Sleep

What I Desire

I stood in the middle of the river singing the song of angels. My voice was as soft as a feather floating around effortlessly. I don’t remember how long I have been in this place. It is like a cycle of life I guess. I stop singing as I heard someone walking in the water behind me and then heard the song being continued by my twin brother, Jun Hong. We looked almost identical. The only things or shall I say color that was keeping us not identical is that I had pale white skin with pale blond hair and pale light blue eyes. I was really pale to be honest like a sheet of paper. On the other hand, Jun Hong had a healthy normal skin color with darker blond hair color and darker light blue eyes. We were like winter and summer due to my cold skin and his warm skin. The lake was always quiet. There were no animals, no fishes, and no birds. There was only Jun Hong and I. This lake felt like it was cursed or something because no one could enter. “Look Zelo I can change into a cat!” I heard from below me. Jun Hong was once again goofing off but then again there was nothing better to do. “Nice what color are you?” I always paid attention but I didn’t want to look down. “Zelo look down! Please?” He yelled out with his cute voice. Like always I gave in staring down. “Black cat with blue eyes nice.” I smiled at him. “Why are you black though?” “I don’t know it just appeals to me more.” He said chasing his tail. I just laughed and enjoyed his annoying company. I always thought he would just remain a stupid innocent idiot. I don’t know how long passed but it seemed like another 100 years had passed by. We don’t age. We aren’t human but we aren’t angels, devils, or demons either. To be honest we don’t know what we are. I just hoped one day we would find out. “Hello boys.” There stood a man who was older than us but shorter than us. “I’m Kim Himchan. Nice to meet you two.” He was an angel… An eraser angel who removed memories. I can sense it. “Hello!” Jun Hong smiled and ran to hug him. “Who are you?” Unlike Junnie I kept my distance. “I am an angel sent from above to teach you two bored kids about yourselves.” He smiled. “An angel? That is awesome!” Jun Hong danced around him. “Now let’s get started shall we.” He picked up Jun Hong happily and smiled at me. After a long time we found out that there aren’t any others like us. We are a rare case or so he said. He explain to us that we are a part of everything made up in the universe. I guess that means we are part angel, devil, demon, spirit, ect… It was quite amazing what we could do and be. We can change into any shape or form we wanted. One day Himchan taught us about Humans and that subject changed Junnie forever. He became obsessed with Humans. They look just like us but cannot fly or change into anything. They can’t even breath underwater or live forever. They can’t even maintain their age. Plus they die too fast. To me they are useless. Absolutely pathetic. Then after that Himchan taught us there are two types of Humans: Pure and Impure. Pure ones have a soul that is bright and desirable. It gives us creatures greater power and makes us just simply perfect. Not that we aren’t it just makes it absolutely perfect. It can make us gods. Impure souls were good for us too but you have to collect too many of those to become god. It was just a simple waste of time or so I thought. Then he taught us the greatness of this boring lake. He says it is the place that is right between Heaven and Hell. Like that really matter I scoffed but there was more. The lake was a special place allowing only three things: Creatures of light and dark, us twins, and the pure soul humans. However all creatures stayed away because it was holy ground. They didn’t want to taint it. The fact that Junnie and I have lived here for all our lives surprised me because Himchan said things that lingered here too long would die without going to Heaven or Hell. You might as well say it is like disappearing without a trace. I started to like this Himchan more and more as much as I hated him in the beginning I stopped. He was like our father.  Jun Hong changed however. He doesn’t play with me or goof off anymore. He would just sit there in the middle of the lake lost in the thoughts of the purest Human.  However one day I was floating around I saw Himchan and Junnie talking. I was about to go and scare them but then they kissed. They kissed? After that incident I haven’t spoke to Himchan and on our birthday we sat back to back in the water. We sang the song of the angels and enjoyed it. This was that moment I missed. The old Jun Hong was back. He didn’t care about those lame Humans anymore. It was only just me and him in our lake. A few days passed and I decided to confirm the relationship of Junnie and Himchan. “Junnie what is Himchan to you?” I smiled and hugged him from behind. “You can tell me I won’t tell.” I giggled. “He is an important information book.” Junnie replied in a monotone voice. “So you don’t like him romantically at all?” I turned him around to face me. “He isn’t worth me to like. The only people I will ever love are you and the purest Human.” As he talked he sounded like the devil but smiled like an angel. That scared me but I didn’t let it show. Junnie was changing not physically but mentally. He became twisted and dark with all these plans to become god with me. We were twins that are bound to be together forever or so he told me. One day a human entered our lake. We saw how he shined. A beautiful pure soul can be seen as he heard us sing and followed our voices guiding him towards us. Soon he fell in love with the innocent Jun Hong. Of course that was all an act. Junnie only wanted his soul. That was his desire. The man’s pure soul… Junnie came to me with a plan all worked out. He would become his lover and act as if he loves him truly and I play the bad guy who kills him. I didn’t want to disappoint him so I followed his instructions. We played it out perfectly as planned and when I killed Junnie he was so heartbroken that his pure soul shoned even brighter. I was about to pretend to kill him but then Junnie yelled for me to stop as planned and I made a voice from above yell in a unknown language to the human as I ran off. “Jun Hong!” the man yelled as he reached my brother and held him in his arms. “Don’t you dare die on me.” “I love you..” Junnie whispered. “It hurts too much.” “I would do anything for you Jun Hong just don’t die on me. Please!” He cried and cried. That was one thing Junnie and I couldn’t do. Cry… It went all as planned because in the end that man got his soul token away by Junnie… We did that over and over and over. It made us stronger and stronger. I was always happy just as we were but Jun Hong wasn’t. He still looked for that person with the purest soul. It seemed like ages passed by and still the purest soul wasn’t found until that night. It was our birthday. We were once sitting back to back and singing the song of angels. Junnie felt like Junnie again and I was so happy. My smile was brighter than usual and I just had to make him stand up and face me. We smiled and I held his two warm hands in my cold ones. This was the happiest moment in my life until it was interrupted by him, the purest soul. We both were at the middle of the lake and looked at the unknown young man. He was shinning brighter than the sun. He looked like an angel from what I saw. He was the best absolute perfect human there would ever be. He dipped his feet into the water and smiled at us with that gummy smile which made my heart skip a beat. Jun Hong took his eyes off then Human and saw me blushing. “Zelo.” He said. “Zelo.” He said again in a more demanding tone which knocked me out of my day dream. “Yes.” I looked at Junnie and saw the hate in his eyes. “That human is the one.” “I know.” And I knew what would come after… His death. The purest soul came over every day as I took the form of Jun Hong that day and talked to him. “Hello Jun Hong.” He smiled that gummy smile which made me blush. “Hello Yongguk.” I smiled lovingly not knowing that Junnie was watching from a distance. This is what it feels like to be in love. My heart called out for Yongguk every time he left and missed him so much it hurt. When Yongguk was there he would take the form of Jun Hong and talk to him knowing that Yongguk would fall in love with his form more than mine. That night was a bad night as Jun Hong got mad at me. “That man is mine!” He pushed me. We never fought before so I didn’t know how to react to this. “His soul is mine!” Well so much for not knowing how to react because as soon as I thought of the disgusting murderous plan we always did to take souls away I imaged Yongguk in the same situation. I just couldn’t stand it. “I WILL NOT LET YOU TAKE HIS SOUL!” I surprised the both of us as this being the first time I yelled at him. “You will go through with the plan or else I will just kill him straight out.” Junnie no Jun Hong said as he walked off with his eyes filled with hate. This time I won’t do what he desired
