"Hello?"

Breathing evident, he lets a few second pass before pressing end.

"Hey."

The voice he hears..
The voice he hasn't heard..
The voice he doesn't want to remember..

is on the other end.

"Hey."

It's quiet, and he's forcing himself to hang up.

"I jus-"

Pulling the phone away from his ear, he hangs up.

And walks away.

--

"Hello?"

No answer.

He takes a deep breath, thankful he doesn't have to deal with anything.

--

"Hel-"

"I miss you. I miss you so much."

He drops his phone.

And walks away.

--

He ignores calls from numbers he doesn't recognize.

He ignores private calls, and sometimes his friends.

--

"What's wrong with you?"

He looks up, seeing her eyes confused and worried.

"Baby," she whispers, resting her head on his shoulder.

He shrugs and continues to watch tv.

--

Opening the door, she's on the floor, on her cell phone.

"Wha-"

"Hey," she smiles, and everything goes away. She gets up, and stands
in front of him.

He invites her in.

--

Her hands against his chest, his finger entangled in her hair. Their
bodies entwined in the middle of a room with pictures of him with a
different girl everywhere.

He didn't care. And she didn't either.

He hasn't felt like this in so long.

And he's never wanted anyone more than this.

He doesn't remember how it got like this.

--

She turns away, walking out the door. His hands grabs her before he's
out of his reach. She looks back, with tears in her eyes.

"I wish he was like you," she whispers.

He holds onto her longer, pulling her closer. "I wish she was like
you."

And she walks out again.

Chapter 1: This was poetry! I could sense physical need overriding their hearts for the briefest moment before reality set in - how he still misses his girl, but the one in front of him will do for now, because she fulfills a purpose - a temporary need. This was great.
