Take your umbrella with you, whether you think it'll rain or not

There's Almost a 100% Chance You’ll Forget Your Umbrella and Hate Yourself For It

The nonstop rain pounded on the apartment windows, gently knocking as if it was asking for an invitation to come in. Taeyeon yawned, opening wide as she stretched her hands out. She leaned back on her chair and crossed her arms behind her head.

"It's raining today, too.." Taeyeon spoke into the room. Jessica, who was originally sitting on the couch until she eventually laid out to dominate the space, turned to the side, curling in her legs due to the cold air. "When rainy days come so often, my heart gets gloomy."

"Rainy day, rainy day, more rainy days..it makes my brain moldy, too." said the bored Jessica.

"Pft, it was already like that." Taeyeon joked spinning her chair around to look out the window. "How many days have we not seen the sun? There are no clients and I don't feel like going out in the rain. There's no money. Ginger stinks and my feet stinks too," Tiffany opened the door into the apartment with freshly done laundry. "And so does Tiffany."

"What do you mean, 'so does Tiffany'? Don't compare me to your feet." Tiffany complained. She looked around in the room, staring at the two lazy workers. "Why are you two being so negative? Cheer up! The rainy season will be over soon." She continued talking while also folding the laundry. "Then you can get as much sunlight as you want."

"..That's why I hate the rainy season. Just hearing the raindrops outside makes me feel down."

"It can't be helped. There's a typhoon coming our way."

"Typhoon.." Taeyeon gazed off into the distance for a while before drooling. "Man, I really want some ramen right now."

Jessica bolted up from her seat at the call of food. "Ramen? No. Let's eat sushi!"

"Screw sushi, I want ramen." Taeyeon countered.

"Ramen my , sushi is the best way to go on rainy days."

"Ramen can beat your any day!"

"Huh? You want to go?!" It wasn't long until the two older girls began arguing with each other. Tiffany sighed and placed down a newly folded t-shirt. She spoke up, tired of hearing their childish quarrel.

"Let's just go to a restaurant that serves both okay?" She stood up brushing her pants down. "My treat, so let's go."

The trio began walking down the busy streets of Seoul. However, due to the rain, it was less crowded than usual. They had just finished eating at a restaurant and were heading back to the office to see if any clients dropped by. They were friends since high school and once they graduated, Jessica and Tiffany set out to pursue their dreams. Though after a year, they quickly realized it wasn't going to be as easy as they thought. Taeyeon on the other hand, wanted to live easy and set up a freelancing business. The two dream pursurers, desperately needed money, decided to join Taeyeon in her business, doing odd jobs here and there.

Their feets splashed into the puddle below, drenching a part of their coats wet. Taeyeon and Jessica were engaged in a light conversation as they walked.

"So rainy and cold.." She mumbled. "Well, it's better than staying in the house all depressed. I guess it's good we go out at times like this." They waited for the signal to tell them they could cross the street. Lights were placed everywhere making the rather gray and gloomy city sparkle. The wind blew and Tiffany clutched her old weared out plastic umbrella. She pulled the hood closer and bowed her head down.

Due to this, she couldn't see she had bumped into someone in front of her. She flicked her umbrella up and faced the stranger to apologize when an umbrella caught her eye.

The stranger bowed as well and resumed walking. But Tiffany couldn't take her eyes off the pink umbrella patched with beautiful designs. After staring at the umbrella for so long, she rocked her head back looking at her's, suddenly feeling inferior.

"That ramen was good though don't you think?" said Taeyeon, walking besides Jessica.

"As much as I like sushi, ramen is the best when it's cold." Jessica replied.

"See? I told yo-" Taeyeon stopped talking as she quickly noticed Tiffany who was walking fast to catch up to them. The duo eventually stopped walking when they noticed Tiffany in a rather strange mood. Tiffany walked quickly with her umbrella tucked away. Her body getting drenched quickly from the rain.

"Hey, what are you doing?" Taeyeon called out to her. Jessica added on, "Tiffany, you'll catch a cold."

Tiffany turned her head, but not enough for the other two to see her face. She shouted back in a somewhat childish voice. "..It's broken."

"Huh?" Taeyeon said scratching her head at the sight.

"My umbrella is broken." She repeated.

The duo looked at each other before focusing back on Tiffany. Before they could say anything else, Tiffany began walking again. "Just leave me alone. Women sometimes want to walk in the rain."

"Hey! Your head is what's broken!" Taeyeon yelled, her voice however, muffled by the sound of raindrops. "Tsk, what's up with her?" She mumbled.

Just as they were about to continue walking, Taeyeon heard a noticeably loud group of girls walking towards them. With the gray background of the building, floor, and sky, their highly colored and expensive umbrellas stood out the most.

Taeyeon stared back at Jessica whom stared back at her. They both nodded and gave a faint smile.

Tiffany was crouching down beside the entrance of the convenience store. She was drenched wet from her childish actions earlier and didn't want to cause trouble in the store. Bored of waiting for Taeyeon and Jessica to come out, she watched mindlessly at the people in the streets. Occasionally another beautiful umbrella would pass by and Tiffany would bow her head, trying to hide her umbrella even more.

The doors slid open and she stood up when she saw it was Taeyeon.

"Did you get the food I asked you?" Tiffany asked. Taeyeon turned and walked towards the younger girl with one of her hands hidden behind her back.

"Get it yourself ya brat." Taeyeon commented. Jessica exited out the store, her hands full of bags. Taeyeon pulled her hidden hand out into view, reaching out to Tiffany. "Here." In Taeyeon's hands was a pink umbrella accompanied with yellow flowers as a design. Tiffany immediately blushed, suddenly embarrassed about her idiotic actions that must have given them the hint.

Tiffany tried to remain cool and denied it. "I-I don't want it. That umbrella is too flashy." She unconciously pouted. Taeyeon smirked and untied the umbrella, opening it and walking into the rain.

"Who said it was for you?" Taeyeon began walking, hiding her victorious smile from Tiffany. "This is for me. Just use that dirty one." Jessica couldn't help but smirk too when she saw how red Tiffany's face was. She joined in the teasing of Tiffany and commented. "Wow, nice umbrella Taeyeon. It looks cool and chic." They both began walking, leaving Tiffany behind by the store.

Tiffany curled her lips in, knowing her friends very well. Her heart felt warm at the sight because they all knew that they bought it for her.

"It's nice right?" Taeyeon teased once more adding a laughter at the end. Tiffany sprinted towards them, complaining like a little kid. "Hey wait! You look weird using it. I can take it if you like." Taeyeon smiled and willingly passed the umbrella over to Tiffany. Both of them smiled at the sight of Tiffany's eyesmile.

Proud of her new umbrella, Tiffany wasted no time in the house no longer. She walked down the streets, raising her umbrella up with a happy expression as she strolled along the busy city. She spun it around, playing with it. To her now, everyone else's umbrellas looked dull compared to hers. She was proud and happy of her pink umbrella.

Day by day, rain after rain, Tiffany continued to go out in the unforgiving weather. She knew she wouldn't have any other time where she could show off her umbrella completely and she convinced herself to use the umbrella to it's maximum. Despite there no being any real goal in her walks, she was just happy to see all eyes on her flashy umbrella.

Back in the office, Jessica and Taeyeon lazed around again with no new clients coming in. Taeyeon pulled the blinds down, looking outside.

"Whenever it's raining, Tiffany goes out." Jessica noticed. "She really is a kid at heart."

Taeyeon sipped on her hot tea, reading the newspaper for any ads that might catch her wallet's attention. "Humph. Kids like rain, storms, typhoons, and all that kind of stuff."

The windows flashed momentarily as a loud roar erupted. "That reminds me, the rain is supposed to get worse today...I wonder if she'll be alright."

Though there was lightning and the typhoon proved to be getting closer, Tiffany continued to go out and enjoy the day with her umbrella. She danced around in the rain with it, even bringing it to the park. Anywhere she could show off her umbrella she would do so because now unlike before, she was proud of it.

The days continued on and so did the rain. Until finally, the typhoon came and hit the city. The winds battled out in the streets as everyone stayed inside and away from the harsh weather.

But not Tiffany. Jessica noticed this and worried about her constantly. Taeyeon however, would only calmly reply saying she would be fine and back with her umbrella like always.

The doors opened and Jessica turned to see who it was, just to reveal it was Tiffany drenched wet.

"Tiffany." Jessica called out. Tiffany shivered for a quick moment before hiding her umbrella behind her back. "W-What?" she replied.

"The weather was really rough so we were worried about you." Tiffany moved towards the bathroom door in an awkward way, hiding the umbrella behind her as much as she could. "You're all drenched. Are you all right?" Before Jessica could get any closer, Tiffany ran into the bathroom and locked it. Jessica simply knocked on the door and called her name. "Just make sure you completely dry yourself off with a towel, okay?" She turned around and left.

Tiffany crouched down with her back against the door. She looked at her umbrella, now torn up and completely broken due to the harsh weather. Her now favorite umbrella was now rugged up and beaten, broken to the point of no use. But Tiffany worked as a freelancer. With skills picked up from odd jobs, she knew what she could do.

She rummaged through their clothes looking for stuff they no longer wore. Though the apartment was their office, it was also their home. Though Tiffany realized she could simply buy another umbrella, this was umbrella was a gift from Taeyeon and Jessica. She wanted to fix it as much as she could, and keep it as long as she can.

She began cutting up old pieces of cloth and sewing them together. Eventually, she was able to patch up her umbrella. Though it was not as beautiful and chic as it was before - now looking rather odd with the unmatching designs placed all over, Tiffany felt more proud as ever of her new umbrella.

The next day, though it rained again, the weather was calmer than before, allowing Tiffany to go out and show off her now upgraded umbrella. Though she had gotten curious and strange looks from everyone, she all responded back to them with a big smile.

She was walking home when two young children caught her eyes. Everyone else in the city were carrying umbrellas or either wearing hoods to protect themselves from the rain. But these two children she saw were none of what she'd seen. The two kids, siblings she assumed, crowded together huddled in an alleyway. Their old worn out clothes could not protect them from Mother Nature, and they shivered whenever a raindrop fell on their heads.

Tiffany looked up at her umbrella but tilted it forward trying to not watch the kids. She made a fist with her hands when she walked past by them, looking straight at the ground when she did. Despite her guilty feelings, she managed to keep walking forward.

But her angelic instincts kicked in and she ended up turning around and walking towards them yet again. She didn't look at the kids in the eye though the kids were staring back at Tiffany curiously. Tiffany simply laid the umbrella on the floor in front of them before running away.

Tiffany walked home getting wet from the rain. She didn't regret what she did. She knew the two children would have better use of her umbrella more than she would have, but her sentimental values kept interferring. She stopped by an alleyway when she noticed an old broken umbrella lying beside the dumpster.

This umbrella only had it's shape remaining. The protection was completely ripped off. Tiffany understood this since it was beside the dumpster. But she couldn't help but feel sorry for the broken and useless umbrella. She picked it up, pulled it open, and walked with it.

Her eyes didn't leave the ground. She could hear murmurs about her all around, and a few laughters directing towards her, some strange looks focused. She was embarrassed too, afterall, it was only the plastic on the umbrella that remained. Nothing was covering her from the rain at all.

She continued walking home feeling gloomy when she heard someone call out to her.

"Young lady. Psst. Young lady." The voice felt familiar and she turned to see two idiots standing beside the convenience store. Two idiots with wide smiles on their face. Two idiots named Taeyeon and Jessica. She stopped and looked at her friends.

Taeyeon called out. "You have such a cool umbrella." She grinned. "Would you mind letting us under it? Because ours broke."

Tiffany knew this was a lie. She saw their perfectly good umbrellas tucked besides their waist. But she played along, calling them over. She raised her broken and useless umbrella up high, letting Jessica and Taeyeon under it.

Despite the odd looks she and her friends garnered from everyone, she responded again with a big fat smile on her face.

"Boy, rainy days make me feel gloomy. That's why I hate it." Taeyeon said bowing her head down. Her clothes had gotten wet along with Jessica. But they didn't complain.

Tiffany responded with her childish soft voice, smiling.

"No, I think rainy days aren't that bad."
