​christine chen soojin was born in new york, america, on february 23rd, 1996. her mother was and currently is a laywer while her father was an international businessman. christine grew up around strict rules, as her parents wanted the best for her. she had after school classes on singing, piano, mathematics, english, korean, and many others. she was and still is close with her older brother, jonathan, and dearly loves her younger sister, maddie. when christine was 14, her family and she moved from new york to seoul, korea, due to her brother's choice of university and because of their father's work. she adapted to the korea society quickly and was used to the food, streets, and everything. christine was influence by korean pop as her ex-best friend/classmate in korea introduced and explained kpop to her. christine really looked up to strong yet independent idols like ailee and boa, and wanted to be like them. one day, as her friend told her that there was an audition for star entertainment, christine talked about the matter with her parents, and they strongly disagreed with it, as they believed that it was a stupid career to go on. however, with days of conviencing and help from her older brother, christine's parents allowed her to join the audition.

christine decided to audition for star ent when her friend dragged her along to the auditions. as singing was one of her favourite things to do, she impressed the judges, which then was promised for a place in call backs. she eventually fell out with her friend which brought her to the auditions, as the friend did not get called back. among call backs, she continued to impress the judges and was congratulated and was accepted into the company as a trainee. during her trainee years, it was tough for her. singing may have been her best thing she was good at, however she failed immensely when it came to dancing. she spent most of her time by herself staying behind at the dance studio practicing as the rest of the people who trained with her were resting at home.
