“Joohyunnie!” Tiffany called as she spotted her friend at the airport.

Joohyun looked up sullenly as she dragged her suitcase across the airport and saw her unnie. Seeing her made her feel all the emotions she was able to suppress while she was on the plane.

She ran towards Tiffany as she tried to stifle her sobs.

Tiffany met her halfway and embraced her.

“Unnie… I-I left him. I didn’t want to. I really didn’t.”

“It’s okay, Joohyunnie. You had to.” Tiffany comforted her as she her hair. “With only two days left, you know it was your only choice.”

Joohyun didn’t reply. Instead, she kept on sobbing until there were no more tears for her to cry.

September 18^th, 2010

“Joohyun, Sunny! Hurry up, the train’s leaving in 3 minutes!” Professors Wright and Lau called out to the two girls who were sprinting towards the train.

“Coming!” Joohyun and Sunny responded as they sprinted faster, carrying with them, heavy suitcases.

“You shouldn’t have dragged all your belongings, ladies. We’ll be back in London on the holidays, after all.” Professor Wright told them.

“Ah, well. Joohyun here isn’t. She’ll be staying with her aunt until the exchange program is over.” Sunny explained as she looked at the latter.

“Well, I guess that’s okay. Who knows? Maestro Stresemann happens to be the conductor for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra… so some of you just might get your big break in this 2-year course.” The professor looked at them proudly as he patted them in the head. “Now…get yourselves in before the train leaves all four of us.”

“Yes, sir!” Sunny replied enthusiastically while Joohyun gave a simple nod.

They boarded the train and sat along with Tiffany and Jessica.

The train ride to Vienna Institute of Music lasted for about 4 hours and all the while, Joohyun looked through the glass windows of the train, wishing she was back in Korea.

February 12^th, 2011

“Well done, everyone! C’est magnifique!” Maestro Stresemann clapped as the selected students from the University of London-College of Music finished their orchestra piece.

The students all grinned at each other as they thanked the Maestro.

“Okay, you are dismissed.” The Maestro spoke, trying hard to mask his accent. “Well, except for Ms. Seo and Mr. Wu. I’d like to talk to you.”

“Yes, maestro.” The two students walked towards the renowned conductor, both wondering why their attentions were called.

Joohyun was nervous. Kris Wu, on the other hand, seemed unperturbed. Well, he’s 2 years older, after all. Much more experienced.

Maestro Stresemann looked at them, smiling. “I would just like to commend you for your outstanding performance.”

“Thank you, maestro.” They answered simultaneously.

“Ms. Seo, you haven’t been in the orchestra for long, but you have already showed excellence in playing your music. Not only that, your compositions are genius, if I must say. Keep it up, okay?”

“Yes, Maestro.”

“As for you, Mr. Wu, your violin playing is impeccable. Since you are 2 years ahead of Ms. Seo, you end your exchange program in August, right?”

“Yes, maestro…” Kris Wu answered hesitantly, not knowing where the distinguished musician was going with this.

“How would you like to join the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra?”

“W-what?” Kris looked at him, wide-eyed.

“You’re talented. Too talented to let go. So… how about it?”

“Yes, maestro! Thank you.” Kris smiled at Stresemann as he shook his hand in thanks.

Stresemann then turned towards Joohyun. “As for you, Ms. Seo, I can’t take you out of the Institute just yet, but in a year or so, I’m sure the School Board will let me have you as a concert pianist.”

“Yes. Thank you, maestro.”

March 2^nd, 2012

Joohyun’s tears fell as she played Chopin’s Prelude no.15 in D Flat. Her fingers, expertly moving through the keys of the grand piano.

“It’s been two years, now. Do you think she’ll ever get over him?” Jessica asked Tiffany and Sunny as they looked at Joohyun from afar.

“I’m not sure… Let’s hope. Now that she’s got the Orchestra to keep her busy, maybe she will at least get her mind off things for a while. ” Tiffany told them as she looked pitifully towards her crying dongsaeng.

“That Kris guy from the orchestra keeps asking her out, but she refuses him every single time! If I had a suitor that hot, I’d say ‘yes’ in a heartbeat!” Sunny told them.

“Really? He’s been appointed concertmaster, right?” Jessica asked Sunny.

“Yes. Jinwoon and Yonghwa have asked her out as well, but she keeps on refusing.”

The girls sighed simultaneously as they looked at the still-crying Joohyun.

September 20^th, 2013

“Look, some Korean dude’s been dubbed as the next Bill Gates!” Kris yelled as he scrolled through his computer.

“Really, really? Lemme see!” James, the oboist, ran towards Kris.

The others came crowding right after.

“Wow, he’s pretty hot.”

“Yeah, he doesn’t seem like a computer geek at all.”

“Really?!” Jessica, Tiffany and Sunny went running towards Kris’ computer, intrigued by the ‘supposed’ hottie computer geek.

“Heyy, it’s Joohyun’s e---” Sunny started, but was cut off by Tiffany’s hand.

Joohyun was startled at the sound of her name. She then slowly walked towards the crowd to see what the commotion was all about.

She strained to see the news article but was blocked by Tiffany.

“No, Joohyunnie. He really isn’t that hot. Just a mediocre kind of hot, if you know what I mean----”

Joohyun had already gotten Tiffany’s hand out of the way and saw what she was trying so hard to block.

“Ohh…”

“Joohyunnie---” Sunny started.

“It’s okay, unnie. I’m glad he’s doing well.” Joohyun tried to smile as she walked away from the crowd.

It’s been more than three years. Why does it still hurt?

November 1^st, 2013

“Hey, how is she?” Kyuhyun spoke into the phone.

“She’s doing quite well. She even has a series of solo concerts in Berlin for 5 months.”

“That’s good to hear.”

“Kyuhyun-oppa, you’ve been watching her through me for 3 years now. Why not just visit her here?”

“I can’t…”

“But Kyuhyun-oppa… She’s hurting. She misses you. ”

“I will just be pulling her back, if I try to reach out to her.”

“Well, if you change your mind, we’ll be in Berlin starting next week.”

“Thanks, Jessica.” Kyuhyun told her as he ended the call.

January 30^th, 2014

Kyuhyun adjusted his cap, blending in perfectly in the crowd.

He then looked at the pianist from afar as she the last few notes of the piece.

Excellent as ever, Seohyunnie.

He then saw the concertmaster from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra approach Joohyun with a bottle of water.

I’m too late.

With a stabbing pain in his chest, Kyuhyun went back to the hotel to pack up his things and leave Berlin.

January 20^th, 2015-Seoul

Kyuhyun looked up at the sky as the clouds greyed upon him. He couldn’t help but be reminded of London. He couldn’t help but be reminded of her.

It’s been 5 years since our fateful encounter and I still can’t forget about you.  I regret not coming after you. I regret not telling you to stay. I had loved you and I still do. I knew in my heart you were the one, but I was too reluctant. 

Seohyunnie, if I had begged you to, would you have stayed?

January 20^th, 2015- London

“Joohyun!”  Kris called the girl with the long, brown wavy hair and porcelain skin.

Joohyun turned around to look at him with a small smile. “Oh, hi there Kris. What’s up?”

“I just wanted to know if you were free today... For a cup of coffee, maybe? Or tea?” The tall blonde male asked shyly.

Joohyun gave the boy an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry, Kris. Not today.”

“I understand.” Kris nodded once, then sprinted off.

“Tsk, tsk. Joohyunnnie, you shouldn’t keep rejecting guys like that. Especially now that you’re back for good. How are you going to get over---” Tiffany was cut off by Jessica’s hand.

Joohyun looked at them with glossy eyes as she stared off into space with a sad smile. “I don’t think I ever will, unnie.”

Joohyun closed her eyes to retrace the memories of Cho Kyuhyun.

It’s been 5 years since we met and yet, your memories are still vivid in my mind.  I regret not telling you the truth. I regret not staying by your side.

I still love you... so much, it hurts not to be with you. I know in my heart you’re the only one.

Kyuhyun, if I reach out to you now, would you grab my hand and take me back?

September 30^th, 2015

Joohyun flipped through the channels of her TV and saw something that made her go back to the news channel.

“Korean software programmer, Cho Kyuhyun has developed another program that leads everyone to believe he might even surpass the likes of Bill Gates. It is rumored that he will visit London next year to conduct a seminar regarding his new program.”

Joohyun found herself smiling at the sight of Kyuhyun.

I’m proud of you, oppa.

January 19^th, 2017

“Songsaengnim!” Joohyun called out to Professor Henry Lau.

“Hello, Joohyun-ah. Please stop calling me that. We’re both professors now.”

“I can’t help it. Songsaengnim was already a professor when I was still a student here.”

“Well, I guess it can’t be helped.” Henry smiled fondly at his former student. He then looked at his watch. “I’ve got to run. I have a drinking session with a friend from Korea.”

Joohyun laughed at this. “Okay. Goodbye~”

January 20^th 2017

“Aiiish, I’m going to be late!” Kyuhyun ranted as he arranged the files in his briefcase. Just then, his phone rang.

“Hyuuung~” Henry cooed from the other end of the line.

*korean*

“You bastard, you kept me up all night! I didn’t know you could bear that much alcohol in your system.”

Henry laughed at this. “I’ve been practicing.”

“Psh. Well, now I have to hurry. It’s a good thing I know exactly where I’m going.” Kyuhyun yelled into the receiver.

“Hahaha! Don’t get lost, now. I remember 7 years ago, you got lost and made a scene.”

“Yeah, I---wait. How in the world did you know that?”

“You told me last night. Just after you ranted about how much you miss Joo----”

“YAH! Keep it down or I’ll---” Kyuhyun stopped when he bumped into someone.

*english*

“I’m terribly sorry.” Kyuhyun apologized as he picked up the music sheets that belonged to the person he bumped into.

*korean*

“You’ve gotten so good at speaking English, oppa.”

Kyuhyun’s heart quickened at the familiarity of the voice.

He looked up and saw her.

“Seohyunnie…”

Joohyun took him in before she smiled and greeted back. “Hi, oppa.”        

“Seohyun…”                                           

Kyuhyun wanted to hug her so badly, but he knew he couldn’t.

“I’ve been hearing about you a lot in the news lately.” Seohyun started.

“Ah, yes… You, too. You’ve been in a lot of concerts, right?”

Seohyun just nodded at this.

Kyuhyun swallowed.

“How’s it going with the violinist? Kris Wu, isn’t that right?”

Joohyun was startled at the sudden question. Then, she smiled when she realized what it was about.

“What, Kris? He’s doing well…”

“I see…” Kyuhyun looked down at his shoes, trying hard not to let Joohyun see his face.

“He and Jessica-unnie are happily dating now.”

Kyuhyun furrowed his eyebrows at Seohyun. “What?”

“Yes. Haven’t you heard? There are even rumors that he’s going to ask her to marry him soon.”

“But I thought---”

“You thought. You never approached me to confirm anything, oppa. Jessica-unnie told me everything just about a month ago. Why didn’t you call?”

“I was scared.” Kyuhyun told her truthfully. Joohyun smiled at his honesty.

“I know… But the question is, do you still love me oppa?” Joohyun asked.

Kyuhyun then pulled her close. “I never stopped, Seohyunnie.” He told her as he kissed the top of her head.

“Neither did I, oppa. No matter how many years passed, I knew it could only be you.”

“Well, it’s good that you found me again.”

“Ani, oppa. We found each other… I guess it’s what you call ‘Serendipity’, right?”

Kyuhyun then laughed at Joohyun’s statement. “What are we now, some kind of scientific discovery?”

“Yah! It doesn’t only apply to Scientific stuff. Go look it up in the dictionary.” Joohyun pouted as she slapped Kyuhyun’s arm.

Kyuhyun chuckled as he hugged Joohyun tighter. “Even if we don’t find the appropriate meaning there, we’ll always have our own definition, won’t we?”

Joohyun smiled against Kyuhyun’s chest. “Yes, we will… oppa.”
