Chapter Ten

Not So Lonely Island

Chapter Ten

"We need to start thinking of a rescue plan," Yuri stated, sitting in the shade as she leaned against a tree. Her hands ran through the smooth sand.

"Rescue plan?" Jessica asked, proceeding to sit down next to Yuri, "What do you have in mind?"

"I'm not sure," Yuri mumbled, looking out onto the beach, "We could write 'SOS' in the sand, but it'll only get washed away by the tide,"

Yuri had remembered about 'SOS' from when she was in school and when she learned about the Titanic. She learned that it had most commonly meant 'Save Our Souls' or 'Save Our Ship'. It was the best distress signal to send out when in need of a rescue, and it seemed to fit most in this situation.

"Unless we move the 'SOS' upwards, towards the hut," Jessica pointed with her finger.

"Yeah, that could work," Yuri nodded, thinking about it, "Okay. Yeah, that'll work. That way, any plane that flies above us can see it," She stood up before lending a hand down and helping Jessica up.

"But what about the ships that pass by?" She asked, "What do we do with that?"

Yuri released a sigh, "Let's worry about one thing first, okay?" She gave a light chuckle to ease the atmosphere. Jessica pressed her lips together and nodded, "Okay, so what do we do?"

"Find large branches and sticks so we can make the letters stand out."

And so, the two girls spent the entire day working on the SOS letters, yet they've only managed to get up to the 'O'. Foreheads full of sweat, they both collapsed under a tree as the sun disappeared behind the long stretched sea. Yuri, who was sweating much harder than Jessica, took heavy breaths, grabbing a tattered shirt from the side and wiping her sweat away.

A hand stopped Yuri's and Yuri watched as Jessica took the shirt away from her. What surprised Yuri was Jessica wiping off her sweat for her.

"Jessica?" Yuri questioned in a small tone yet Jessica continued to wipe the sweat off until there seemed to be no more left.

"Thanks." The tan girl gave a smile and Jessica nodded, "No problem.." She whispered. Jessica wasn't sweating as much, but there were beads of liquid on her neck. Yuri took the shirt and dried the sweat off of Jessica's neck and collarbones.

"Do you think it'll work?" Jessica asked as Yuri wiped off the last drip of sweat.

"What?" Yuri asked, placing the shirt off to the side.

"The 'SOS'."

Yuri gave a sigh as she shrugged, "I hope it works."

Jessica bit her lip as she saw Yuri bend over and curl into a ball, resting her chin on her knees, "We put so much work into this and if it doesn't work then I'll be devastated." Yuri mumbled. Her back hurt from crouching over the whole day.

"I think it'll work." Jessica smiled.

Yuri looked over, "You think so?" She asked with a raised eyebrow, her lips slightly curving up.

"Yeah.. I mean.. It's not naturally normal to see 'SOS' written so clearly on the beach of an abandoned island.. Someone's gotta notice."

Yuri hummed and looked away. They stayed silent for a moment but as soon as the musquitos started to show up, Yuri stood, "Let's get inside the hut." Jessica followed the younger girl into the hut where they closed the door shut and quickly attended to the dying fire.

It was almost mechanic, the way they automatically went to fix the fire. Jessica handed Yuri sticks and wood branches while Yuri would fit them inside the fire. They repeated the proccess until the fire was roaring heavily.

Then, they sat down after a long day of work.

"Here, you can sleep first, you seem really tired." Jessica said as she sat besides Yuri, patting her lap. Yuri looked up, "Are you sure?"

"Yeah, of course. Here, lay down." The blonde girl nodded and patted her lap again. Yuri smiled and got into a laying position, placing her head onto Jessica's lap, "Thanks, Jessica."

"No problem." Jessica replied, running her fingers through Yuri's damaged hair slowly. Jessica's free hand reached up to touch her own hair. It was just as damaged as Yuri's. A light sigh escaped her lips.

She couldn't wait to take an actual bath.

Yuri woke up and did not feel her head on a certain person's lap. Sitting up, Yuri looked around for Jessica and saw her crouched down near the fire, poking it with a stick. Walking over, Yuri sat down.

"Oh, you're awake." Jessica stated, merely glancing over at the taller girl before continuing to poke at the fire.

"Yeah, I am." Yuri replied, smiling at how concentrated Jessica looked while poking the fire. aimlessly, "You can head to sleep, Jessica."

Jessica shook her head, "I'm not sleepy." she replied in monotne

Yuri raised an eyebrow, "Jessica?"

Yuri's arm wrapped around Jessica's shoulder, "Come on, go to sleep." She cooed, gently pushing Jessica's head onto her shoulder, "Sleep, Sica."

"Sica?" Jessica mumbled, hearing the new nickname. She began relaxing her body into Yuri's embrace.

"I meant Jessica." Yuri corrected herself.

"No." Jessica whispered, her eyes closing by themselves, "Sica's fine. Call me Sica."

Yuri gave a soft chuckle, arm tightening it's hold on Jessica, "Alright, Sica. Go to sleep."

Yuri clapped her hands as she watched Jessica set down the last branch needed, "We finished it!" She exclaimed, stepping back to admire their work. Jessica stumbled over, tired from carrying the heavy branch.

"Yeah. And I'm tired."

"Now we wait for a plane to come by and notice this."

It's been nearly a month since the two got stuck on the island and multiple times, a plane had passed. They've always tried to get the plane's attention, but it was hard because they know that just on the opposite side of the island, there were killers.

"I wish it's soon." Jessica muttered.

"I do too." Yuri added, though she didn't sound very excited about the thought of leaving the island.

"I'm hungry." Jessica stated.

"There's still some pineapple and bananas over there." Yuri pointed. Jessica turned, "Do you want one?"

"No thanks." Yuri shook her head, folding her arms over her chest and looking at their hardwork. She knew that by getting rescued, it meant leaving Jessica. But seeing the way Jessica was at the time, merely bones and skin with no fat at all, Yuri wanted to get rescued badly. Yuri wanted Jessica to be healthy again with the same plump cheeks she had when Yuri first saw her.

She wanted Jessica to be healthy again, even if it meant Yuri had to leave her.

Yuri was going to get the both of them rescued no matter what she had to do
