/↳Making the Grade

Description

Junhong would prefer to be out making history rather than studying it. It's his senior year of high school. Just one more year before he's free. As long as he can pass his history class, that is. After coming home with a less than acceptable exam grade, his parents hire an in-home tutor, Yongguk. If Junhong can keep his grades up he can evade tutoring sessions but when he starts developing feelings for his tutor he's caught between earning good grades and making his parents proud or purposely failing just to spend more time with the man. As graduation approaches he can't afford a major mess up but when he's sitting so close to Yongguk who speaks so passionately about the civil rights movement and the government and the Korean war Junhong can only focus on the look in his eyes and the way his mouth moves and how the corner of his lips curve up into a small smile and graduation is the absolute last thing on his mind.

Foreword

Junhong dragged his feet up the stairs, almost tripping and stubbing his toe. He could vaguely hear the death march in the distance as he made his way down the hall towards his room to meet this new tutor. When he rounded the corner through the doorway he paused to see a man by his bookshelf, examining his cd and toy collection with a plush bunny in his hand. One of the ears was tattered from Junhong teething on it as a toddler and there was a small grape juice stain near the fluffy tail and the nose was slightly crooked from having fallen off and been sewed back on. Twice. The plush toy was well loved, to say the least.

"H-Hey, put him down," Junhong ordered, feeling uncomfortable that a stranger was in his room without him, going through his things. The man turned towards the teenager with a small smile creeping onto his face and Junhong's eyes widened slightly. This man surly didn't look like a tutor in his casual clothes and relaxed demeanor and Junhong briefly wondered if he was actually just an intruder who broke into the home and murdered the real tutor and-- Ah, don't be stupid, Junhong.

"This is something special to you?" His voice was deep and slightly raspy, sending a small shiver down the boy's spine. He set the bunny back down on the shelf carefully where he found it.

Junhong just nodded in response, averting his gaze to the other side of the room and suddenly feeling childish by getting protective over his silly toys in front of the man. He could already tell that this tutoring session wasn't going to be so easy.
