the way the poison would disintegrate into the darkness was mesmerizing, the smell intoxicating. it was how jungkook smelled, like smoke and night air, and taehyung was  enthralled.

jungkook was leaning up against the wall, leg propped up and cigarette held loosely between his fingers. he looked too much like a typical movie character and suddenly, taehyung understood the appeal.

jungkook lifted his head at the sound of footsteps, the smallest of smiles playing across his features. he waited until taehyung was beside him before taking a long drag and crashing their lips together.

taehyung was drunk, completely and utterly drunk on the taste of jungkook and second hand smoke. he let the smoke fill his lungs and the feel of jungkook overwhelm his senses as the other brought his free hand to tangle in taehyung’s hair.

they broke apart as taehyung let the toxins out, jungkook watching taehyung’s lips intently. slowly, almost cautiously, he kissed the older again. jungkook kisses were careful this time and he dropped the cigarette to the ground, stamping it out with the heel of his shoe. taehyung let himself wind his arms around jungkook’s waist, pulling him close, closer.

“i’m sorry,” jungkook mumbled, his words soft and gaze softer. “i shouldn’t have asked you to come all the way over here. it’s not safe for you.”

taehyung shook his head lightly, pressing his lips to jungkook’s again. “it’s not really ideal for you to be in my neighbourhood either. i’d rather come to you.”

it was cliche, taehyung knew it. the popular, rich kid falling for the problematic, rebellious kid. he thought their story sounded like every young adult novel in his younger sister’s room.

(not that he minded.)

jungkook hummed out his reply. it was neither a yes or a no, nor a definitive answer, but taehyung understood. he figured out jungkook’s way of communication a long time ago.

alleyways were familiar to taehyung now, late night meetings away from prying eyes and jungkook, jungkook, always there to keep taehyung from harm. the first time was scary - terrifying even - and taehyung was too frightened to step even three feet into the dingy area. jungkook had rolled his eyes in exasperation yet kissed taehyung’s forehead gently in reassurance.

taehyung couldn’t see it, see his life without the enigma that was jeon jungkook, and he was completely addicted.
