“It’s for your own good!” he exclaimed, his finger slowly signing the words as he spoke. After the past four years, he wasn’t as proficient as Yejin was in sign language, though Yejin gave him brownie points for trying.

‘If collapsing due to my heart failing on me is what is good for me, then I’d rather be unhealthy for the rest of my life,'  Yejin signed back, slower than her usual pace.

Sungyeol stuck his tongue out at her and grabbed her wrist, pulling her up from his couch.

‘Do it and I’ll sponsor a week’s supply of M&Ms for you,’  Sungyeol signed, smirking as he watched Yejin’s eyes lit up. Just before she agreed however, she stuck her pinkie finger out. She knew how cunning her older brother could get, always finding ways to twist people’s words to his own advantage.

“I’m hurt, Yejin,” he said, “you don’t even trust your own older brother?!”

Yejin frowned and shoved her pinkie finger nearer towards him, reiterating her point.

“Fine, fine,” Sungyeol conceded, wrapping his pinkie finger around hers.

“Now go! Be back in half an hour.”

And this was how Yejin ended up in the park near her house, sweaty and miserable.

Letting out a sigh, she looked at her watch – she’d already taken up 18 minutes. Not bad, for somebody who hadn’t exercised for the past four months. Still, she’d rather get this over and done as soon as possible.

If there was one thing Yejin disliked the most, it would have to be exercising. You’d think a nineteen year old girl would have more stamina in her, but it would be a wonder if she’d even be able to finish running 2KM within 20 minutes.

Come on Yejin, just one more lap and you’ll be done, she thought to herself.

It was ridiculous, really, how she let Sungyeol bully her into doing things. She sometimes wondered what went on in her brother’s head; randomly asking his younger sister to go for a jog was just one of his many crazy ideas. He was the one who had suggested having a picnic in the middle of winter (that hadn’t ended well), or eating baked beans and ice-cream…at the same time.

She took out her cellphone and quickly typed up a new text message to one of her closest friends, Shinyeon, deciding that food would make a good motivation for her to finish her jog.

Yah, free for dinner? I have a sudden craving for waffles!

The cool kind! ㅋㅋ Meet me at our usual spot in ten minutes? Bring Kyorin along as well!

Satisfied, Yejin slipped her phone back into her pocket as she looked into the far distance. That one lap she was left with seemed so far, but from personal experience, she knew that the starting was always the most difficult. Taking a deep breath, she started into a slow jog, before speeding up.

One more lap, Yejin, one more lap and you can have your reward of waff-

That was her last thought before she felt a something – or someone – crashing into her, and then she was flying.
