Foreword

"I'm here," I said as I opened the door to a mansion. The mansion was 2 stories high. I was dark since that incident. We used to live here together. You were mine and I was yours.  The atmosphere was shockingly bright since it was abandoned years back. I looked down to the note that was given to me.

'Go to the attic.- '.

The attic, It's been a long time . I climbed up the stairs. Every step the stair creaks, as if it was about to collapsed. I looked at the walls. There was pictures painted on canvas. The pictures was faded. But I can distinguished one of the pictures on the wall. It was Angel. She was wearing bright red lipstick . Her eyes was hazel green , hidden behind thick wavy eyelashes. Her black curls reached her chest.

I walked in the room, where we used to hang out together. The room was teemed with a strange feeling. Loneliness. Sadness. I guess that’s how you were when I left you. I walked aimlessly around the room. Then I notice an old film projector. It was standing high as me. With its old reels of film, it stood up in the room. As I put my hand on the projector, the projector suddenly starts up and projected your face. Your innocent smile seems to brighten the room as it was before. All the good times suddenly flashed back. I began writing a fiction, where we meet each other for the last time. I felt my eyes began watering. I closed my eyes and suddenly my hand was pulled by an unknown strength.

I opened my eyes, and found myself in the room full of mirrors. I was everywhere, at every nook and cranny. I began to inspect for an exit and got lost. I was scared, the mirrors suddenly looked as it was getting closer, trying to squish me. After hours of finding the exit, I sat down, my back against a mirror. I held my head with frustration .Suddenly something twinkled on my chest. I looked down and saw a silver heart necklace. The necklace was decorated with red rubies, which is shaped as a rose. Then suddenly all the mirrors reflected a silhouette. It was you. You wore a long white dress, with your shiny black hair that fall down your shoulders.

“Angel!” I said as I ran towards a mirror. Your silhouette looked at me with a blank face and moved to another mirror. I chased you, going deeper into the mirror maze. As I reached the middle of the maze, you disappeared. The electricity was down, with only one light shone behind me. I caress the mirror, your silhouette unexpectedly appeared. I was happy, relived to see the girl I’ve sought since the breakup. You looked at me, this time with rage and sadness flashed in your hazel brown eyes.  I looked at you with regret and guilt. I reached for your cheek, and then the last light fade away, you, too, left me here alone.

I held my heart. It felt like it has been shattered to pieces. Like a glass. I held my head as my tears suddenly fell down my cheeks .Finally I realized she was to me. Shedding tears was worthless. Nothing can bring her back now. I looked myself in the mirror, who was smiling with pride. Filled with anger, I held my fist in the air.

‘CLINK!’ The mirror shattered to pieces. My fist was bleeding profusely. Then the mirrors suddenly began to shatter to pieces. I close my ears and close my eyes. After a few minutes I opened my eyes and found myself back in the room. I was relieved and started searching for a note from her. The drawers were empty.  I was starting to give up then I find something on the last drawer near a mirror. It was a gun, a revolver. As on cue, the film projected a scene. It was the scene when I decided to break our engagement. That time I was expecting for you to cry or begged me on your knees. But no, you smiled and started laughing, saying,

” I’ve never liked you anyways”.

I aimed the gun toward the projector.

 I’m worthless.

Suddenly I heard. I faced back and pointed the gun towards that object. It was me, in a mirror. But In the mirror, I aimed the gun towards my temples. ‘Click’ the sound of the gun. I was shocked. Suddenly, the room was decolorizing gradually, all the colours fade. I was confused. I look back to the mirror and saw how in the reflection, was still in brightly colour.

So, this is how reality is.

I put my gun down.

I’m just wasting myself, stuck in this fantasy.

I looked down to the ring on my finger.

I’m too scared to face the reality.

I hardened my grip of the gun

No one would even notice if I disappeared from this world.

 It was my entire fault.

I shouldn’t have broken you off that night. The night, when you died was tragic. You were mowed on the rood by a lorry. But you deserved it. YOU DESERVED IT.  You cheated on me since our engagement.

But why would they accuse me? I wasn’t there when she died. I was bawling my eyes out in my room. But she was out with her boyfriend, getting higher than the empire state building. She was happy when I broke our engagement off. She even threw the engagement ring on a trash can in front of me.

Why? Why me? I looked at the mirror. He’s the only friend that has been loyal to me, a shadow. Yes, a shadow. I looked him in the eyes. The reflection was smiling at me, with his tears flowing down his cheek. I aimed the gun to my head, whereby the reflection points the gun to my chest. He was shocked. His pupils dilated, he was mouthing something.

Please don’t.

I smiled, letting the tears fall freely. The reflection was my only friend, a shadow. He, who cares about me. He, who understands my feelings.

It’s better without me breathing, I said.

My fingers were nervously on the trigger. Then the bullet blasted my head. The mirror was shattered as the bullet struck my skull. But I managed to smile for the last time.

We’ll be together forever,friend.
