Foreword

Bully of My Heart

Yoochun nervously stood as he waited outside the classroom. In his hands was a folder with the report that he had researched last night. There were dark circles under his eyes and he kept himself from yawning for the nth time that day. He didn’t get enough sleep because he was up all night doing the rushed project. Well, actually it wasn’t supposed to be rushed but it was given to him just two days ago so he didn’t have much time to do it. Nevertheless, he still managed to finish it last night. He just hoped that the person he was giving this too would appreciate it. But somehow he doubted it.

He straightened when he saw that the class was being dismissed by the female teacher. All the students stood up and said goodbye. The teacher passed Yoochun and glanced at him. Her look told him that she was wondering why he was there. Yoochun smiled a little nervously. He didn't like it that he was there too but he had no choice. He had to do it or else he'd be in trouble.

Yoochun craned his neck toward the doorway of the classroom to look for the reason why he was there. A lot of students also looked at him. They already knew him and so they were not surprised that he was there. Some students looked at him with sympathetic eyes; some were nonchalant, while others were smirking evilly at him. Yoochun felt his cheeks heat up in embarrassment. He didn't really want them to see him here, this wasn't even his classroom. His hands clutched the folder tightly in anger. He was angry at that person but he knew he was angrier with himself for letting the guy bully him. He knew he should have walked away from there but he couldn't. He just couldn't.

The students walked passed him as they went out of the room but Yoochun didn't pay them any mind. He didn't care about them and he just wanted to finish this as soon as he could. Yoochun stiffened when he heard a laugh. It was a laugh that he knew well, Yoochun cringed inwardly. Whenever he heard it, he immediately felt like his knees would buckle beneath him. He was scared and nervous at the same time. He didn’t like those feelings but he was helpless. ‘It’s not uncommon, Yoochun. Everyone fears him…you’re no exception. Do you want to fight him? You’re such a loser.’ He said to himself. Yoochun mentally slapped himself and struggled to forget his weakness. He waited for the person to come out of the room.

Kim Junsu walked out of the room with two of his friends, or more appropriately, his bully-buddies, in tow. He was a sophomore in that high school and a well-known and feared bully. His exploits in the school were so well-known that even neighboring schools had heard of him. One would wonder how a guy like him could command such fear from the school population. He wasn’t a big guy; in fact, he was just of normal built. He wasn’t even that skilled in the fighting department. Well, maybe he knew how to throw some kicks and punches but these didn’t really warrant any real threat to any one who dared stand up to him. Provided that they were tough and all. What completely put everyone in awe of him was his presence. He had the countenance of a tough guy. His eyes were sharp, his lips straight. He had a ‘no nonsense’ aura that threw anyone off. Like he wouldn’t care about authority. Like he wasn’t afraid of anyone. And he wasn’t. The school board knew of his activities yet they do nothing. Junsu was captain of the school soccer team. He had led the team into numerous victories and could definitely deliver the goods, so to speak.

Right now, as he went out of the classroom, he was clearly very happy about something that his friend said to him. Yoochun felt the familiar nervousness that he always felt whenever Junsu was near. He didn’t really understand it himself. It was like his heart would suddenly leap out of his chest. Whenever Junsu was with him, Yoochun noticed that he would almost always feel embarrassed. He didn’t know why but he felt that way. He associated that feeling with his continuous fear of the school bully. He didn’t want to put any significance to it.

Actually, a year ago, Yoochun’s life was quite normal. He was a freshman in a new school. He had wanted to be just a normal student, make friends, have good grades and spend time his with his best friend, Min Jung, his best friend since elementary days. But that wish wasn’t meant to happen.

Yoochun knew Kim Junsu four months ago when he accidentally spilled juice on Junsu's uniform. It was an event that Yoochun regretted everyday. He and Min Jung were in the cafeteria to have lunch. He was lining up to get food at the same time chatting with his friend. Min Jung warned him to keep an eye on the line and watch out for people walking by. But Yoochun didn’t mind her. He still chatted animatedly not really looking at where he was going. And then it happened. As he was turning to get to the nearest free chair he could see, he didn’t notice a person also coming toward his direction. His tray bumped into a body and his glass’s contents found its way onto the shirt of the person in front of him. Everybody who saw the accident gasped and feared for Yoochun’s life. Or what was going to be left of it in maybe, just a few minutes.

Yoochun was so shocked that he wasn’t able to react immediately. He didn’t notice the orange liquid seeping through Junsu’s shirt or the way the people were whispering about. All he saw was the angry eyes of his sunbae, Kim Junsu.

As Yoochun nervously stammered an apology, Junsu just looked like he wanted to punch someone really bad.

“What’s your name?” Junsu practically shouted. The whole cafeteria heard it.

It made Yoochun more nervous, but he was able to squeak out a reply. “P-Park Yoochun, Kim-sunbae.”

Junsu wanted to drag the guy out and show him what he did to people who do things like this to him but something about the guy made him pause. He wasn’t sure but he just felt like he should see his face first before he did anything rash. And so he waited for the guy to look up. But he was fully intent in keeping his head bowed. It made Junsu lose his patience.

Yoochun was not really looking at Junsu; he was instead staring at the floor, wanting it to swallow him up. He knew who Kim Junsu was, so he was mortified that this happened to him. Min Jung was the one who apologized profusely for her friend but Junsu wasn’t listening to her. His eyes were trained on Yoochun all the time. That was when he called Yoochun’s attention.

“Yah! If you’re done boring a hole there, look at me.”

Yoochun slowly lifted his gaze and Junsu saw his face for the first time. Junsu was momentarily speechless. His gaze roamed everywhere from Yoochun’s short hair that framed his soft features to dark brown eyes, ending with his reddish lips. He was beautiful. It was the first time he had seen a man that could look like a girl. His mind churned with very varied ideas. As his eyes roamed over Yoochun’s figure, Junsu also noted that the guy in front of him was clearly very afraid of him. Junsu smirked at that knowledge.
