Incomparable

Tiffany laid on her bed, staring at the ceiling. She wanted to cry but she knew it would be just a waste of tears. It ended like this every single time. Everytime she thought she had found a decent guy, things would go wrong. She had thought about how lonely she actually is. Getting closer to being thirty years old every year, she wanted to find her soulmate. And being in a popular girl band didn't help, most of the guys just wanted to get in her pants and nothing else.

She slowly started to accept the fact that maybe choosing this life included making a big sacrifice in her love life..

The door opened and she watched how Taeyeon jumped on the bed, kicking her legs in the air.

‘’Assa! Yul is bringing take out food with Yoong in a few.’’ Taeyeon exclaimed happily and her side to look at Tiffany. Her smile dropped and she looked worried now.

‘’Fany? What's wrong?’’ Taeyeon scooted closer and put her hand on Tiffany's shoulder.

Tiffany looked at her and she couldn't hold those tears back anymore. She burst into tears and hid her face behind her hands, not wanting Taeyeon to see her cry.

‘’Hey…Fany, tell me what's wrong?’’ Taeyeon was really worried now. It was very rare she saw Tiffany cry like this. And she hated it.

‘’Taeyeon...’’ she cried even harder and Taeyeon pulled her into her arms. They laid there, Tiffany still hiding her face behind her hands as Taeyeon made sure to hold her tightly.

‘’Are the others here?’’ Tiffany asked after she had calmed down a bit.

‘’Yeah. But they're busy with the tv show.’’ Taeyeon replied, the loud sounds of the tv shouting in the living room was enough to muffle down the duo's voices.

‘’Tell me what's wrong.’’

‘’Everything...’’ Tiffany pressed her covered face against Taeyeon's clavicle.

‘’You need to stop worrying about it Fany-ah.’’

Tiffany clenched her teeth together, it always amazed her how Taeyeon could find out what was wrong with her without her saying a word. Like she could read her mind.

‘’You'll find someone. Maybe not right now, but someday. It will come to you because you deserve it. Just...wait a little longer, okay?’’ Taeyeon said, tucking Tiffany's hair behind her ear. She then slowly pried Tiffany's hands away from her face, and she let her.

Taeyeon smiled at her.

‘’Can you stay with me for a while?’’ Tiffany asked. She knew the answer already, but she couldn't help but smile a little when Taeyeon wrapped her arm tighter around her than before.

‘’Of course.’’

Tiffany loved the feeling Taeyeon was giving her. She was her best friend and she knew exactly how to console her. She knew exactly what to say and what to do. She knew how Tiffany wanted to be held and she never failed to make Tiffany's heart warm.

There was something about Taeyeon that Tiffany couldn't explain. She just couldn't understand it, but she saw it everyday. It was the way she sometimes looked at her and the things she could see in her eyes. It was the presence she preferred over anyone else's. It was the years she had spent together with Taeyeon. It was the tiniest things Taeyeon did simply to cheer her up. It was the way Taeyeon could be so mature and serious and the way she could turn into a kid again.

It was how Tiffany found herself fitting perfectly on the empty side beside Taeyeon. And she could only wonder if Taeyeon noticed that too.

It was Taeyeon being Taeyeon. Her dorky expressions or her random outbursts when she was agitated from not getting enough sleep. Tiffany could go on and on talking about Taeyeon and never run out of things to say.

The music playing quietly in their van was requested by Taeyeon. A sad song. Tiffany knew Taeyeon was feeling anything but happiness, hence the song. She glanced over to Taeyeon and saw her leaning her head against the window, looking out to the illuminated streets. The practice they had left everyone tired and exhausted but Tiffany felt relaxed. She loved working herself out like that especially when she had a million things to worry about. Except this time every single one of those million things were about Taeyeon.

The others didn’t seem to notice but Tiffany did. She knew Taeyeon like the back of her hand. She could almost, almost feel the emotions Taeyeon felt through the song that was playing. She could feel the sadness that Taeyeon felt. And knowing she was the reason for it made her feel horrible.

Like always, Tiffany would wait for Taeyeon when they got out of the van. Outside by the elevator in the underground parking lot, Tiffany waited and stepped in the elevator once Taeyeon went in. Neither of them said a word but it just was something Tiffany was used to doing and so she continued doing it. Glances were stolen from both parties but the atmosphere wasn’t right. Tiffany fiddled with the strap of her designer bag and chewed the insides of her cheeks. Her phone beeped and she checked the message, closing out of the messaging app once she read it.  The elevator doors opened and they all walked out, leaving Tiffany trailing behind.

Her eyes focused on the person walking in front of her and she bit her lips to stop herself from smiling. Taeyeon’s backpack was hanging open and her stuff threatening to fall out. Tiffany reached out and grabbed the zipper and zipped it up hastily, making Taeyeon turn around only to see a small smile on Tiffany’s face. The clueless expression made Taeyeon look like a kid and suddenly Tiffany found herself reminiscing the times when they were young. She couldn’t help but think about the small things, like how Taeyeon would sometimes forget to zip up her backpack properly. How she sometimes wore her shirt inside out in a hurry and only realized that after they had left the dorms. That, that was Taeyeon. Her Taeyeon.

Tiffany traced the edge of the kitchen table with her fingers and stared at the cup of tea that was in front of her. The peppermint fragrance of the tea lingered in the kitchen and she closed her eyes to breathe it in. The continuous pain in her chest made her so reluctant to do any of the schedules she and the girls were lined up for. She knew she had to keep going. But it was becoming more and more difficult everyday when she found herself missing out on those things Taeyeon did. How they slowly reduced and now, they were coming close to an end. She brought her balled fist to and tightly pressed her lips against it, suppressing the urge to break down into tears.

Just a few weeks ago the news about Tiffany dating someone had broke out and everything changed. Taeyeon changed. She pretended but her expressions were a dead giveaway of her true current mood. Tiffany could see it. She was trying so hard to be strong. She would not let the others see her weak. She did not want to let people know she wasn't okay. There was absolutely nothing Tiffany could do to make it any better. So she resorted to watching Taeyeon from afar.

It was inevitable, they said. Tiffany couldn't give a damn about what was inevitable or not, not after watching Taeyeon drift away from her like that.

It took exactly one month for Taeyeon to turn into being just her member. To be like the rest of the girls, the empty slot of best friend left out vacant for someone else although Tiffany knew very well that it was only reserved for Taeyeon and her only. It had always been for Taeyeon. And then Tiffany began to wonder if that empty slot of soulmate was meant for Taeyeon as well.

It took one month for Tiffany to realize that the guy she was assumingly dating now did not matter anymore. To realize that her endless search for a soulmate had ended a long time ago when she had listed the things Taeyeon was to her one lonely night in her bed. And she regretted not realizing it sooner. She had wished so hard that the guy would be the one. She would give it a chance and see maybe if it would blossom into something more. She had smiled genuinely at the texts he sent her, at the sweet words and gestures from him.

But she had not only smiled at the things Taeyeon did for her. She had smiled with her heart.

Only Taeyeon mattered. Only Taeyeon could make her smile with her heart. Taeyeon was so many things no one could ever be. No one could ever compare to Taeyeon. Not her members and certainly not him.

It took one month. For Tiffany to understand that she wasn't the only one thinking about what she and Taeyeon were. The sad songs, the silence between them, the avoiding, the look Taeyeon had on her face everyday, they were all indications that she wasn’t wondering about these things alone.

The front door clicked open and Tiffany was already walking towards it with determination, leaving her tea untouched on the kitchen table. She saw Taeyeon dropping her bag on the floor and pulling off her shoes. The girl looked up and saw Tiffany standing there with an unreadable expression on her face. They exchanged one look at each other and Tiffany had already launched herself on Taeyeon.

The girl held her just the way Tiffany wanted her to. She didn't need any words.

They departed and Tiffany once again fought the urge to break into tears. Seeing Taeyeon watching her carefully, but noticing the familiar look in her eyes made Tiffany feel secure for some reason.

That evening, Tiffany fell on the empty spot on her bed and smiled when she was embraced almost immediately. She smiled widely, feeling content about being in that spot beside Taeyeon again after a long time. She snuggled into the embrace and noticed that the perfume Taeyeon wore was the one she had bought her for her birthday.

‘’Taeyeon,’’

She her side and faced Taeyeon, purposely getting herself lost in her eyes as the sounds of the girls in the dorm became nothing but faint sounds in the background.

‘’I think you're my soulmate.’’ Tiffany said and the sounds were now slowly fading away and the only thing she heard, was the loud thumping of a heart that she knew belonged to Taeyeon. That gave her enough reason that she should go all the way right now.

‘’You are my soulmate, Taeyeon.’’ she then said, proudly and boldly. She was certain.

The thumping was so loud that Tiffany began to fear her heart would explode.

Taeyeon then inhaled and exhaled slowly, letting the air do its wonders to her racing heartbeat. A tired smile crept up on her lips and her arms around Tiffany tightened.

‘’I’m glad you realized that.’’

Tiffany stared at her confusingly but then smiled back seeing Taeyeon's playful smirk.

She pressed her forehead against Taeyeon's, not minding the fact that her lips were teasingly grazing against the softness of Taeyeon's lips.

The thumping in her chest calmed down a bit, but it made Taeyeon feel alive.

‘’TaeTae, I...I love you.’’ Tiffany breathed out.

Taeyeon gulped and Tiffany could feel her own heart thumping in her chest as well.

‘’I love you too, Miyoung-ah.’’ she whispered back. Tiffany sighed when the pain in her chest was replaced with the familiar feeling of love and bliss that only Taeyeon could bring her.

‘’Why did it take us so long to admit this?’’

Tiffany shrugged. ‘’I honestly don’t know...’’

They heard Sunny’s cheery voice echoing in the hallway. It became quiet again and Tiffany resumed snuggling against Taeyeon.

‘’I’m sorry. About the whole thing that happened.’’ Tiffany spoke after the silence.

‘’Me too.’’ Taeyeon said and pulled away a little so she could look at Tiffany properly. ‘’About...avoiding you and stuff.’’

Tiffany smiled. The guilty look on Taeyeon’s face included a small pout and that made Tiffany’s heart melt.

‘’You know we will work this out, right?’’

‘’I know. I have trust in you.’’

‘’Stop listening to those sad songs too.’’ Tiffany jutted her bottom lip out, causing Taeyeon to grin.

‘’Okay,’’ Taeyeon nodded, bringing her hand up and gently cupping Tiffany’s cheek. She tucked the hair behind her ear and traced the eyebrow with the tip of her finger. ‘’Do you want me to make you some tea before we go to sleep?’’

‘’I actually made some before you came back home. But I never drank it.’’

‘’Why?’’ Taeyeon asked, with her brows raised.

‘’Because...I don’t know. I was thinking. So I forgot to. And then you came so...’’

‘’Let me go make you a new cup of tea then. I’ll add honey so you can sleep better tonight.’’ Taeyeon said and Tiffany bit back a smile.

‘’I know you haven’t been sleeping well. I’m not stupid, you know? Those eye bags and all...make me really feel guilty.’’ Taeyeon then said and sighed. ‘’So let me make you some tea.’’

Tiffany watched Taeyeon prepare her tea. Everything she did seemed to be worthy to watch. Even if it was just making a cup of tea. For Tiffany it was worthy. She loved every moment she got to spend with Taeyeon around.

‘’Here,’’ Taeyeon set the cup in front of Tiffany and seated next to her. ‘’Drink up.’’

‘’Thanks’’ Tiffany said and brought the cup up to her lips, taking a sip carefully.

After taking the empty cup to the sink, she grabbed Taeyeon’s hand and dragged the sleepy girl into her room. Taeyeon climbed up on the bed and watched Tiffany take off her jewellery before she joined her in the bed.

It hadn’t been the first time they shared a bed. But this time it would be different, this time they would share it as being something more than best friends. This time they would cross the line. Legs tangled up under the covers, their arms tightly around each other, they both couldn’t hide their smiles.

Tiffany watched Taeyeon fall asleep first. She was content, right beside Taeyeon, right where she truly belonged.

I don't know if you guys ever wondered that these things could be what Tiffany might think about Taeyeon. I mean...come on. They lived together for 10 years. Call me delulu all you want but it's just the way they look at each other god damnit...

I see people finally coming to their freaking senses about the mess that happened last month and realize that Taeny ship is still sailing okay

Honestly I felt like kicking people to outer space for talking all this non sense, I don't even have the strength to deal with that anymore.

Anyway

Hopefully you guys liked this oneshot and....yeah. Leave comments and stuff XD There might be mistakes and such but I'm honestly too tired to start changing everything, I just wanna post this and go to bed. So excuse me if it's too random

Love ya~
