Cha's Chicken

Description

A humble chicken take-away bar is overrun with customers on a hot summer day, centre Seoul. Old Cha, an aging, hopeful retiree remains the head of this bustling business where the lives of 8 enthusiastic, driven and incredibly introverted teenagers and young adults work.

And this, well… I guess this is just the everyday, nothing more; nothing less. Welcome, take a seat, enjoy N’s chicken special of the day: microwaved-fried chicken wings (it’s a Tuesday) and the amazing service of Hyuk and Aimee - the awkward and socially off servers who may, possibly and most definitely make your experience at Cha’s Chicken completely and inexpertly mind-numbingly tame.

Foreword

The heavy, florescent lights of Cha’s Chicken began to flicker in the fading sunset light. “.” Cha uttered. “Leo! The ing lights are ing stopping again!” he shouted, sharp hands motions coupled with silent ‘ my life’s filled the serene, dusky twilight air as Leo came outside to see who or what Old Cha was cursing now - ‘’ being his utmost beloved of all words.

Cha’s Chicken was closing for the day and the employees were only just getting started. Though ‘home-time’ was an hour passed, Leo seemed the only one even slightly unfulfilled at the prospect of more over-time - he didn’t quite seem to share in the sheer enjoyment of simply being in the best place in the world - a concept none of the other workers could ever begin to dream to understand.

Ravi grabbed a fistful of his hair and yanked, veins bulging in his neck as his thoughts swam to the beat of an invisible drum - invisible, tutting heads swirling around his own singing: ‘why me?’ in the most deplorable voices known to man. Heads in the back of the shop turned at the familiar sound of the slamming of the broom cupboard - all with bated breath; waiting… simply awaiting what they all knew was coming.

And at the unilaterally, mentally predicted moment, Ravi stormed through the back doors grabbed a cleaning spray with the force of a thousand Greek warriors and marched back to the dining arena - ready and willing (oh, so willing) to bring that crumb down to its knees…
