Foreword

Bully of My Heart

Yoochun could be seen sitting on a chair in his own classroom that afternoon. He was staring out the window and just looking at random stuff below. Their room was situated above the training grounds of the school. So he could see all of those who were practicing their sports that day.

He saw some boys happily playing baseball at the school grounds. He glimpsed at some boys practicing track and field and he smiled. He wanted to join the team but his health didn't permit it. His gaze shifted to the practicing soccer team and he immediately stiffened. One player gave a hard kick to the ball, it was a goal and his team mates cheered. He saw the player laugh in complete happiness but that laugh made Yoochun shake in nervousness and embarrassment. It was Junsu. The guy was the premier soccer player of the school, so even though the school knew that he was a bully, they still let him go. They couldn't afford to lose their most important player after all. That thought made Yoochun feel more hopeless. He knew he couldn't escape the guy no matter what he did.

Whenever they had lunch, just like earlier, Junsu insisted on eating Yoochun's bento. It was like that every day. Yoochun was forced to cook more because Junsu always insisted that they had lunch together. Yoochun's mom was so happy because she thought her son was eating a lot which meant he was going to be healthier. What she didn't know was a certain bully was sharing with her son's lunch. What pissed Yoochun more was when Junsu finished his bento, he would always buy ice cream for the two of them. And Yoochun didn't really like ice cream. He didn’t like sweets. But he had to eat it or Junsu would be mad at him. But he didn't buy him ice cream today. And that surprised Yoochun.

He glanced at his watch and sighed. Junsu would be finishing practice in twenty minutes, which meant he had to be waiting at the front of the school before he came out of the gym. Yoochun took his heavy books and school stuff from his desk and put it in his bag. He didn't want Junsu to wait and be angry with him again.

As he was preparing his stuff, Min Jung came in to get something from her desk. She saw Yoochun and immediately gave a greeting.

“Are you going home with Junsu sunbae again?” She asked nonchalantly.

Yoochun nodded and said, “Yes.” He proceeded to fix his things and didn't pay his classmate any mind. He was about to exit the door when Min Jung spoke again.

“Yoochun-ah! Can I talk to you for a sec?” she asked. Yoochun turned and she then motioned for him to sit down. He took the offered seat beside her.

“Is there a problem?”

Min Jung had her brows furrowed as if thinking hard of what she should say. Then she sighed and said, “I can't help but notice that you've always been with Junsu sunbae after the juice incident in the cafeteria. Tell me Yoochun-ah, are you going out with him?”

Yoochun choked and almost fell off his chair at this. His eyes grew round in surprise. “What are you talking about?”

“Well, you know...all of us knew that this started four months ago. You bathed him with orange juice. He got mad and then he started bullying you.”

Yoochun was still unsure of what to say, “So? The guy is a bully so he bullies me!”

Min Jung shook her head. “No, Yoochun-ah. Junsu-sunbae never bullies anyone longer than two or three weeks. It's a proven fact. He's very fickle when it comes to his victims. But you—you have been ‘bullied’ for four months now. Clearly, you can see that he sees you differently.”

“What! You know, Min Jung, I really can't understand what you're saying. He bullies me because he wants to. A bully never chooses until when he'll bully anyone. There's no time limit for that! Although I'd really want him to stop doing it to me.” Yoochun said with not enough energy.

“No, I'm telling you, it's different. I think he's not really bullying you but courting you.” Min Jung whispered.

Yoochun lost it. He laughed incredulously. “Yeah right! It's like you're saying Junsu sunbae is gay! How can you even say that?”

Min Jung just stared at Yoochun seriously. Her stare made Yoochun stop laughing, after some time, he felt suddenly uncomfortable. “He is gay, Yoochun. I'm sure of it. The moment he saw he you in the cafeteria, I've been sure. He IS gay. Think!” She grabbed Yoochun's arm when he attempted to rise and leave. “Think Yoochun! Just think back. Don't you guys eat lunch alone? Just the two of you? He insisted that he eat with you right? Then, you told me that when Yunho sunbae talked to you earlier, Junsu sunbae was so angry. And he's always angry when some guy talked to you or looked at you right? You told me that.”

Yoochun remembered all of the times that he experienced those and he had no choice but to nod in agreement. “But that doesn't mean that he's gay--”

Min Jung seemed satisfied with her deduction and continued. It was as if Yoochun didn't speak at all. “Then, you mentioned that whenever you guys go home, he always lets you carry his bag and he in turn carries your bag.” Yoochun once again nodded. Min Jung smiled as if she couldn't contain her mirth. “Didn't you realize Yoochun-ah that he carries your bag instead because yours is heavier? You've got more books than him after all! So that means....!” She wiggled her eyebrows at him, waiting for him to admit that what she said was true. She sighed when she got no reaction from Yoochun. “Yah! What kind of gay person are you? You can't even tell when someone likes you? Pabo ya?”

Yoochun stood up from his seat. He paced back and forth as what his friend told him continued to ring in his ears. He spared her a glance and shook his head, she sighed. “No, you're wrong. How can he be gay! I mean—just look at him! He's very strong, he's the best soccer player. All students here know him as a tough guy. He's practically bullied everybody! So I can't really believe what you're saying Min Jung!” He didn't realize his voice was bordering on being hysterical.

Min Jung stood up too and went to Yoochun. “Okay, if what I'm saying was false, and he's not into you...tell me one instance when he really did hurt you. Has he ever hit you? Huh?”

She waited for Yoochun to speak then after some time he shook his head. “N-No, not really...he just always got mad. But he never once hit me. Oh, but he's really scary when he's angry so I'm always nervous...when that happens.”

Min Jung smiled and put her hand on his shoulder and said, “I also don't think that you're nervous at all. I think you're feeling something different. But no matter, we'll get to that later.” She looked him in the eye. “Do you want to make sure?” Yoochun looked at her, puzzled. “Do you want to prove that he's gay and he's got the hots for you?”

Yoochun snorted, still unbelieving, but he said, “How?”

Min Jung smiled a bit, a smile that he didn't like. Whenever she did that, it meant trouble for Yoochun.
