attend the evaluation. One more thing that made him notice the girl is that she looked uneasy, and Jinyoung assumed that she was lost.

As Jinyoung walked closer, she saw that the girl had a scarf around her neck, and it covered . She had long, black hair, and bangs. Jinyoung couldn't get a good look on her face because she wasn't facing him, but Jinyoung could say that her skin was pale, almost as pale as the falling snow. When Jinyoung was finally a few steps closer to her, he gave her a gentle pat on the shoulder, making her turn to him, and Jinyoung tells himself that she has the prettiest pair of eyes that he have seen.

"Excuse me, miss, but are you lost?" Jinyoung asked her, bending over slightly so she could hear. The girl took a moment to look back at him for a few seconds before nodding her head slowly, slightly blushing at the thought of her being lost. She blushed even harder when she saw Jinyoung smile, with his eyes crinkling, and a grin spreading across his lips. Jinyoung let out a soft chuckle before saying, "Don't worry, I'll help you. I've lived around here for more than a year now. Where are you heading?"

That was when the girl lowered her scarf down, and Jinyoung got a good view of her face, and he would be lying if he said he didn't find her beautiful. She had the look of innocence on her face, as if she was fragile. Jinyoung thinks that she's the type of person that should be taken care of. "I'm heading to the JYP Entertainment building," the girl said, her voice soft, before blinking as she looked up at Jinyoung, who was chuckling once more.

"Funny. That's where I was heading, too." Jinyoung leaned back as he was saying this, before stuffing his hands inside his front pockets to seek warmth. The girl found herself smiling at Jinyoung's words, and Jinyoung just couldn't help but smile back. "Follow me, I'll take you there." Jinyoung told her before turning to look at the block beside them - the block they had to take to reach the building. Jinyoung started to take a few steps towards the block, but he stopped in his tracks when he saw that the girl wasn't following.

He looked at the girl standing there, not making a move. Oh, right, Jinyoung thought to himself, before giving her a heartwarming smile. "Come on, I'm not gonna do any harm to you." He said as he walked back to her direction, and, bending over once more, he said, "I'm Park Jinyoung, and I'm 18. I'm one of JYP Entertainment's trainees. And I guarantee you that I'll be able to take you there safely, because I have an evaluation to catch." He smiled at her once again, and offered his arm for her to take.

Though a little hesitant, the girl linked her arm with his and looked up at him, giving him an approving nod. She didn't know why, but somehow she felt like she could trust this guy. She found something in him that was indeed very pleasant and welcoming, and the thought of him being the same age as her made her think that they could be great friends, soon, she hopes.

As they walked, she decided to tell him her name. "I'm Suzy, by the way." She said in her soft voice, making Jinyoung turn to look at her. "And I'm eighteen years old, too. I'm one of JYP's newest trainees, and today is my first day." As she was talking, Jinyoung took the moment to look at her facial features, and Jinyoung couldn't help but smile. It's good to know someone else in the company who was his age aside from his close friend Jaebum, and somehow, Jinyoung hopes he could hear more of Suzy once they start working together under the same label.

They talked about themselves until they reached the entertainment building, and that was when Suzy realized that she was holding onto Jinyoung rather tightly, so she quickly let go of his arm around hers and coughed a little. Jinyoung noticed this and flashed her a cheeky smile. "I'm heading upstairs," Jinyoung said, pointing to the staircase in front of them. "As far as I remember, new trainees are supposed to meet with PD-nim over there." He said as he pointed to the office just a few rooms away, and before making his way to the staircase, he leaned in and whispered in Suzy's ear, "JYP's really not that approachable to look at, so just always remember to greet him a soft 'good day' before conversing with him and you're good to go."

Suzy let out a soft chuckle at his words, and then she nodded. She waved goodbye at Jinyoung when he walked over to the staircase, and then she found herself calling his name. When Jinyoung turned, he still had that stupid grin on his face, pausing on his tracks as he waited for Suzy to speak once again. "Good luck on the evaluation," Suzy said in a very friendly manner. "And thanks for taking me here."

Once again, Jinyoung's eyes crinkled as he smiled. "You're welcome, Suzy. Anytime."

"How are you? I haven't heard from you lately. Funny because we're on the same company but it feels like we're from different worlds."

It was autumn, and Suzy and Jinyoung had the day off. A lot of months have passed since they first met, and they developed a good friendship between the both of them. They were out in the streets eating street food, their personal favorite. They were in the middle of paying for the food they ate when Suzy spoke up, making Jinyoung chuckle at her statement.

"That's true. The JYP Entertainment Building is not that big but we don't see each other around that much, how ironic." Jinyoung let out a sigh before walking away from the street food stand, with Suzy following suit. "I kinda missed hanging around with you, you know?" Jinyoung breathed out, making Suzy glance at him.

"Me, too." She said in all honesty, and that was when she felt Jinyoung wrap an arm around her shoulder casually, pulling her close. "H-hey, why are you being like this all of a sudden, Park Jinyoung?" Suzy asked, and she let out a short, nervous chuckle. She wouldn't deny that her heart started to beat faster than normal because of Jinyoung's actions, but she tried to act cool.

"Promise me," Jinyoung looked at her straight in the eyes. "Promise me that you'd never forget about me once we both debut, and become so popular and all those things. Promise me that you'd stay by my side, that you'd stay as my best friend." He said as he stopped walking, making Suzy stop as well. It was one of the rare times where Jinyoung becomes a little emotional, but, being his best friend, Suzy understands.

So she looks back at him, flashed him a smile, and nodded her head. "I promise, Jinyoung. I promise."

Suzy was falling for Jinyoung.

Ten months in their friendship and quick hugs turned into long, tighter ones, and they started to long for each other's presence more than they expected. 30-minute late night calls turned into an hour or two of calling, and whenever they would meet each other by the corridors, it wouldn't be just short "Hi"s and "Hello"s, but they would emerge into long conversations, and they would laugh at jokes only the both of them know.

One day, Jinyoung burst into Suzy and her group's practice room. He had this wide smile on his face as he ran inside, not even caring about Fei and Jia and Min, who were giving him confused stares. He just dashed to Suzy's direction and gave his best friend a big hug, and even carried her up and spun her around, making Suzy blush.

"W-what's happening? Why are you so happy?" Suzy asked when Jinyoung finally set her down, leaving her breathless from all the laughing. She had never seen Jinyoung this happy before, and just the sight of him being all jumpy and excited made her smile, too. Suzy looked at him as she waited for his answer, and that was when he loudly said, "I'm going to debut! Finally!"

This time, it was Suzy's turn to squeal out of glee, and before she knows it, Jinyoung was wraping his arms around her once again in a tight hug. "I'm so happy for you, congratulations!" Suzy said as they hugged, and as she was about to pull away, she felt Jinyoung holding her tightly, as if he didn't want to let her go.

"I'm finally going to live the dream, Suzy..." Jinyoung's voice was faint, and it made Suzy smile. She was genuinely happy for him, because she knows how much he has been waiting for this day to come. She had debuted in a four-member girl group before he did and now he was going to debut in a duo of his own, and Suzy never felt even more proud. "I'm finally going to have the chance to show the world how good I am. You believe in me, right?"

Suzy didn't even need some time to think for an answer. "Of course I believe in you, Jinyoung." She pulled away slightly from his hug and looked up at him with a soft, sweet smile, and then she nodded. "I have always believed in you, and I would never stop doing so." As she said this, she looked at Jinyoung intently, and thought that despite the fact that she was happy that Jinyoung was finally debuting, she felt a little sad on the inside, too, because it means that they would spend much lesser time with each other. But if it's about Jinyoung's dream, then Suzy would be fine with it.

There was a short moment of silence between the both of them when Suzy asked him the same thing he did just a few months ago. "You'd still stay as my best friend after all these happen, right?"

And, like Suzy did earlier, Jinyoung didn't need some time to think of an answer. "Yes," he answered quickly. "I'd still be your best friend. That's a promise."

Suzy was already falling for Jinyoung, but she doesn't tell him. She didn't want him to get all confused and whatnot, because she thinks that it might ruin his path to stardom. So Suzy chooses to wait for the right time to tell him, and the right time is not now.

When Jinyoung left Miss A's practice room, Fei, Min, and Jia quickly ran to Suzy's side with questioning looks. "When are you planning to tell him about your true feelings, Suzy?" Jia asked her, blinking. Suzy just let out a soft sigh and answered her leader. "In the right time, unnie. I'll wait for the right time, no matter how long it would take."
