That One Special Coffee

Coffee

Joon never did love coffee.

He always thought that it was too bitter and smoothies are a thousand (if not million) times better.

But for the last few years, he fell in love with one particular coffee.

Hazelnut Frappucino

It all started 8 years ago, when Joon joined J.Tune Camp. He was one of the 2 trainee that was accepted that batch. He and Seungho. Yep, the same Seungho that became MBLAQ's leader. But back then, Seungho lived away from his family and didn't want to be too much of a burden, since he had a younger sibling that still need a lot of money for educations and such, so he worked. He worked as a barista in the cafe near J.Tune's headquarter. He wasn't really good at it at first, but he always was learning.

When he thought his skill was decent enough, he brought a cup of coffee back with him to J.Tune's dormitory, he wanted Joon to try it. As soon as he got into the dorm, Joon greeted him cheerfully, and Seungho told him about the coffee he was now confident in, the hazelnut frappucino. Joon was about to refuse, saying that he didn't like coffee, but the expectant face of the older told him not to. So he didn't. He asked Seungho what it was, the elder happily answered: "Coffee blended with toffee nut syrup, milk and ice. Topped with hazelnut drizzle." The elder was good at selling things, really. So Joon trusted him and took a sip of it. It wasn't as bad as Joon thought it was. Sure, it was still a little bit bitter for his liking, but it wasn't as bitter as the coffee his dad loved. Joon could stand it and he figured that this is good coffee based on that.

The next day, Seungho returned to the dorm with Caramel Macchiato. Joon asked him the same question and was replied by: "It's a freshly steamed milk with vanilla-flavored syrup, marked with espresso and finished with caramel sauce." Joon smiled and nodded, he tried the coffee, it was sweet, sweeter than the last one he got. But still, it wasn't as nice as the last one, maybe it was special, but he preferred the earlier.

The next day, Seungho returned to the dorm with a new kind of coffee in his hands, Cinnamon Dolce Latte, he said. Joon scrunched up his face at the name, how could the elder remember it? He could barely pronounce it. He asked what it was anyways, the latter explained willingly: "Espresso with steamed milk and cinnamon dolce flavored syrup. Topped with sweetened whipped cream and cinnamon dolce topping." It sounded sweet, so Joon tried it without any hesitation, sure the cream was sweet, but when he dranks the coffee he was caught off guard, that one was the most bitter the elder had brought home. The elder laughed at his reaction and apologized, saying that he purposely made it more bitter than it should be, since he thought Joon preferred bitter, he liked Hazelnut Frappucino more than Caramel Macchiato, so really, Joon can't blame him.

The next day, Seungho brought another coffee home, really, it became their habit. This time, it's Salted Caramel Mocha, when Joon was about to open his mouth to ask what that was, Seungho was one step ahead and said, "Espresso and steamed milk, blended with mocha sauce and toffee nut flavored syrup. Topped with sweetened whipped cream, caramel drizzle and a mixture of turbinado sugar and sea salt." He laughed and nodded, even though salt in coffee was weird to him, not unfamiliar (he still got salt and sugar mixed up), still weird. But when he tasted it, he loved it. Even more than the first coffee he got from the elder, but still, he preferred the first, it seemed special.

After almost a month Seungho brought home dozens and dozens of different coffees, (Americano, caffe latte, cappuccino, caramel flan latte, espresso macchiato (Joon hated that one, bitter, really bitter.), hazelnut macchiato, and everything else.) You name it, he had brought it home. But he soon gave up at giving Joon varied types of coffee, Joon would always prefer the first one he got him. He soon brought home only his favorite.

Joon didn't know whether Seungho sweetened up the coffee or he got used to the flavor, but slowly he liked the coffee more and more. Now, when he go out somewhere, he would try hazelnut lattes from different coffee shops and compare them to Seungho's. Until now, never even once did he ever find one that was better.

Months pass, eventually a year passed. And a cute sixteen years old boy joined them, Bang Cheolyong was his name, but now people know him as Mir. Joon liked him since the first time he saw him, Seungho did too, the boy was pure and just was so energetic, he was the personification of the term 'little bouncy ball of sunshine'. He was open, and wasn't afraid to say what he meant. So when he was asked what his favorite coffee was, he list a long list of cappuccinos, and ending it with, "but I prefer french fries, hyungs, If you got home from your work, please feel free to bring me free french fries." He said, ending it with a few quite annoying blinks. He became the main target of bullying soon after that, and never able to break free from that. Looking back, the reason was quite obvious. Again, months pass. A new kid arrived. Sangbae was his name.

He was a year older than Mir, so Mir wasn't that thrilled, since that meant that he won't be able to bully him easily. Right, though, Sangbae was a pushover, but not as pushover as he was. So again, Mir was bullied. Seungho now brought home the coffees with the carrier, he had to bring home 3 cups, so it was hard. Sangbae liked Cinnamon Dolces.

Around a year after Mir joined, a new guy, or hyung to Joon, arrived. He was born barely later than Seungho. One month difference. He wasn't an ordinary guy like all the others though, he had a group, but it broke up. Byenghee, or G.O now. He was annoying, but he was the strongest of everyone, so he became the main bully, when he succeed on making an alliance with one of the member, whether it be Joon, Sangbae, or even Mir, he would bully Seungho. That's why Seungho sometimes didn't bring home his iced Mocha, which only made the slightly younger bully him once again.

Around that time, Joon got an acting job in the U.S, he gonna be playing as Rain junior. He need to shave his head, and even though they were preparing for MBLAQ's debut, playing a movie with Rain wasn't a thing to miss. He agreed without any hesitation. Before he left, which was around noon, he didn't forget to stop by the coffee shop Seungho was working in and ordered a Hazelnut Frappucino. Seungho ended up sending him off that day.

A days before his schedule to comeback to Korea, he got a phone call, which was pretty rare, since the bill was pretty high. Seungho called him to inform him that Sangbae fell sick pretty badly, and he won't be joining them as MBLAQ. Jtune immediately replaced him into some guy named Sanghyun. He was from the Philippines and was the younger brother of Sandara Park of 2NE1. Seungho said that he didn't like the boy, he didn't respect him as his hyung, but even though he said that, Seungho managed to know what type of beverage he liked, hot chocolate. And Mir tried to befriend him, despite the fact that he was older than Mir. Joon himself didn't want to judge someone he never even met, but deep down, he didn't like the guy that much, he liked Sangbae, and he replaced him just like that.

But how he was wrong, when he got back to Korea and actually met the boy, he was a sweetheart. He was nice, cute, always smiling, and he trusted Joon pretty easily, he told him how he thought of leaving because of Seungho's harshness. Joon, being the one that knew Seungho the longest between the other members, adviced him a lot, saying that Seungho only says harsh thing was because of he cared a lot for the guy he was being mean to. And surprisingly, the younger believed him. They bonded quickly and Sanghyun-or now, Cheondoong- clung to him like a leech since that day, and he was the one to tell him that Mir was way younger and Mir have to respect him as a hyung.

That night, Seungho went to the dorm with again, four cups of coffee in his hands, he was excited, happy that Joon would finally be back.

After they debuted, of course Seungho stop being a barista, and Joon was having this childish feeling, wanting to go back to the times where the two of them were trainees, having many times for themselves, to talk and just drink coffee together Joon missed that. Now their free time was only filled by sleep, since they were drained from previous schedules. But they would always find time to go to the coffee shop Seungho used to work in at least once a year, and Joon would whine about how much better Seungho's coffee was.

This valentine's day, Seungho wanted to surprise his newly found crush with something he had been asking for the last five years. Seungho talked to the owner of the coffee shop and pleaded him to let Seungho booked the whole shop for a day. After a few persuasive pleads, the owner finally agreed. Seungho spent all of his noon redecorating the tiny shop, repracticing his rusty skill, after he managed to get the flavors right, he started to play with the decoration, trying different fonts to write in, different designs and everything. He had called Joon and invited him to the coffee shop at seven P.M. that day, and it was 6:55 when the alarm in his phone went off, just to make sure he didn't get carried away. He groaned and cleaned the whole place before changing into something nicer. He knew Joon would be late anyways.

Joon came through the front door and immediately gasped in awe at the beautiful dimly lit room in front of him, the fragrance of coffee beans and a hint of green tea could be smelled right away. He looked at the place where the coffee was made and discovered Seungho smiling at him, whilst his hand still busy with the coffee equipments. He told Joon to sit down and Joon obliged.

Seungho was panicking. He still have no idea how to decorate it so that Joon would get his message. He finally settled onto a small heart made by chocolate granules. He brought the coffee to Joon, the younger was about to drink the whole thing in one shot when he realized the different topping and garnish on the cream. He looked at the other questioningly. The other was blushing madly, the blush reached his ears. Seungho finally opened his mouth, he said that he liked Joon barely audibly.

"..Will you be.. My boyfriend?" He continued, Joon stared at him, he was shocked. After all these time.

"I thought you would never ask."
