Felicity, Flaw and Folly
Description
DaeHan High, famous for it’s great diversity, owns a huge campus situated at the heart of Seoul. Steadily climbing up the ranking lists year after year, the school is known for its exclusivity and small intake. Applicants, behind the veil of being interested in the education, look forward more to meeting the High School’s heartthrobs. Five boys, close as brothers, in their senior year. Many have mistaken them for a bunch of hunks with a hoard of girls running after them from class to class. It’s not really the case. Here in DaeHan, you may envy, indulge in a little crush, think about them all day, insert anonymous notes in their lockers, leave lunchboxes at their desks, but you don’t ever get too close.
…you just can’t afford to give them a bad impression.
Foreword
DaeHan High, the leading high school of Korea, has produced nothing less than successful individuals who each made names for themselves. More like a prep school for privileged kids to getting everything they want in the future, DaeHan's small cohort intake facilitates community life, reinforcing the Great DaeHan network. DaeHan High requires every student to live on campus, and therefore have constructed a variety of campus accommodation ranging from high-rise hostels to greek houses. And like the american greek life, there is bound to be a house celebrated over all others. This house, the biggest throughout the campus, has the unit number '501', and is home to the five high school heart throbs.
501.
One, Kim Hyun Joong.
Son of two doctors who own a hospital, he’s a hard one to start with. I must say the way he evades a girl whenever she tries to accidentally bump into him proves to be quite witty. Thing is, he knows that you’re on his heels even if he often pretends to be in a blur. Putting him into words, he’s someone who listens to the rain, someone whom you can find in the cafeteria composing music over a cup of cappuccino, someone whom, I heard, if he likes you, will give everything he’s got. He’s the type you call man, but with a softer and more charming touch.
Music. It’s not just a little tune you hum whenever you’re inspired to. It’s something you do when you’re bored, lost, empty and tired. Nothing romanticised, nothing fancy, but it’s something that neatly fills the holes in your life. It’s something I want to give to you.
Two, Heo Young Saeng.
His mother is the minister of foreign affairs. His dad committed his whole life to humanitarian work, but passed on a few years ago on one of his trips. Extremely appealing (and you’ll know why soon enough), meticulous, and will remember every little detail of you if he’s interested. That’s why he’s top student in art. Go check out the walkways and you’ll spot some of the things he did. Oh and, just in case he finds you cute, stand your ground and try not to hyperventilate when he smiles at you with his dimples .
Don’t move. I need it to be precise; capture you just as you are. Things don’t stay in my head for long, not even memories of people who have passed on. That’s why I need to seize them down on canvas.
Next up, Kim Kyu Jong.
Another one from a single-parent home. I don’t have to explain his background, surely you’ve seen his father on the papers—the pages with all those billionaires—being the big business magnate that he is. It’s a wonder though, he doesn’t have the wide grin that his father owns. Or maybe he does, nobody knows. Soft-spoken, the dark deep gaze he stares at you with, I’ll tell you it’ll make your day. This boy reads a lot, writes a lot and really loves to daydream. Do the accidental bump on him and he’ll put you back on your feet, make sure you’re fine before moving on. But really, that’s about as far as you’ll get.
I saw you, that day there. You appeared in my head. Two whole seconds, I remember. Then you disappeared, stole away from me like everyone else.
Following that, Park Jung Min.
Son to a Judge (yes you heard that right), he’s everything that glisten. School Charm King year after year, he doesn’t even need to try. Run into his path and he’ll gladly take you if you’re pretty and if you suit him well on the dance floor. Here’s the best part. He knows he’s charming and even takes pride in that. You may think he’s too gaudy for your liking, but that’s because you haven’t seen him yet. That mega, giga-watt smile he’ll flash at you will make you jelly, and you can’t blame him. You won’t even blame him if the only girl he’ll ever truly love is his sister. He is, after all, the great Park Jung Min.
You like me. Says it right there in your eyes. Don’t look away. I caught you in the crowd, those brown irises sparkled when I danced. You can’t bear to take them off me. Two steps to tell you I accept your love, one more because I love you too.
Finishing off, Kim Hyung Jun.
Fish him and you’ll never have to worry about your meals. Heir to a chain of fine dining restaurants, he gets a little picky with the cafeteria food. That’s why you should never drop him a homemade lunchbox. Besides that, you’ll love the way he brings you out on a date. The common saying is that he rarely gets mad, and he’s real good at putting sunshine into your life. Don’t take that for everything though, theatre kids have their masks on all the time.
It’s all about projection, space, emotions and things you might not have but you pretend you do. People call it theatre. To me, it’s optimism. The spotlights tell me I can do everything so long as I convince the world I could. You? You believe I was boundless without me proving my worth.
