I huffed, stumbling my way into the room.

"Late." The teacher spoke, clearly unamused.

I bit my lip and glanced at all the people staring at me.

One of them, I couldn't stop staring at.

A true beauty. A diamond in the rough-

"Well, aren't you going to take a seat?" The teacher asked, irritatedly.

I swallowed my saliva and blinked my thoughts away. As my eyes drifted around the room, there weren't any seats left.

Except for the one next to- Holy crap.

Fate really wants me to die today, huh?

"O-kay." I spoke awkwardly and made my way to the seat.

I smiled at her but she just looked away. Feisty. I'm already interested in this girl.

The whole class, my mind kept drifting away. I wanted to stare at her, but I had already given too much of a bad impression. 

RING!

Finally.

I stood up and swung my backpack over my shoulder. As I turned around to walk out of the door, I felt like I still had something to do, so I stopped.

"Um," someone cleared their throat behind me.

I turned around and suddenly I was face to face with her.

"Excuse me.." She silently spoke. Her voice was... so strangely beautiful.

"S-Sorry." I managed to let out. She walked past me, and her scent surrounded me. 

A scent I will never be able to forget.

"W-Wendy!" Seulgi and Joy stared at me in horror.

I blinked and stared at my food. Oh, great. I just mixed soy sauce in salad.

I heaved a sigh and literally facepalmed myself.

"What's up with you today? You're so.. out of it."

"I'm fine. I just need more sleep."

"No, that's not the case. She likes someone, duh~" Joy teased.

I glared at her, "Park Sooyoung,"

"I-I'm just kidding!" She quickly retorted.

Suddenly a certain girl entered the cafeteria. 

Her hair collided with the wind, like she was in a photoshoot. Once again, my eyes didn't leave her once. The way she carried herself was beyond graceful. It was beyond elegant. It was effortless.

"Wow, what?" Seulgi raised an eyebrow.

Oops. It suddenly occured to me that I was mumbling incoherent words.

"Nothing. I just saw... a butterfly."

"Yeah, so apparently a butterfly is a 'she' now? Are you an expert at differentiating genders of butterflies now, or something?" Joy laughed.

How does this 18 year old keep making me feel stupid?

"Shut up, Joy."

"So who's she?"

"A girl."

"No duh, but really who is it?"

"Joy don't force her to say it. Let's just say that Wendy likes that nerd." Seulgi pointed to Lee Jin. The least attractive nerd that doesn't talk to anyone.

My jaw dropped, "No, I do not like him!"

"Well we're going to assume that until you tell us who she is."

"Ugh, okay fine! Her name's Irene. She's in my History class."

"Aww! Our Wendy finally has a crush!"

"Shut up."

"Where is she?"

"Over.. there- wait, she's.. sitting alone?" 

Irene sat alone in the midst of other people. She looked lonely. I want to sit with her but I'm afraid she'll be creeped out.

"Well? Aren't you going to sit with her?"

"I can't." I pouted.

"Why not?"

"She's.. so hard to reach. I'm afraid she'll judge me."

"Why would she? It's not like she's better than you in any way."

"I think she is.."

After school, I saw her smiling with other people. My heart beat faster. Her smile was so beautiful. 

"Wendy, just go talk to her."

"It's not that easy, Seulgi.. She's so smart and beautiful. I can't just go up to her and-"

"Yes, you can. Just try. Say hi. Invite her for lunch tomorrow."

"Alright.."

I slowly walked towards her once all the people dispersed away. It was just the two of us.

"Hi, Irene."

"Oh, hi." She smiled lightly with no teeth showing.

"I saw you in history class." I randomly blurted out. I thought it would be too weird to ask her immediately for lunch.

"Yeah." She nodded. Great, I'm boring her to death.

"Do you want to eat lunch with us tomorrow?"

I waited for her response. Her eyes slightly got larger but she nodded calmly.

"Sure." She smiled.

She seems shy. It's cute.

"Great. I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yeah, see you tomorrow." She smiled.

I smiled back and walked away, trying to hold in my feelings.

That's right. Taking baby steps.
