Prologue

[Nobody's POV]

     It was a horrible day.

     Far from horrible, to be precise. If Jieun had to choose a word (or a few words) to describe this day, it would be infinitely horrible. When there is a bad starting, everything would become bad.

     Firstly, in the morning, Jieun suddenly had a stomachache. It lasted for minutes before disappearing. Thinking that it wouldn't come back again, she was wrong. It attacked her repeatedly throughout the day and thank God it wasn't attacking her now. Secondly when she had just stepped out of her house she just had to not see that huge opened drain and yep, you got it correct, she just had to step into the hole and trip with one leg in and one leg out.

     Thinking that the day couldn't get worse, she was wrong. Walking to school with a bloody, scraped leg seemed to be the worst thing that could happen. But no, suddenly the sky darkened and it began to rain. Caught in the rain without an umbrella, naturally Jieun was drenched.

     After Jieun reached school, once again another bad thing came to find her. Her history teacher stopped her in the corridor and started scolding her for failing her history test.

     Could this day get any worse?

[Jieun's POV]

     “I can't believe my luck,” I ranted at my seatmate, Jiyeon, who was trying to clean up my wound on my leg. I winced when she accidentally touched the cut area.

     “Be more careful next time, Jieun-ah.”

     “Ne, arasseo.”

     At that precise moment the teacher walked in. Kim seonsaengnim slammed the pile of papers he was holding in his hand then looked up expectantly at the students.

     “It is my grave misfortune to tell you students that you have to do a project—”

     All the students groaned but Kim seonsaengnim was not deterred and continued with what he was saying.

     “—with an assigned partner—”

     The students groaned even more.

     “—that you've never worked with —”

     The groans became louder.

     “—for one year.”

     “What do you mean by an assigned partner which we've never worked with? I mean, we've worked with almost everyone in this class,” Yang Yoseob raised his hand.

     “That means that you are assigned to someone you don't know from another class,” Kim seonsaengnim said, smiling slightly.

     Yoseob's face fell and he took a slight glance in my direction. “But Kim seonsaengnim!” he whined.

     “No buts. Now... Yoseob? Your partner is Suzy Bae from 1/3.”

     Yoseob let his hand drop onto the table and shot me one last resigned look.

     “Lee Jieun?”

     I looked up. Kim seonsaengnim was looking at me with his owl eyes.

     “Your partner is Jang Wooyoung from 1/1.”
