Chapter 2: Confusion

Just say yes

Jongkook's POV

Jongkook was infuriated, jumping with fury even. How could that stupid bastard even think of cheating on someone like Jihyo, especially since they were getting married! He wanted nothing more than to confront him, no, send a flying punch to his face for daring to look at anyone else but his Jihyo. Yes, Jihyo was his, whether or not she was getting married, not to mention when she's planning on marrying a bastard who doesn't appreciate her.

Too blinded by rage, Jongkook didn't even notice the couple’s departure. By the time he realized this, it was much too late. They were nowhere in sight. Aish, he muttered under his breath. He didn't stop for long to mourn the loss opportunity to capture evidence. Instead, he immediately jumped into his car and drove at full speed to Jihyo's house. She needed to know about this.

Oddly, apart from the 101 violent thoughts running through his head, all involving the death and/or torture of a certain bastard, a queer part of him felt smug about this whole event. As much as he knew he shouldn't be, but he couldn't help but envision how Jihyo would break up with Jaesung and call off their marriage. That way, the possessive part of him would not need to be concerned with losing her in the near future. Just the thought of it made him beam with anticipation. He couldn't help it, he wanted, no needed her to be by his side.

Too consumed by his thoughts, the drive to Jihyo's house didn't seem like a particularly long time. He wasted no time in going up to her apartment and letting himself in. She had given him the only spare key to her apartment. Not that they were friends with benefits or anything, which he certainly wouldn't mind, but simply because he was always the only one not drinking at parties and thus it became his responsibility to send the only female member of the cast home. After too many experiences of having to carry the drunken but still beautiful Jihyo while she struggles to find her keys and open the door, which always ends in him bringing her to his house for the night, it was only natural that a spare key was given to him.

"Jihyo ah?" He called out to the seemingly empty house. He took off his shoes and entered the house. He chuckled as he saw things scattered around the house in a random manner. It made the house feel less like a show house and more like a home. It reminded him off the time Jihyo commented how his house looked too neat and picture perfect, as if he rented it just to impress others.

He begin to head to her room, thinking that she was sleeping but heard the shower running when he walked pass her bathroom. She must be showering then, he thought to himself. He went back to the living room and took a seat on the sofa, waiting for her the finish her leisurely shower. He couldn't help but notice the only picture on the side table was of him and her, when they went to Hong Kong for MAMA. He had his arm around her shoulders, her arm circling his waist, and the beautiful city lights were their backdrop. Didn't she have a picture with Jaesung, he wondered, secretly feeling smug about the fact that she had a photo with him on display instead of one with her boyfriend.

Oh right, her bastard of a boyfriend. Thoughts of Jihyo had distracted him from his main agenda. Right then, he heard the bathroom door open and Jihyo walked into the living room, clad in nothing but a skimpy towel.

"Omo Oppa! What are you doing here?!?!" Jihyo, still dripping wet, shrieked in shock, tightly clutching her towel to her chest.

"Jihyo? Mianhae, I..." Jongkook bent down and covered his eyes. He heard quick footsteps and assumed that Jihyo had left to her room to retrieve her clothing. He had covered his eyes as soon as he comprehended what he was looking at but it was still enough for him to catch a glimpse of her. The short towel that revealed her mile long legs and the v neck displayed the smooth creamy skin wet from its recent shower.

There had always been tangible electricity that existed between the two of them and situations like this do not help that tension between them. Jongkook tried his best to stop his mind from having any inappropriate thoughts, but his mind seemed to have a mind of its own. Warmth courses through his veins and he could feel himself flush red. He mentally reprimanded himself for acting immature; he wasn't young anymore so he shouldn't be acting like a schoolboy who just had his first love. Pull yourself together Kim Jongkook!

"Oppa you can open your eyes now." Jihyo voice floated into his ears, tinted with embarrassment. He gingerly opened his eyes, unable to make eye contact as he couldn't stop thinking about what he just saw. An awkward tension filled the air, both of them aware of the pregnant silence hanging in the room.

"So... um... Why are you here Oppa?" Jihyo asked to break the tension.

It all came rushing back to him, the reason he was here in the first place. In the midst of everything, he had conveniently forgotten his purpose. Anger began boiling inside of him again.

"Jihyo, I saw Jaesung with another girl this afternoon. They were holding hands and even kissing! I was going to confront them and,"

He saw Jihyo's eyes widen in shock and falling slightly open. Oddly, her expression resembled more of someone caught red handed instead of someone who just found out her boyfriend was cheating.

"Oppa, I'm sorry I..." She started to say, but he cut her off before she could finish.

"I was going to confront them but I lost them before I could... Why are you apologizing? It's not your fault, god I swear I'll kill that bastard!"

He saw Jihyo breathe a sigh of relief, which confused him, he had expected anger or sadness but he didn't dwell on that.

"Jihyo ah, you need to call off the wedding. How can you marry a guy that is cheating on you even before you are married!”

"Its fine Oppa, don't think too much about it." Jihyo waved it off in a dismissive tone.

Jongkook frowned, this doesn't sound like Jihyo. She should be jumping mad by now, why is she acting like it doesn't matter?

"But Jihyo, he is cheating on you! Are you just going to let it be?"

"Oppa, I'm not getting younger okay? I spent so much time waiting for someone who is so goddamn blind to my feelings. I can't just call off the wedding. Who's going to marry me then? You?!" Jihyo suddenly raised her voice, frustration seeping through her voice. She was trying to keep her cool but failing.

"...I... Jihyo..." He was at a loss of words, never seeing Jihyo so mad before.

"Sorry Oppa, just forget it okay."Jihyo composed herself and left for her room, leaving Jongkook gaping at her in the living room. Not knowing what had gotten into her, he decided to leave her alone to cool off. She must be too devastated about the news, he tried to convince herself, and she would call off the marriage once she came to her senses.

He got into his car and turned around, heading back to Anyang. It had been a long day, and he found himself extremely confused by the situation. Jihyo's words reverberated in his head, "Who's going to marry me then? You?!" Even though she must have said it in her moment of anger, Jongkook couldn't help but wonder if she really meant it. If she did, if she really meant what she said, the answer was yes. Yes, he would marry her if no one did. He would take responsibility for the rest of her life. And he had been so close to telling her, so close to screaming yes, yes he would marry her!

If, if she called off the wedding, he would muster the courage to confess to her, he promised himself. Only then had he realized how much he needed her. If only she wasn't already getting married.

The ring he bought was in his pocket, had been there since he bought it. He loved her a lot, he realized. More than he thought he did.

Jihyo's POV

Jihyo stalked off to her room, pretending to be annoyed at Jongkook. She heard the door open and clicked close, knowing that he had left. She breathed a sigh of relief and collapsed on her bed, exhausted by the day's events. She thought about her conversations with Jongkook earlier today, noting that he seemed to be against this marriage.

She felt immensely frustrated. How is it possible for someone to be so dense?! Her feelings were basically on full display in front of him and he still couldn't see them. What was she to do if she couldn't make him realized his feelings before the wedding. She knew the person she loved was him, and she had seen the way he looks as her. She might appear blur and 'mong', from which her nickname Mongji stemmed from, but behind that facade, she was more observant than others think.

Oppa is so infuriating sometimes, she thought to herself. Her anger fueled her to do idiotic things. She couldn't believe she actually asked Jongkook if he would marry her. Aish, she really wasn't thinking. What would he think of her now... And saying that she wasted so much time on a person who's blind to her feelings, would he have noticed that she was talking about him? She hoped that this was the one time that his commander instincts failed him. Of course, what she said wasn't entirely true. Time spent waiting for him wasn't wasted time. It was worth it, she convinced herself, and it will be worth it.

By now, the entirety of their running man family has long detected her feelings for him, even the slower ones like Gwangsoo had noticed. It was unbelievable that when it came to her feelings, Jongkook's usual instincts seem to switch off, all her signals misinterpreted. Despite that, Jihyo was convinced that he had feelings for her. She didn't believe that he would let her get married to someone other than him, his competitive spirit and possessiveness will never allow that. Especially now that he thought Jaesung was cheating on her...

But what if he didn't do anything? What if the one time she needed him to be stubborn and insistent, he let things go her way? Jihyo couldn't help but feel insecure, a dozen of 'what if' floating in her head. She could only hope for the best.

That night, neither of them managed to fall asleep. Both were wide awake, tossing and turning in their beds, thinking about her, thinking about him, thinking about them, thinking about we.

Gwangsoo's POV

On my fabulous, extremely rare off day, of which I planned to spend the entire day in bed, I was awoken by a phone call. This wasn't just any phone call, no; this person had decided to call me at 4 in the morning no less.

"Hello?" I answered groggily, still stuck in dreamland.

"Yah Gwangsoo ah, I need your help, can you meet me?" It was Jongkook. This didn't surprise him; they were close and frequently hung out. What surprised him, however, was his hyung actually asking for his help! This was extremely rare, and woke him up immediately.

"Ahh hyung...I'm sleepy, can you just come to my house." He tried to get out of turning up, knowing that he probably wouldn't be of much help anyway.

"Okay, see you" before giving Gwangsoo a chance to reply, he had hung up. There had certainly been many surprises that morning, Gwangsoo thought to himself. Never had he thought that his hyung would agree so easily to come all the way to Namyangju. Too sleepy to think, Gwangsoo fell back to sleep, knowing it would be awhile before Jongkook arrived.

He was awoken by a doorbell. That must be Jongkook hyung, he thought, but a glance at the clock showed 4.30. How could he have arrived so quickly? Regardless, he opened the door to see that it was indeed his hyung standing in front of him.

"Hyung! How did you get here do quickly, did you teleport or something?" Gwangsoo joked, partly because of his curiosity and also because he noticed the terrible mood Jongkook was in.

Jongkook ignored his joke, sitting onto the couch in the living room. Now Gwangsoo was really concerned, his Hyung was never so dejected.

“What’s wrong hyung?” Gwangsoo asked, his eyebrow furrowing at the sight of Jongkook’s unsmiling face. It was as if he had an aura of grey around him, like mist that wouldn’t rise. He was worried for his favorite hyung, not knowing what could have possibly caused him to sink into such a state of depression.

“Jihyo is getting married.”

What?! Gwangsoo exclaimed in his head, how was his noona getting married? She wasn’t even dating.

“What?! To who? She wasn’t even dating anyone…”

“Jaesung remember, she told us she was dating Jaesung.” Jaesung? But wasn’t she just…

“What do I do Gwangsoo ah? You know that I love her a lot. I don’t think I can live without her Gwangsoo; I can’t just let her get married to some other man. And he cheated on her Gwangsoo ah, even before they are even married! And yet she just shrugged it off. I wouldn’t mind if she would be happy, but how can she marry such a cheating bastard?”

“Hyung, I…” Gwangsoo watch as Jongkook spilled out his misery and frustration, caught at a loss upon seeing his Hyung so distraught, so torn apart over Jihyo. He couldn’t bear to see them continue like this, so he decided to come clean, even though he was unclear about why Jihyo was getting married.

“Actually hyung, noona really loves you a lot. If you don’t believe me you can ask all the other running man cast. She told us about her feelings for you and how frustrated she was that you were so dense. Hyung, you love each other. I don’t know why Jihyo noona is getting married but if you love her, tell her. She loves you too.”

This was a sudden realization to Jongkook, giving him hope. She loves me…? But his world came crashing down again in the matter of seconds.

“But she’s getting married… She must have waited too long that she gave up waiting. I lost my chance…I... “Jongkook choked back his words, not wanting to break down in front of his dongsaeng.

“I’ll better be going, thanks Gwangsoo, sorry for disturbing you.”

“No hyung, you need to tell her, you are the one she loves…” Gwangsoo trailed off, but his words fell on deaf ears. He watched as Jongkook headed for the door, his back hunched. A pained expression was the last thing Gwangsoo saw on his face and he could have swore he saw a tear roll down as Jongkook turned away.

Seeing his hyung like that made his heart wrench but before that, he had to clear up some things with his Jihyo noona. He took out his phone and sent her a message,

Gwangsoo: Noona, I thought you and Jaesung Hyung were only fake dating?
