Perfect Picnic in the Library

Description

My boyfriend is the most amazing person there is, full stop. We go on
picnics, he surprises me with flowers, and even his way of asking me
to the Leaver's Prom was..... well,... perfect.

Jin knows EVERYTHING about me, its like we're tailored to eachother.
My favourite book, my obsessions, music and the exact spot where I'm
most ticklish (behind my knees, in case you're wondering). He's seen
me in highs and lows, and he loves me for those, no matter how I
seemed in those situations.

Its like we were made for eachother, and we can't be apart. He wrote
me letters, even when he went on holiday for a month, poor thing. He
must have spent a fortune in stamps, just to make me laugh, and let me
know how much he loves me. People say we're too young to know you love
someone so deeply, but we know, no matter what anyone says, we know,
we truly do.

My favourite book is Roverandom. Jin knows this (jeez, I remind him
enough, and have huge fangirl moments over my favourite childhood book
too many times to be called normal), and bless him, he was cute the
way he used this. We were in the library; we have our aisle, you see.
I'm not specifying which one (that's an inside joke, for another time,
maybe), but its ours, and everyone knows it.

So, for this proposal for a prom date, is as follows, (Christ, how
unpoetic does that sound!)

Jin had been acting weird all day. Grinning like a child on Christmas
day constantly (which was seriously grating on my nerves), he was
acting just a bit funny, which, I suppose, just adds to the allure of
the adoration I always will posses for the romanticism of this moment.
I was beginning to sense something was up when he was smiling in a
lovestruck, yet slightly I-know-something-you-dont fashion. I didn't
find out what he was so proud of until lunchtime. Now, I know he has
every reason to be proud of himself, and I will always tell him that.

We had biology before lunch- the bane of my existence. I'm lucky Jin
and I are together in alphabetical order- as Mrs Johnson made herself
no different to any other teacher we've ever had in this god-forsaken
dump that the education board calls a school- she makes us sit in
register order. Isn't she clever? Let's give the woman a trophy. Um,
yeah- I really don't like Biology (or Mrs Johnson, can you tell?)! So;
either Jin was really happy to be learning about speciation, or he was
up to something. I suspected the latter, rather than the former. How
new species are formed so that they can't interbreed isn't something I
would be too joyous about.

He dragged me straight to the library after the snooze-fest lesson was
over. I was carted rather willingly to our aisle, where I was plonked
down unceremoniously onto the scratchy carpet.

Sitting cross legged infront of me, he pulled a tupperware box out of
his bag, too busy beaming to check for our dragon of a librarian.
Luckily, she wasn't within sight. Jin opened it up, and handed me my
favourite sandwhich, a cake from the best bakery ever, and the
tastiest Starbuck's coffee ever to be brewed by mankind. I don't know
how he kept it hot, but he had it in my travel cup, and it was sending
off the most amazing smells. Jin didn't say a word, he just carried on
smiling in the cutest and most infuriating smile ever to cross
anyone's lips.

"What?" I laughed.

"Go on, I've got my own, we can have a little picnic in here," he
replied, the knowledgable smile never once fading.

I bit into the bread; it was so soft. Jin had made everything perfect.

"What's all this for?" I asked, puzzled.

"I can't just surprise my girlfriend with her favourite lunch?" Jin
faked a puppy-dog look of innocence.

"Actually, Olivia, I have something else,"

Slowly reaching into his bag, he pulled out a thick envelope with
'Olivia' written across in Jin's neat handwriting print containing a
package. Looking at it with half a smile, he handed it to me with a
sincere awe-struck look on his face.

"Open it," he said softly.

Cautiously, I broke the seal and pulled out an oblong, bubble-wrapped
package. Resisting the urge to pop the bubbles like a child, I sensed
this was important, so I held back the childish urge. Carefully
unwrapping the bubble wrapping, I was puzzled, and upon smiling
questioningly at Jin, I was only supplied with a look of anticipation.

Upon unwrapping it, I would have screamed at Jin, if we weren't in the
library. He had found an early publication of Roverandum. It had been
written in the 1920's, but wasn't published until the 90's, and Jin
had got me a mint copy from the first set of printing. I threw my arms
around him, whispering a thank you in his ear. He whispered back,
telling me to look at it again.

Peeking out of the top, marking out a page, was a heart. I flipped the
book open to the page, and found a photocopy of the text and
illustration over the actual page (as not to deface the book, though I
wouldn't have cared if he had), with words hilighted in pink: will you
go to the prom with me?

I looked up, feeling my eyes go watery so that I couldn't see. I
nodded, biting my lip. Feeling a huge fangirl moment come along, I
surpressed the urge to comment on how perfect it is, and how this
should totally go on Tumblr.

"Of course," I said softly. "Of course, yes, yes, yes."

I gave him a hug, and we spent the rest of lunch eating the picnic,
laughing and snuggled up cosily together. It was a perfect moment, and
Jin....well, he is the most perfect thing of all.
