It’s a restless night

I turn over in bed

Kazuya lay awake at the hour of 3am and he turns over and feels the space next to him which should have Jin’s body lying there, with his arm firmly wrapped around him. But there is no Jin. Jin hasn’t been near him in a long time. He has been running marathons through Kazuya’s head though.

They were the perfect couple but they were forced apart and so they now lead separate lives despite their failed attempts to stalk the other. They just want to see each other. Kazuya still wants to be with Jin. He still loves Jin but he doesn’t know if the other feels the same.

“I love you Jin. Do you still love me?”

For a moment I was dreaming
What I hear is probably the sound of rain

Jin sits up in bed and runs his fingers through his silky brown locks in frustration. Ever since Kazuya left his side he has been suffering of chronic insomnia. He sighs and looks out his window. It sounds like it is raining but he can’t seem to see the rain. In the back of his mind he hears a familiar voice whisper, “I love you Jin. Do you still love me?”

He looks around frantically and gets off his bed and searches his house yelling out for his Kazuya. He lets himself slump down on the cold tiles of the kitchen floor, supporting himself against the marble counter.

“I must have been dreaming…Kazuya...Come back to me…"

Am I just chasing a dream that won’t come true as it is?
Well, that won’t solve anything.

Kazuya decides to call his friend, as well as Jin’s, Yamapi. It’s probably the only way to get a hold of Jin.

“Kame, have you heard from Jin lately?” Yamapi asks him. Kazuya sighs and responds shakily, “I-I wish I could. We’ve already been torn apart. Our parents got what they wanted. I’ve tried b-but I-I failed. I failed, Pi.”

Yamapi can hear the sobs that Kazuya is trying to muffle. He hangs up and immediately drives to his friend’s house. He feels the pain that Kazuya is trying to rid himself of. Kazuya has to take over the family business. He has been forced from his love all because his parents want him to marry a decent girl and settle down. He’s only 22 but he has to make these decisions so fast. Jin on the other hand, hasn’t agreed to what his parents want and they have him on lockdown in his own home except for when he has to go to university. He can’t find Kazuya anyway.

Yamapi is stuck in the middle of all this because they both have asked him for help. He just wants his best friends to be happy with each other for the rest of their lives. Is that so much to ask? There is one solution and maybe, just maybe, it would work.

He lets Kazuya cry on his lap. He doesn't mind going home with clothing wet from tears. When Kazuya finally falls asleep from exhaustion, Yamapi tucks him in and writes a note to call him when he is free. He has a plan in the works and he needs their cooperation.

If I want something to happen between us
I need to leave here right now

Jin attempts to escape from his bedroom. His parents have cursed him out and locked him in his bedroom for yelling out Kazuya’s name. He still remembers how his hair smells, how soft his lips are against his own. He just wants to get away. He needs to do this for himself, to obtain happiness.

He looks out his window which cannot open even a crack. He can’t break it because they will hear. Besides, he has already tried that and it didn’t end well as he’s still here. He thinks his will isn’t strong enough and he tries every day. He has tried so hard up to the point that he has been bound and put in a straitjacket. Jin needs to leave. He’s going to leave. He just doesn’t know.

Without an umbrella and go to you

Kazuya wakes up because of his alarm which Jin had made for him. A tear rolls down his cheek remembering the last time he saw Jin. He hasn’t seen him in so long. He wonders if he looks different, if he smells the same, if he has moved on. He hurries to his university in the pouring rain, without an umbrella. Jin always had to remind him to take it. He’s going to find Jin someday. When that day comes, he’s never going to let him go.

The glaring sun hides somewhere in this sky
Searching for the heart that won’t burn

Months pass and Jin sits through his classes with the same expression, bored and uncaring. Today it’s cloudy. He used to love days like this. Days when he and Kazuya would cuddle together saying that it’s only for warmth. Now he doesn’t even notice. Today is the day he notices.

He lies on the sea of grass and he stares up at the grey sky, searching for the sun. He wonders if things will change for him. His eyes no longer have that shine, his heart is frozen yet it burns as if he is rotting in hell for eternity.

Yamapi calls him and he tells him that he has talked to Kazuya. He has tried to call his phone but Kazuya has changed his number several times and somehow their parents just know if the other calls. It’s not his fault, Yamapi says.

“He still loves you, you know. Don’t give in. I’m here for you guys.”

Jin asks how his love is doing. Yamapi just simply chuckles and says, “Soon to be better. I’m going to get you away from that place.”

On the ground we take it step by step
While waiting for the day of fire

Kazuya walks to his soon-to-be workplace, slowly but surely with heavy steps. He doesn’t care what day it is or what the time is. He stares up at the building. He wonders if Jin would care if he jumped from the roof. He’s not going to jump however. It makes no sense to him, committing suicide and ending up in hell; he’s already there.

Yamapi sits in a tree nearby watching as his friend walks with no life in his step. He thinks deeply for a moment then he decides to tell Jin to start saving his money. Jin asks ‘Pi, why should I?’ Yamapi pats his shoulder, “You’re going to buy a plan ticket, mi amigo. As for escaping, do you remember the hidden place where we used to play when we were young?”

Ah…the rain hasn’t ended
Tears of the Sun

Kazuya curls up on his bed with his comforter over him as he thinks about Yamapi’s words as he burst through his door. Surprisingly his parents let him in.

“Kazu-chan!!!”

“Hi, Pi. What’s up?”

Yamapi’s grin widens as he whispers into Kazuya’s ear, “You are going to buy a plane ticket.”

“A plane ticket? Are you crazy?” he whispers in panic and awe as well as other emotions.

“Of course I am. I have a plan you see. I’ve convinced Jin to buy one as well and you are going to go meet him when the time is right.”

Kazuya flops down on his bed and speaks in a barely audible voice, “H-He doesn’t love me. He’s probably moved on, Pi.”

Yamapi pokes his cheek, “You baka!!” then in a quieter voice, “He still loves you. I know he does.”

Kazuya looks away and sniffs, “If he loves me then the rain will begin to fall. He turned to yell at the sky, “Cry for me, sun! Prove it!”

He turns his back, “It’s not raining, Pi.”

Suddenly he feels sudden dampness on his face. ‘Water? Rain? It’s raining?!’

He runs to his open window. It’s raining heavily and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to stop. His phone rings, “Told you so.”

The clocks hands look like they’ll stop
I’m watching you with eyes half asleep

Today Jin takes the subway to clear his thoughts. He thinks about buying the ticket. His parents think he’s at school working on an essay which he had finished weeks ago. He watches with eyes half open as he’s drifting to dreamland. The doors open and he could have sworn that he saw his Kazuya. His whole world went on pause right then and there with total silence. His heart skips a beat. He feels his chest through his t-shirt and it seems like his heart has stopped. It must have been a mirage of some sort because he’s not there anymore.

What I hear is probably the sound of rain

Kazuya frowns, “Was that really Jin? What was I thinking yelling out Jin’s name to a total stranger? I’m such a baka! He must have thought I was odd the way he was staring at me. But why was he smiling?”

Jin packs his things in the middle of the night and Yamapi enters the house through an old hidden hole in the wall of the house which they hadn’t bothered to fix, comes up through the basement of the house and makes his way to Jin’s room and helps him with his luggage. Jin and Yamapi leave the house with childish smiles filled with glee. Jin almost cheers but Yamapi covers his mouth just in time. They hail a taxi and make their way to the airport and catch their flight to California and Jin feels completely ecstatic.

Am I just going to wait here forever?
Well that won’t change anything
I've got to be who I am

Kazuya holds his ticket in his hands, “Should I go?”

He climbs out his window after lowering his luggage to the ground silently. He looks at the ticket in his hands and he looks back at the house one last time, “Sorry but I have to be me and this is who I am. You couldn’t except that so face the consequences.” He walks away with a newly found spring in his step, taking in the night air.

And leave this city right now
I’ll throw away my umbrella and go to you

Kazuya runs to Jin’s apartment as his taxi took his luggage to the place at once. Kazuya ran like the wind, faster than the taxi by far. He didn’t care if it was raining. He needed to see Jin. Jin hears his doorbell ring and he rushes to answer the door. He flings the door open and reveals a soaking wet Kazuya.

“J-Jin.”

Jin begins to cry out of cheer happiness and he immediately takes Kazuya into his arms. “I thought I’d never see you again. I’ve missed you so much.”

Kazuya smiles genuinely for the first time in a long time as he hugs Jin tightly and inhales his scent. It hasn’t changed. Jin drags Kazuya to take a hot shower while he prepares him a hot beverage. As they sit on the couch, Jin gives him a sweet passionate kiss which was long overdue. “Promise you’ll never leave me.” “I promise. They can’t tear us apart anymore.”

The glaring sun sees us all in this world
We wait eagerly for its command to burn
On the ground we act like we don’t notice

Kazuya, Jin and Yamapi sit in the park one afternoon talking about the lives the couple left behind. “I wonder how your parents will react when they find out you emptied out all the money that was saved for you. Must be pretty pissed.”

Jin and Kazuya laugh and the latter looks up at the sky, “You know Jin, we should really thank the sun. We wouldn’t be like this without it.”

Jin snuggles up to his lover, “Of course Kazu, when it commands me to burn, I shall. As for now, let’s enjoy our days."

Kazuya giggles at his lover’s serious face and his surprisingly mature words. Jin initiates a chaste kiss filled with love, leaving Yamapi as the third wheel. He turns around when someone pokes his shoulder and his eyes meet with a stranger’s kind brown eyes. “Hi, I’ve been watching you from over there and I feel some kind of feeling towards you. I was wondering if you feel it too.”

Yamapi’s eyes widen at his the feeling he’s having in his chest. The stranger smiles, “You must be feeling it too right? I’m Ryo. Nishikido Ryo.”

Yamapi flushes slightly and shakes Ryo’s hand, “Yamaa Tomohisa. But call me Yamapi.”

We tried to hide our desire
Ah…the rain keeps falling
Tears of the Sun

One year later

“ Jin!!! S-Stop tickling me!” Kazuya laughed. Jin smiled mischievously, “So should we do something else Kazu?”

“Hey! No ing it up in the middle of the park.” Shouted Yamapi.

“Yeah! Do it behind a tree like we did!” shouted Ryo. Yamapi put his hand over his lover’s mouth, “H-Hahaha W-we didn’t do that.”

Jin pulled Kazuya into a hug, “I’m so glad you’re mine.”

Kazuya kissed Jin tenderly on the lips and a drop of water fell on his cheek. They both looked up as it began to fall. Kazuya whispered to Yamapi, “I’ve always wanted to dance in the rain.”

Yamapi whispered back, “Aww Kame-chan! I’ve always wanted to make love in the rain but everyone would see us.”

Ryo pulled Yamapi away and Jin bowed to Kazuya then he extended his hand, “May I have this dance?” Kazuya and Jin danced in the rain. They didn’t care about getting sick. At least they could have this moment.

Meanwhile, Ryo’s lips were on Yamapi’s collarbone as Yamapi arched his back gracefully against their tree. “R-Ryo…”

“Shh..Pi..I’m fulfilling your dream.”
