Monthsary

Monthsary

Jinhwan closed his eyes.

Hanbin let out an irritated sigh.

They were fighting again. This time, it’s a lot worse. The usual monotone statements and controlled voices turned into angry screams, heart piercing curses and ugly sobs. Jinhwan leaned his head on the car’s window as he watched quite a number of couples, acting all lovey-dovey, like how they used to be.

“Just,” Hanbin paused and repeatedly let out a tired sigh before he continued, “stop acting immature, hyung.” At this, Jinhwan scoffed, openly showing his annoyance.

“Immature? Really, Hanbin…I’m being immature now?” The smaller guy forced out a bitter laugh and resumed on speaking, “No, Hanbin! You’re the immature brat here!” He shouted before holding on to his seat belt as if his life depended on it - well not like it doesn’t - as his boyfriend suddenly swerved to the right side of the road. “What the hell is your problem, Hanbin? You gave me a heart attack!”

“You!” Hanbin shouted, at which he got a shocked look in return. “You’re my problem, hyung! For a second, can you please stop ing complaining? You…You always complain, and it’s just so ing annoying!”

“So, all this time,” Jinhwan paused and breathed loudly, trying to stop the tears from falling and continued, “all I do is annoy you?” Hanbin was too angry to hear how his boyfriend’s voice cracked at the end. “Yes…it’s just…gotten on my nerve and even past my bones and it’s just,” he paused and looked at Jinhwan, before whispering, “it’s just so tiring…”

“Okay.”

“O…kay?” Hanbin flinched from the cold tone. “I understand. I mean, I’m pretty annoying,” he forced a laugh and looked up to stop his tears from falling although they already did, “Hanbin-ah…I think it’s just…we should break up.”

Hanbin’s jaw dropped in disbelief. “What? Break up? Really? This is your solution?” He scoffed. “Fine! Okay! Let’s break up! I don’t need you anyw-” He was cut off when Jinhwan got out of the car, slamming the door shut in the process. “Get back here now!” Hanbin shouted as his head went through the rolled down window. “No! I’m not coming back to you! I hate you!”

Hanbin rolled his eyes and mumbled, “Fine, you wanna be that way? I’ll let you have your way.” He drove off, passing by Jinhwan who coughed from the dust, clutching his small bag on his chest. His tears fell uncontrollably. He was so tired. He felt and seemed like a zombie. He just felt so drained that he can’t even raise his arms to wipe his tears away. “All I ever wanted was his presence…”

“Hanbin? Where are you?”

The said male furrowed his brows in confusion. “Well, it ain’t any extraordinary day so as usual, I’m at the dance studio. Why?” His face distorted even more when he heard the guy sneer loudly from the other line.

“Ain’t no extraordinary day…?” Jinhwan mocked, using the same laidback tone his boyfriend used. “Hanbin, it’s the 10th of November! It’s 10!”

“Uhm..okay, yes it is…so…what?”

“I can’t believe you! Don’t you remember? We agreed on having a date! It’s our seventh month! You’ve been doing this to me since the first month!” Jinhwan ranted on the phone, and Hanbin can’t help but hold it about five inches away from his ears.

“Look, hyung, I have no time for petty dates! Can’t you understand that Mr. Yang has been pressuring me lately?” Hanbin talked back, letting all his pent up frustrations blow up on his boyfriend. “Why can’t you be more understanding? Like Bobby hyu-”

“Don’t you dare compare me to him! I’ve been understanding you since long! You’re the ed up one! You don’t realize how hurt I feel everytime you ditch me for your choreography!” Jinhwan complained, though he kept his voice toned down as he is in a public place.

“Fine, I’ll pick you up.” The supposedly a date turned into a fight as Hanbin dragged the smaller male in the car. “I can’t waste my time on a date! I still have four songs to choreograph! You need to understand that I’m not as free as you think I am!” Hanbin exclaimed once he got to sit on the chair.

“Oh, yeah, that’s right, but you have time to spend some of your time with your dearest Bobby hyung!” Jinhwan said, and Hanbin groaned. “You’ve gone crazy!”

Jinhwan opened the dorm’s room, and tried to calm his heart down as he sees the parked car in front of it. He expected Hanbin to come running to him and apologize for being such a jerk, but the latter didn’t, and the former saw him chatting with Bobby instead, and he scoffed.

He opened his bag and threw its contents on the trash bin, located just outside the door of the dorm. “This is it. We’re really over,” He said to himself firmly, though he failed miserably as his voice broke at the end of the sentence, just like his heart. “I really hate you!”

“Hyung?”

“Oh, Junhoe!” Jinhwan, alarmed, rapidly wiped his tears with the back of his right hand. “Oh, hey! Hey there! Oh, yeah, Hey! Hey there…” Jinhwan probably looked like a fool in front of the younger guy now. “Hey Ju-”

“What’s wrong, Hyung?” Junhoe asked, taking a step forward. “You know you can tell me anything, hyung.” Jinhwan’s tears fell again, and Junhoe didn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around the smaller male to comfort him. “Hey! What happened?”

Junhoe was aware of his already soaked shirt, as the smaller male buried his small face deeper on his chest as ugly sobs wrenched themselves out of his throat. “Hanbin and I,” he sobbed, “we had a serious fight,” he paused again and looked at Junhoe with tears in his eyes, making them shine under the moonlight.

“And,” he looked down and Junhoe felt some drops of liquid flowing down the front of his neck, “we broke up…”

“What? Broke up? Isn’t it your seventh month together?” Jinhwan nodded.

“Didn’t you prepare a gift for him? Was it the wrist watch we saw at the mall?” Jinhwan nodded.

“Hyung! That was expensive! I saw you starving yourself for the past month! That was some effort…and you two broke up?!” Jinhwan nodded, crying. “Man, that’s ed up! So where’s the watch?” Jinhwan’s finger flew up and pointed towards the trashbin.

“What the hell, Jinhwan! You can’t just throw a Prada watch!” Junhoe kneeled down and reached through the bin’s hole to get the watch. Once he felt it, he immediately grabbed it. “Hyung, if you won’t give it to him, then just,” he paused and danced to SISTAR’s popular song, “Give It To Me,” and he just looked so cute that way and the smaller can’t help but laugh.

“Now, that’s the hyung I know. Come, let’s go in. You’re probably tired.” He wrapped his right arm on Jinhwan’s shoulder and took him inside. “You’ll be okay, Hyung. I promise.”

“So, what are you planning to do now, Bin?” Bobby asked, after his friend finished telling the break up story. “I…I don’t know, hyung. I really don’t know. I was just so stupid. I was just so stressed and I took it out on him and ugh,” he groaned, “I don’t want to lose him, hyung.”

“Of course, you don’t…but I think you will.” Bobby said, his eyes looking somewhere behind Hanbin. The latter turned to look at where his hyung was telling him to look at, and what he saw made his blood boil. He heard Junhoe’s excited voice asking, “Really, hyung? I can have this?”

“Yep, it suits on you anyway. You should really just be my boyfriend, Junhoe!” Jinhwan joked, all the while not feeling Hanbin’s glare. “Oh my god, Hyung! Are you proposing?”

Jinhwan snorted and looked Junhoe up and down, “Why would you as-”

“No, he isn’t, and he never will. Back off, Junhoe.” Hanbin’s voice startled them both and before they knew it, Jinhwan was dragged away from the youngest among the three. “Let them be, Jun” Bobby said, patting Junhoe on his shoulder. “I hope you’ll be fine, Hyung.”

Meanwhile. Jinhwan was struggling to get out of Hanbin’s iron grip. “Let go,” he whispered, fearing that if he speaks any louder, his broken voice would give away how he feels. “Let go, Hanbin.”

“Is this why you want to break up with me? Because of Junhoe? Why? What does he have that I don’t? Is it because he has time for you, and I don’t? Yes, I don’t! it’s true! But I’m trying! I would have came if it wasn’t for my limited freedom! Do you think I like how I can’t spend my time with you but Junhoe and others can? Do you think I don’t feel hurt when we don’t mee-”

Jinhwan shut Hanbin up with a firm kiss, both of his hands on the latter’s cheeks respectively. They kissed, no tongues involved, because it’s more romantic that way. “You have so many questions. I only have one…”

“What is it?”

“Do you really love me?” Jinhwan asked, his heart beating loudly against his chest. He’s afraid. What if Habin doesn’t? What if- “Yes. I love you so much, I think I’m the most stupid guy to ever hurt you like that. I love you so much, hyung. Please take me back…Please…”

“I’m afraid…I’m so scared. It just doesn’t seem to work out. I am so scared of getting hurt again. I don’t want to walk on the way home…all alone. I just…I’m so scared. It seems easier for us to get back to being just friends. I don’t want to ruin us…I..I…” Jinhwan was crying, and Hanbin can’t help but let some tears slip, too.

Jinhwan was right. They were better off as friends, though it hurt Hanbin to have that label. He’s been a jerk to him, too. He’s unworthy of Jinhwan’s efforts and love. “It’s okay…I understand.” Hanbin turned and was about to walk away when a hand grabbed his,” I don’t want to walk on the way home, all alone, without you beside me…Maybe, we can work this out? We can try, right?”

Hanbin nodded and turned around to hug his lover. “I love you so much, Jinny hyung. I love you so much. Thank you for taking me back, even if I was a jerk. I love you.”

“I love you too, Binnie.”

Junhoe woke up at the middle of the night. Once his sight cleared up, he saw Hanbin in front of him with a furious face. “What? I didn’t do anythi-”

“Where’s the watch?”

“What?”

“Where’s the watch?!”

“There!”

Hanbin walked up to the closet and reached the Prada watch. He wore it and walked up to the younger again. “This, Junhoe! This. Is. Mine! And so is Jinny! So back off!”

Junhoe, dumbfounded, watched Hanbin sway his hips off as he exited his room. “I’m straight hyung!” he shouted and went back to sleep, this time, he dreamt of running after the Prada watch, and failing to catch it.

Jinhwan closed his eyes.

Hanbin let out an irritated sigh.

“Hyung, don’t tease anymore!” Hanbin moaned, and tried ing in Jinhwan’s mouth, but his hips was stopped by firm hands. “nuh-uhh, binnie! Don’t do that or you’re not going to get anything!”

“If I would have known this has been your gift, I would have come to our monthsaries!”

“That’s it! You’re not getting anything!”

“No no no, just kidding! Happy eighth month, hyung! I love you"

“I love you, too! But you’re still not getting anything!” Jinhwan sang, laughing at Hanbin’s desperate face. “I love you so much, Hanbin.”

“Please?”

“Still no.”
