Foreword

“Taekwoon oppa!! Taekwoon oppa! Open your door!” A high pitched voice calls out from outside Taekwoon’s room. Jaehee was impatiently banging on Taekwoon’s door, demanding him to open it quick. Taekwoon wakes up from the loud noises but refuses to get up and burries himself under his blanket and tried his best to cover his ears with his pillow. But it doesn’t block the banging and yelling from outside. He opens his eyes, checks his phone for the time, and it’s only 7 am. Only 7 am and already 10 missed calls. With growing irritation, he throws his pillow to the floor and kicks his blanket off his body. Taekwoon jumps out of bed and makes his way to open the door, while rubbing his eyes which refuses to wake up. As soon as he opens the door Jaehee jumps to hug him. “Taekwoon oppa!!” Jaehee sings with so much glee. “What are you?” Taekwoon responds in his usually monotonic voice with a hint of irritation. “I’ve been calling you but never answered. I thought maybe you were playing hard to get again, so instead, I texted you that I was coming.” Jaehee proudly explains to him, ignoring his reaction, or the lack thereof. Her arms still tightly wrapped around his waist. Taekwoon tries to free himself but initially fails. “What do you want?” Still monotonic. Jaehee finally frees him and hands him a paper bag. “Jajan! Happy 100 days, Taekwoonie oppa”. Leo doesn’t take the bag so Jaehee grabs his hand and hangs the bag on it. She then proceeds to enter his room and sits herself on his study chair. Taekwoon, still half asleep, half irritated, turns to look at her. “What… is this? And who told you you can enter my room?”. “If you’re curious then open it. I just wanted to sit for a while. You have no idea how long i waited outside your door just to give this to you.” Jaehee pouts while pretending to massage her supposedly hurting calves. But Taekwoon doesn’t seem to care because he knows it is just an act. With the paper bag still hanging from his hand, he walks up to her and gives her an intense stare. “Now that you’ve done what you wanted to do…you can leave.” His voice softer than ever. But his tone hints that he is not taking any more of her crap this early in the morning. Jaehee senses that signal and quickly stands up and grimaced at her defeat. “Fine.” She cooly walks herself out but stops at the door when she sees her twin. “Jaehwanah… what are you doing here?” Jaehwan smiles brightly at his twin sister who was totally unexpecting him. But there is another person who wasn’t expecting him. Taekwoon approaches his door to check if it is the person he thinks it is. Another unexpected but totally not unwelcomed guest. “I knew you were here.” Jaehwan laughs at Jaehee who now feels embarrassed. Jaehee knows that Jaehwan knows she likes Taekwoon so much. Heck, everyone knows including Taekwoon himself. She has always been so blunt about it, but somehow she still feels embarrassed when her twin teases her. Taekwoon is now standing right behind Jaehee and Jaehwan spots the paper bag that he is still holding. “Oh! Is that what I think it is? I couldn’t find it this morning.” Jaehwan is eyeing the paper bag but directs the question to Jaehee. Jaehee just nods, still feeling embarrassed. Taekwoon, on the other hand, looks confused. “This? Is this yours?” He asks Jaehwan. “Sort of..but not really. It was kind of made for you, i guess. Happy 100 days, Taekwoonie hyung.” Jaehwan smiles at the now more confused Taekwoon. “Seriously people. What is this about?” “Hyung, it has been 100 days since you moved in with us. That’s just a small present to celebrate.” Jaehwan points at the paperbag. Taekwoon opens it and finds a box filled with beautifully decorated fruit tarts. His eyes widens at the sight of such masterpiece, and his mouth starts to water. But above all that, he feels like he’s blushing and he is silently praying really hard that it doesn’t show. “You..you made these for me?” He manages to ask. “Honestly, I was experimenting on different desserts for the restaurant’s menu. I asked Jaehee to try it, and she liked it and she thinks they look nice. she thought someone else should try it. Someone with an unbiased opinion and suggested you. I guess it worked well since it’s also your 100th day.” He chuckles as he ruffles Jaehee’s hair. “Oh…” Taekwoon feels disapponted upon hearing this. That wasn’t the explanation that he was expecting from him. “We better get going. Jaehee. See you later, hyung.” Jaehwan bids Taekwoon goodbye, and so does Jaehee. “See you later, oppa. Enjoy the tarts.” Leo just watched them go, his usual expressionless self. He puts the box of tarts on the table and starts contemplating if he should try it or not. He isn’t as excited as he was when he found out Jaehwan made them. Yes, Jaehwan made them. But not especially for him. He was just a mere food taster for chef Jaehwan Lee. He scoffs at the thought but decided to try it anyway. After all, it is food, and food made by Jaehwan, more than anything else.
