Indefinitely

Indefinitely

Sehun and Jongdae know everything about each other. They know each other’s likes and dislikes, when the other feels angry or upset without them saying so, or when a lie is being told even if just by a simple twitch. They know each other like they know their way home from the two’s favourite bubble tea shop just off the main street that is only three-hundred and ninety steps away from their cozy one bedroom apartment, but most of all they know each others bodies; they’ve mapped out every curve and indent, they’ve kissed and nipped every beauty mark and complimented every imperfection. They know what is loved most, and what makes the other squirm with delight.

Jongdae knows Sehun like he knows why the leaves on the trees in the park change colour and why they must eventually let go and float down to the awaiting earth. Jongdae remembers Sehun’s habits and quirks like he remembers what colour the leaves were when he and Sehun had first met on that mild autumn day three years ago, the day Sehun often brings up to tease the other about his sensitivity to the wind’s cold hands. He often measures his time with his love by the changing of the trees’ colours and the temperature - he knows when the trees’ decorations begin to change into burning reds and calming browns, and when the wind’s chill begins to blow a little more powerful that it’s been another year since the brightest flower has taken it’s bloom in his heart.

Sehun knows Jongdae like he knows how to move his body in delicate movements to the beat of a song. He knows when it’s appropriate to add a break to the dance and when to add a twist, he knows when he needs to pay attention to a certain part and what to change to make it flow gracefully. He likes to tell his family and friends that Jongdae is like a dance to him; he explains how expressive Jongdae can be and how beautifully he moves. Sehun fails to tell them that it’s merely because of how much he loves the other, dance is something he will always love and work hard to keep in his life.

Sehun gives Jongdae everything he has ever wanted even if it means working an extra shift at the old dance studio on the other side of town. He wants nothing more than for Jongdae to be the happiest and most loved man in his life and to Sehun, buying his love a ring was the only way to ensure this. Jongdae tells the younger that he couldn't be happier and that he loves every little thing Sehun does for him, but that he doesn't need to overwork himself in the stuffy little studio just for something silly like a ring. Jongdae promises that their love will be forever; they don't need expensive rings and necklaces to prove it. Jongdae shows the love he has for the younger that can't be expressed by words through his body and sweet kisses placed on Sehun’s every insecurity. The whispers of sweet nothings, promises and “I love you”s are the only thing that can be heard amongst the sounds of love being shared in the tiny world of Sehun and Jongdae.

Not only do the two know everything about each other, but they both love every single detail of the other. Sehun loves Jongdae’s caring personality and ambition to succeed in the music industry. He loves Jongdae’s attachment to the collection of miscellaneous items he has collected from their dates over the past years. He loves Jongdae’s various laughs but he likes his obnoxious laughter best, and he loves the pretty little smile that shyly makes its way onto Jongdae’s face after Sehun has randomly blurts “I love you”. He loves morning after Jongdae - his raspy voice, distressed hair and wide grin always seems to make the morning brighter than the sun streaming though the closed curtains above their shared bed and it never fails to make Sehun fall slightly more in love. Sehun loves how Jongdae can say a simple hello and make Sehun’s heart pinch and swell, and he loves how a small giggle can awaken the butterflies in his ribcage.

Jongdae loves the devoted Sehun who always puts himself aside to take care of Jongdae and his determination to be confident and strong even when things turn sour for the pair. But Jongdae loves the softhearted, real Sehun who on the rare occasions allows his built up confidence to crack and he shows the slightest vulnerability. Jongdae loves being the one to hold and care for the younger. He adores seeing the fight to pull up the corners of thin lips into a shaky smile through the tears that break little pieces of Jongdae’s heart. He loves holding and cuddling Sehun, and doting on him like royalty. Sehun often protests against being treated so gently and argues that he is “a grown man,” and that he doesn't “need someone treating him like a china doll”. But Sehun never rejects the light brushes or whispered compliments and Jongdae never comments. Jongdae loves every giggle and breathless laugh. The endless quirks and little gestures Sehun does that make Jongdae fail to complete a mere sentence. Jongdae loves when Sehun’s age slips into his vocabulary and the blush that fills his cheeks after realization dawns on him. All the little things that make up Sehun has Jongdae losing little bits of his heart to the younger as he adds on another reason to love and protect him.

Every Monday night after they arrive home from work the pair walk hand in hand three hundred and ninety steps to the bubble tea shop near the park by their apartment and order two large Choca teas from the petite shop clerk. They sit on the same bench in the same small booth quietly sipping each others teas still connected by their hands and entwined legs. Every Tuesday night Jongdae waits up for a tired, overworked Sehun to walk through the doors into his awaiting arms and places a kiss on Sehun’s scar with a whisper of how thankful he is. Jongdae leads his exhausted boyfriend into the bathtub and helps scrub all of the day’s dirt off before pulling him into gentle embraces and passionate kisses. Every Wednesday is reserved for Sehun to clean and cook for his special one, and at 6:00pm he has a cup of blueberry tea brewed and impatiently waits for Jongdae to cheerfully bounce through the door. Wednesday nights are quiet, a book in Sehun’s one hand and the other slowly running through sleepy Jongdae’s hair who rests peacefully in Sehun’s lap, occasionally humming bits of songs and mumbling his to-do-list aloud. Thursday nights are when Luhan and Jongin stop by. The couples never have anything planned, some days they head out for some dinner in town or stay in with a couple beers and plenty of video games and movies. The night is filled with laughter and bets on how they can gross out the others most; Jongdae and Sehun are always beaten by the grossly romantic Jongin and his overly excited hubby. Thursdays end with the couple high on happiness and content sighs warming the apartment. Jongdae performs at a tiny coffee shop in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city every Friday night. Sehun is always found in the middle of the cluster of tables and chairs with a smile that chases the nerves right out of Jongdae’s body and replaces it with a sense of belonging and excitement. The gig goes without a hitch every time. The weekend flows by in a blur, they’re blindly lead into countless adventures with different places and new faces. The weekend brings endless laughter and accelerating heart beats, they let reality slip through their entwined fingers without a thought, the Earth’s time is long forgotten and it’s just the two of them running on adrenaline and euphoria. They lose sense of direction leaving only the guidance of the light in other’s smile to lead them back to the tiny apartment.

Sometimes Jongdae has trouble sleeping, the overwhelming worry for his career crashes and defeats his delicate being, leaving a restless boy in its wake. Sehun pulls the fragile boy closer to his chest and places tender kisses and comforting words to each tearful eye, temple, and ear. He lets Jongdae’s head finds its place in Sehun’s collarbones to silently cry. Sehun allows Jongdae cry until he finally finds sleep’s comfort. Sehun kisses every part of the older’s face once, twice, thrice before falling back to sleep himself. Sehun sleepily but quietly tells Jongdae that he will always love him three times more than he had the day before.

Sehun’s inspiration to improve comes from hearing the smile return to Jongdae’s voice after a sleepless night. Sehun looks up to Jongdae for being able to courageously discard his worries so quickly to focus on his development as a musician. Jongdae’s source of strength behind the quick recovery is Sehun, the smiles and kind words of encouragement bring Jongdae to the realization he has everything he needs and there is no need to worry.

Jongdae enjoys everything about each season. He loves the feel of the change in temperature, their different personalities and the adventures each of them bring. Seasons became a completely different experience with the taller in his life; Sehun brought a new feeling of bliss. Jongdae had always loved summer best until he met Sehun. He used to love walking down to the bookshop that had no air conditioning to browse through old leatherback books, dusty from years of abandonment. He loved stopping by the local Starbucks to grab an Iced Green Tea to sip leisurely as he walked to his townhouse, watching with envy as couples with ice cream and matching shirts strolled past him. He loved summer for its endless cheerful atmosphere, for its bright colours and full trees. He loved the heat of the season most - he loved bathing in the sun with Jongin, swimming with his high school friend, Baekhyun, and getting ice cream cones with Luhan. The heat brought outdoor activities, which allowed Jongdae to leave his townhouse as much as he possibly could. It wasn’t that Jongdae didn’t like his rented home per say, the house complex was pleasantly held up with perfect gardens tended by the loving landlady, friendly neighbours and beautiful architecture, it was just the lack of extra body in his large kitchen, the empty spot where a second toothbrush should be held by the sink in his bathroom and the cold, unused right side of the bed. The house was too big for just Jongdae, he wanted someone to invade and fill up the empty parts. When the cold seasons crept in, Jongdae had no other choice but to huddle in his living room with a horribly made tea and three blankets to himself. He had no choice but to wear an extra pair of gloves on both hands just to help keep them warm.

Ever since Sehun took a permanent residence in his heart, Jongdae cannot decide what season he loves best. He doesn’t hate the cold as much because it gives him the excuse to cuddle closer under two shared blankets and to wear only one extra glove on the hand that isn't stuffed into Sehun’s coat pocket. The cold brings a specially made hot chocolate with a gingerbread man and chapped lips pressing against his forehead. The cold brings a rosy-cheeked Sehun and snowball fights at dawn. Sehun gives Jongdae every reason to love the chilly temperatures and bare trees. In the summers Jongdae does all the things he once loved but with a dorky blond by his side playing childish games of catching ladybugs and ‘spot the cloud that looks most like a unicorn’. Instead of envious stares ahead at the couples passing on the sidewalk, Jongdae is always glancing up at a smiley Sehun with looks of fondness. He doesn't mind being in his townhouse as much, he particularly enjoys it but only if Sehun is keeping the right side of the bed warm and filling Jongdae’s ears with laughter.

The year the two met was cold and rainy. The city had never experienced so much rain and the temperatures threatening to drop below zero caused for countless disasters on roads and in homes. Sehun’s expensive one room apartment had lost power and he had no food, his post brake-up laziness brought him to take a short cut through the local park wearing only a thin jacket and dirty sweats to the fast food joint in search of something to quiet down his stomach. He had not expected to see someone standing out in the cold, singing for loose change. Out of curiosity, Sehun approached the musician and threw in the change he’d been holding from dinner. The musician gave him a small smile and continued on singing to a familiar tune.

“Her voice is powerful and her commitment is truly admiring.” Sehun was startled to find someone new standing beside him, listening to the lady transition into a modern love song. Sehun couldn’t help but stare; the stranger was strikingly handsome with sharp features and a short body. Sehun introduced himself, which Jongdae returned with a cat-like grin and a loose handshake. Not much was said, they just enjoyed the performance with Jongdae’s soft humming and Sehun’s slight swaying. By the end of the song, the wind had picked up remarkably and large drops of rain had begun to fall from the dark skies above. Sehun noticed the women's lack of warm clothes and handed over his thin rain jacket with apologies that, sadly, that’s all he had. Turning back to say goodbye to the stranger, Sehun found Jongdae smiling and asking him to grab some coffee. Sehun could all but decline an offer so appealing. They spent most of the night in a rundown ice cream shop, taking refuge from the downpour. Soon the rain slowed down to a soft drizzle and Jongdae was determined to dance in the rain with the lanky boy. Even after all the protests Sehun had put up, the older was able to get him back to the park and dancing in hand with Jongdae. The two kept in touch after their first meeting and instantly arranged for a proper date. Sehun had counted a total of six dates and he found himself in the internal debate of whether he should kiss Jongdae or not. By the tenth date Sehun picked up the nerve at dinner and kissed Jongdae mid sentence. Sehun then stopped counting the number of dates they had enjoyed but began the count of kisses they shared. After ordering an ice cream at the rundown shop five months after their first kiss, Sehun told Jongdae about his difficulties keeping track of all their kisses when he’d kiss Sehun more than once, over and over again without a break. Jongdae laughed at Sehun’s silly counting games and told him that the only reason he kissed Sehun so much was because he loved him. Sehun couldn't have been happier with that reply.

Being together for three years has lead Jongdae and Sehun to fall so completely and unquestionably in love. Jongdae is still discovering fascinating and charming quirks of Sehun and can’t help but love every new detail. Sehun has moved from counting kisses to counting the reasons why Jongdae is so special to the world and himself. There was a time where Sehun tried explaining his infatuation to Jongdae but he simply couldn’t find the words. Jongdae had responded with a pout that only had seconds before it was kissed away with a quiet explanation of having so much love that it is impossible for Sehun to find words to accurately represent his feelings. The love shared between the two has guided them through years of positives and negatives, and they are certain that the love they feel for one another will remain unchanged indefinitely.
