The Writer's Ink

Description

Sometimes all we need is a guide - someone to be our best friend, and take us down the path we're too scared to walk.

Because sometimes, even our own words can hurt us.

So Melody, here's your challenge, please: Teach us how to write.

Foreword

Hello everyone! :D

It's great to talk to you all again, especially after all the love you've been giving me ^^ I'm so happy you guys can't even imagine. I've been getting so many votes on my polls, a plethora of pageviews, and most importantly, SO many comments on my fics it's becoming difficult to response to them all XD Definitely happy. :D

Anyways, today I'm going to introduce to you all a new series, which is NOT a fanfiction series, but rather tips on HOW to write fanfiction instead. I placed a poll on my blog I believe only a few days ago, three at the max, and I got several people requesting for me to submit tips and my personal thoughts on how to write fanfiction.

What are the rules? Where do I start? HOW do I start?

Goodness – my exact emotional response when I started writing XD

But yeah, there were a lot of questions, a lot of worries, and a lot of concerns. In the end I decided that although I'm not a professional, I do know a good few things about the ficcage world – I'm practically ancient when it comes to fanfiction XD – and even though I've had my own fic setbacks, I know quite a bit of information when it comes to writing.

And I want to share that with you guys :D

So without further ado, I would like to introduce everyone to my new segment, which will mostly be available on my blog and AFF, The Writer's Ink. I know, how creative am I with titles? XD I need to ask Vera to come up with better titles and names for me XD

But yes, please welcome The Writer's Ink, with open arms. I will do my best to answer as much as I can and teach you what I can. If you have any questions or comments: leave a comment below, shoot me and e-mail, or leave a comment in the chatbox ;)

Enjoy! Don't forget to comment and subscribe! :D

P.S: Despite the fact that I have struggled and do struggle with my own writing, it's easier for me to help other people than it is for me to help myself. I don't really understand why that it is, but it is, and I sincerely hope that while I write this series, I won't be the only one learning something during the ride ;)

P.S.S: My personal fanfiction blog: http://peachkisses101.blogspot.com/ in case anyone is interested. :D It has most of my fics and a ton of other interesting sections :D

I have an account in LJ but I made it so that I could find my friend who left AFF but now that she is back, I never returned to that site. I guess, it would be nice trying to post stories there. Or not, being the lazy Keeper that I am.

I didn't know DA has space for fanfiction. I forgot my username and password in that site, lol. Fail.

Fanfiction.net, I read anime fics in that site. My only gripe is that I am required to comment. To review. That box suddenly appears after reading a chapter and yeah, I take things seriously. I write paragraph-long comments filled with corrections, encouragements and everything I could think of, lol. Then I see the comments section with one-liners, lol XDDDD

Ohhh! I am interested in blogging fics. Not fics. But originals ^^ I don't know if I will be doing it right away but it would be nice to have basic knowledge about it.

All in all. I like this first chapter. Very informative. I am looking forward to your next chapters ^-^
In the Foreword section you can only list the names of your characters under the Character section, meaning all character charts must then be inserted into the Foreword.
-umm, authors should be able to build their character's within their story. Providing character charts just makes me (the reader) look ignorant ^^ I mean, I can read. I can understand. No need for the author to spoon feed me with these details. And it just kills the surprise, when you know who is who, when you are supposed to find that out in the story ^^

On the same note, the featured fics are usually undeserving of theur title, and it almost makes you angry to see such bad quality fics getting such an honor, but what happens, happens.
- Getting featured is based on algorithm. I think users here know that. It depends on the number of views, subscribers, author's karma, etc. Since this site is filled with unprofessional writers who loves cliche and doesn't mind technical aspects such as grammar and punctuation, it would definitely reflect on the results of the algorithm. Hence, the stories getting featured are mostly cliche, which they like.

The community is also unorganized in the sense that request and other service shops are usually lost within the mix of other stories and fics.
- Meet: the tag. This is how I find review and poster request shops. This is how I found your fic.

I have an account in soompi but it is merely for getting updates on the kpop scene. I have seen their fanfiction section and boy, am I pretty much distracted, with comments from readers in between chapters. It is basically the same with other forums , e.g. SJ World, Animea. What I love about Animea (anime and manga forum) is that authors are required to create his/her story thread in the Comments section. It is a little bit organized that way. I join writing contests in that forum but I only created a thread for my poems. Writing chaptered fics could be a bit messy in forums.
woah this is EXTENSIVE!! but I read it all x3 Hmm..AFF has..bit of a bad reputation. The (ironic) way I found out about this site in February was some Twitter followers of mine trashtalking it o.o And then I was like "I must check out this 'terrible' site'". Yet, in my experience and opinion, this site is really great. Hehe maybe I've too much luck (following my personal rules of one: not checking out the Featured and two: reading the Foreword with a critical eye). And LiveJournal has been a buddy of mine seen 2007 (when I was reading Fall Out Boy and other bandslash XD).
