Rainy Nights

Description

A girl and a boy who share a common past.

With it all starting on a simple, raining night.

Foreword

"Do you really want to leave?"

Her voice is barely above a whisper and the rainfall drowns her voice. But despite it, he can hear her words, clear in his ears.

"We won't get anywhere stuck in here," he kicks a rock into a puddle, watching it ripple and be disturbed by the continuing rain. Then suddenly, the downpour lessened, turning into a simple shower, then weak sprinkling, until it finally stopped.

Looking up at the sky, he sighs, watching his breath meet the crisp winter air and disappear. He takes off the damp hoodie, brushing the droplets from his hair and turns to look up at the sky again. Not a single damn star and the moon shyly peeks out of the clouds. It isn't until the clouds pass that the night grows brighter, and he manages a small smile.

"Should we go inside?"

He turns back to the steps on the porch to look at her. The light shiver shows as her knees continue to shake and he smiles. Walking towards her, he takes off his jacket and puts it over her legs. She stares at his short sleeves and shakes her head, "It's like you're asking to get sick." He scoffs, "Yet every single time, you're the one I have to look after."

Opening to retort, instead she sneezes and he shakes his head.

Sighing, he sits down and lets her cling to his arm. Feeling her head rest on his shoulder, he flinches and relaxes as their bodies find their place.

She sighs and the two sit silently.

A gentle breeze brushes their hair and he can feel goosebumps on his skin rise.

"I like this.." she whispers.

He gives a gentle nod, and they sit there together silently, neither ready for the coming days.
