Foreword

Since Eunjung was five years old, her parents had started quarrelling and they refused to stop. Every day, the little girl would watch as her mother and father argue against each other about multiple topics on the way to work, on the way back home or even during a family dinner.

When Eunjung turned 7, her mother had given up. She had had enough of her husband's arrogant and rude behaviour towards her and her child so she signed a divorcement paper and fled to Seoul where the rest of her family lived. This was unfortunately a great mistake. Eunsang (Eunjung's mum) came from a very poor family and so she had to work hard in order to support them as well as her own daughter. After that day, Eunjung barely spent much time with her mother and was often sent to school on the back of an old bicycle which her granddad rode on everyday to work. Although the girl never complained, she secretly wished that all that would change. She wished that her parents never fought and she wished that her mother never moved out.

On her 15th birthday, Eunjung's grandfather had passed away, as well as her father who had passed away several weeks before her mother remarried. Once again, Eunjung never complained. Instead, she would speak all her wishes to her favourite doll which she got as a gift from her Aunty the day before her parents broke up.

"If you want to say something you're not willing to share with anyone else, go ahead and tell this doll. He will listen to you and even though he never replies, he is always listening and he understands every word you say... Just call his name~"
