Jin Li kept a rhythmic motion as she slid the pencil across the picture. She was ecstatic at the way the lines
fell in the exact shape of his face. Him. The one she had known since the minute the pair was born and had
loved him for as long as she could think back. The only problem, he didn’t see. Her heart’s captor never saw
the Earth shattering pain upon her face or the woe in what little of herself she had intact. He never noticed how
once her eyes compelled the sun, the brilliant blue they used to be, no, now they were forever a dull grey,
utterly lifeless or how she had stopped eating. He never noticed how she had to plaster a smile on every day
or how she cried herself to sleep every night. He didn’t see her working out to be “good looking”, just to be
noticed or how her skin, though a slight tan, looked so fragile and easily breakable. But he didn’t care.

Because he never noticed she loved him with all her heart, all he saw was another lay.
