"Why are all of the TV shows black and white, Jessica?"

"Because in a perfect world there is only black and white."

Foreword

"Don't you dare take that tone with me young lady! You are going to sit right here on the dinner table and study this book until you catch up to your classmates!"

Mother infuriated Jessica after reading her grades aloud to the family after Auntie and Uncle praised her for her latest art piece just as Jessica infuriated Mother and Father with her grades.

"Or what mom? Or what?" Jessica roared. Mother didn't answer because I, nor Jihoon, not even Jessica, has ever resented Mother. "Oh gee mom, I can't believe those two syllables were all I had to say to shut you up."

Father got angry and threw his fork onto his plate. Clank clank clannnk. Those were the most striking sounds in this house at the moment. "Now you dare use that language in my house? Have we raised you wrong you crude child?"

"Shut the hell up dad. You haven't been home enough to join in on this. And besides, mom doesn't need a bodyguard with that mouth of hers. You know that. You and I both know that very well," Jessica challenged. She turned to mother, in which mother was about to hit Jessica. But Jessica was abused too many times and was too angry. She held mother's wrist tightly and used her force to push mother a meter away from her. "Why bother mom?" When mother didn't answer, Jessica was provoked. That silence from mother was rare, for she had words that was as sharp as a lion's teeth and had a mouth that spewed out continuous comebacks. Tables were turned and Jessica became the alpha of the room as Auntie and Uncle cleared their throats, whispered a farewell for the night and left the dwelling quickly. "Too perplexed to answer? What are you scared of?"

She's scared of her sixteen year old daughter who was a freshman in college and majored in art. She's scared of her oldest daughter who was always the rebellious one of the three, who never received happy white lies from teachers, who was always referred to as "the black sheep" of the siblings, who was always protective and spoke for her siblings--who was always quiet throughout her years under the Jung household. Physically, she's scared of her black sheep preparing to retaliate and express her bottled up emotions with her athletic strength. For once, mother was scared.

Mother walked up to Jessica with a burning gaze and grabbed her hair with a tight grasp, ready to pull it out. Compared to Jessica, Mother was a fake twig that was painted with flowers. Jessica was athletically slim, the body anybody would want and with hair that travels perfectly around her waist.

Jessica wrestled her way through Mother's grip. She dug her nails into Mother's skin and pushed her. Mother almost fell until Father caught her. "Now you listen to me, act that way one more time and you will be out! Out of this house!"

"Fine by me. I already work for my art supplies, what more do I need to work for my well being?" Jessica optimistically exited the living room.

Mother fixed her hair and attire, then turned her contempt gaze to me. "You, you adopted child, you better not be like her."
