Autumn, 1388. During the last solid year of the Goryeo Dynasty, a baby had befallen the Park household out of wedlock, just as news have broken out that General Lee Seonggye, soon to be the founder of a new dynasty, had revolted against the Empire and was now pushing his army into the capital, Kaesong.

The baby's father was Lee Bangwon, the General's fifth son and one of the main forces assisting this revolution.

Year 1392. Just four years after the coup d'état, General Lee dethroned the puppet King Gongyang, and the Goryeo dynasty had come to an end after 475 years of rule. Soon he established a new dynasty as he was crowned King Taejo, the founder of Joseon, and the capital was to be moved from Kaesong to Hanyang (modern-day Seoul).

Year 1398. King Taejo abdicated and handed over the throne to his second son Lee Bang-gwa, which was to be crowned as the new King Jeongjong of Joseon.

Year 1400. King Jeongjong, who was afraid of his powerful younger brother, named Lee Bangwon the crown prince and abdicated in the same year. Lee Bangwon assumed the throne as King Taejong, the third king of Joseon.

In 1408, a favoured eunuch and a group of servants from the Ming Empire of China were deployed to Joseon, Korea to demand for silk, clothes, fur, and the most beautiful s for the 'furnishing' of the Forbidden City construction project. Three hundred girls were gathered—from impoverished families, noble clans, no matter—but only six were selected to be brought 600 miles across land from Hanyang to the new capital of the Chinese Empire, then Beiping. And yet, History recorded only five korean women in Emperor Yongle's harem: Consort Gong Xian Xian, Consort Shun, Lee Zhaoyi, Ryeo Jieyu, and the famed Lady Choi. It seems, one had gone missing along the way. 

600 years later, a peculiar girl of undisclosed background appears and soon, takes the Hallyu Wave by a storm. 

Her name is Park Sooyoung.
