Color Me Opaque

Description

Quantitative dreaming. A natural habit that Daehyun possessed, it haunted him through the day with repetitive images. A deft hand splashed them over canvasses, sidewalks, sketchbooks, the like. And it all circled back to the image of a male, round cheeks and luminous eyes. And Daehyun does not understand why he's obsessed with a boy he's never met.

Foreword

"Can I help you?" a wary tone sounded out, pulling Daehyun from his reverie. It didn't do much else, as the most he accomplished in the following moment was letting his jaw drop open.

"Well?" the voice was now impatient, and Daehyun couldn't help but study the way it creased the other's brows and drew his round lips downward.

"I... uh... One espresso, please," he handed the cashier the money, his eyes never leaving the other's face. His eyes roamed greedily over the soft black locks, the rounded eyes and the soft edges of the slim jawline; he drank in the amber flecks in the other's irises, and studied the way plush lips moved as he talked. He couldn't let an opportunity like this slip by when he finally had the chance to do the boy justice. When he wasn't just a recreation of a fuzzy dream.

His eyes fell to the name tag pinned to the barista's uniform. 'Youngjae', Daehyun's own lips shaped the form of the name, and though it was foreign he couldn't shake the nostalgia he felt from just mouthing it.

"Coming up," the employee replied dryly, casting a final suspicious glance at the artist before retreating to brew the drink. When he returned moments later, an annoyed huff left his lips as the strange customer had already gone, disappearing from sight in the corner of the shop window.

Youngjae arrived early the next day to open up shop, but his footsteps slowed as he approached the quaint store, eyes widened in skepticism.

"You're joking," he said aloud, attracting the attention of the same customer from yesterday who stood in wait outside of the cafe. This time around he wielded a bag and a sketchbook, pencil in hand as his face lit up at the sight of the employee.

"I won't bother you, I promise. Just pretend I'm not here."

Why did Youngjae say "You're joking"? Did Daehyun ask his number?
