The City of Love

Eunjae stepped out the front doors of the hotel as she sniffed the scent of Paris' air. She observed her surroundings. She felt foreign. She sighed as she hug her arms. The cold winter wind had crawled up her skin. It was just 8:30 in the morning and she wanted to eat. She looked around and finally spotted the nearest French bakery and walked to it.

'CAFE FRANCE'

She read the big sign. She had no trouble reading english since it was one of her major subjects.

"Are you stupid?? How could you even think of going there without knowing they're english??" Eunjae's mother had a firm grip on the girl's arm.

"Mom it was you who had forced me to learn every language involving your freaking business crap." She tried to answer in a calm way although her insides were screaming otherwise.

"Watch your words young lady." Her father glared at her with eyes having intensity just as much as Eunjae had in hers. Eunjae had to prevent the words that would come out knowing it wouldn't be good.

Eunjae forced a smile at the woman on the register as she pushed those unwanted memories away. She ordered and found a seat, instantly drifting off to her thoughts as she sat.

Eunjae had come alone in Paris. She doesnot need anyone considering that she had been thinking of coming to Paris ever since she was young. The only ones that had been holding her back from travelling around the world was her very own parents. Her parents had disregarded her own dreams as they forced her, together with her brothers, Jongin and Jongdae, to be learning everything about their business. Their parents had their future planned but Eunjae's got broken. And Eunjae was actually happy about it. To be out of her the trap, the hell, her parents set out for her.

The waiter had approached Eunjae's table with a smile. "One hot choco chip cup and two red velvets. Is there anything else?" Eunjae couldn't help but smile at the enthusiasm. A real smile this time.

"Nope. Everything's set. Thankyou." She spat back in pure english. She had to somehow thank her parents for forcing her to learn other languages.

'It actually came in handy mom and dad.' She chuckled and ate her breakfast.

When she was done, she left a tip on the table and skipped out the shop happily.

"Now where to...?" She debated to herself and ended up going to the mini mall.

For hours, she strolled around the mall, buying little things here and there.

She entered a shop selling antiques. Her eyes landed on a heart shaped locket and reached out to grab it.

But suddenly, her hand brushed another hand. She had grab a hold of the heart pendant while the other hand had the chain of the locket. She realized the awkward situaition and looked up. She met eyes with a pretty blonde girl.

"I'm sorry. Here you can have it instead." The blonde smiled at her as she let go of the chain.

"No no no, its yours." Eunjae felt guilty so she handed it to her.

"It's fine. I can find something else. You're not from here are you?" The blonde eyed her from head-to-toe. Eunjae's pale cheeks had turned pink.

"No actually. I came from Korea."

Eunjae's eyes widened as the blonde pinch her cheeks.

"You're adorably blushing! The names Tricia. You?" Tricia reached out a hand and gladly, Eunjae shook it.

"Eunjae."

"Don't you have an english name?"

"Ummm nope." Eunjae rubbed the back of her neck shyly.

"Oh! I know! I'll call you...Jane!"

"Jane..?"

"Yup! Your english name. Is that okay? We could be friends!"

"Sure." Eunjae smiled, feeling happy.

"So would you tell me why you came here? Vacation? Or live here?" Tricia asked as they ate their pasta. They were having their lunch at 'Pasta House'. The two had been together for a few hours, just strolling around the city, stopping at little shops here and there 'till it was lunch time.

"Vacation, yes. Just to take a break." Eunjae gave Tricia a smile.

"Oh.. for how long?"

"A couple of weeks. 6-7? Not sure."

"Ohh.. Where are you staying? And how old are you?"

Eunjae felt like burning from the curious stares the blonde had given her. Awkward as hell man.

"At the Golden Gates Hotel. 17. You?" Eunjae felt stupid for blurting out such info but heck, she felt like she's known the girl for years.

"Ohmygoodness Are you serious?? Yes! I live close by girl! We could hang out! I mean of course, if you want to but.. so close girl!!"

Tricia's happiness amazed Eunjae. Eunjae couldn't help but chuckle silently. She had proved her parents wrong.

*****

"And how are you gonna think you're gonna survive? You're from Korea for goodness' sake! Nobody's going to befriend you!" Her mother's choice of words outraged her.

"Shut up mom! You don't know me! I could prove you wrong if you just let me!"

"Your a disgra----

*****

Her thoughts were cut Tricia snapped her fingers up her face.

"Are you okay Jane?"

"Huh uhh yeah. Sorry." Eunjae smiled at Tricia sheepishly.

"It's fine silly." Tricia smiled and they both finished their pastas and headed home.

"So tomorrow okay? At Cafe France? 8am?" Tricia smiled at Eunjae.

"Of course. Thankyou for spending time with me."

"No problem. I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yeah."

Eunjae and Tricia hugged as said goodbye. Eunjae watched Tricia's back as she walked home.

Eunjae smiled. She was satisfied.

'See mom and dad? I already made a friend. I proved you wrong.'
