Chapter Ten; Listen to me

“You need then.”

“I don’t need .”

She caught him in a swift head lock after ducking behind him while his guard was down. He growled at the tightness and his throat closing up on him, but she held firm. He had to learn how to get out of these in a real situation, even though this was training. He caught her off guard this time when his long legs managed to kick her feet out under her and onto the ground, he ontop of her with a arm to her neck, a knee propped up to keep his weight off of her, while the other hand and knee kept her in place from doing anything. They both panted heavily from there sparing session, sweating and tired.

“Geez, get off of her will you?” called Xiumin from his sparing session with Baekhyun, who he happened to have pin to the ground with the youngers arm behind his back and hiked up.

He grinned cockily before getting up onto his feet, then helping the red head back onto her feet. “Look’s like I win there, Haru.” He smiled, wearing his white wife beater and red sweatpants, hands on his hips to ease his breathing.

She grinned, but she had her hands on her knees as she caught her breath as well. “I didn’t think you’d be so good, Kai.”

“Eh, I get that a lot.” He chuckled, Haru weakly slapped his stomach to shut himself, but he still talked on,” Just wondering, where did you learn to fight like that?”

“I was trained by these nun’s at a church a used to live by. They were worried something like demons would attack me at some point, so they trained me since I was small.”

Kai looked at her wide eyed. “That sounds like some kind of movie.”

Haru scoffed, catching her breath as she stood straight up, hands on the smalls of her back as she attempted to pop something for reveal,” This all sounds like some kind of movie.”

“Haru~!” Called Chanyeol, waving from her on the other side of the large foamed covered floor they called the,” combat room.” Where they happened to gather for lessons of hand to hand combat since weapons and powers weren’t going to save there asses all the time. Woohyun happened to lead this class since he loved anything to do with fights and anything physical. It made better sense that Sungjong taught the class since it was more up his alley, but Woohyun took it over for this year. The small muscular man happened to be standing by a wall, watching each of the young exorcists every move. Observing what they can do and the potential in them, to later on report to Sunggyu.

For today, he happened to ask them to simply spar for fun since last week he didn’t really do much but fight with Kris all day and show some techniques. Suho and Luhan happened to be sparing with each other. Xiumin and Baekhyun, Tao and Lay, Chen and Kris, Chanyeol and D.O, and Sehun and a paper familiar Woohyun happened to summon because of the odd numbers– they can change into anything you’d like as soon as you summon one, Sehun happened to ask for a Kai to punch and beat the out of.

“What?” asked Haru as she caught the water bottle Kai happened to throw at her, she happily taking the liquid down her dry  throat as Chanyeol caught up to her, his toothy grin showing.

“Do you wanna spare with me next? D.O’s a little too hard and rough at this…” he rubbed the back of his neck slyly.

“thatz what tha her big- booty holla'd~” smirked D.O from behind the younger with crossed arms over his chest.

Kai, Haru, and Chanyeol feel silent and looked at the boy with widened eyes.

“He said,” That’s what she said.”” Translated Sehun, still fighting with the papered Kai.

“Thanks.” Hollered the real one.

“Sure,” Haru agreed, Chanyeol jumped in glee.

“In another 1,000 years.”

“Dawh.”

“So, what’s this all about, again?”

“I don’t know, some, “hello, student’s. Welcome to hell, but we call it school,” assembly.”

“Suho seemed like it meant a lot, though.”

Hyori shrugged,” He takes everything seriously.”

“He’s a totally laid back guy around me.” Defended Haru.

“I guess he likes you.” Hyori smirked with her arms and legs crossed.

Haru scoffed,” Please, we barely talk.”

“Yo, I get you guys havin girl talk and all, but can you quiet down and listen to the assembly?” asked Baekhyun, who sat by Haru. D.O happened to nod in agreement who sat by the boy. Both Hyori and Haru lightly laughed it off before turning their attention back to the president of the academy, explaining what an honor it was it be in a school like this and expectations and what not.

It happened to be Friday, the day of the assembly Suho, Chen, and Luhan were all getting ready for. They said it was more of a welcome to a New Year assembly rather than a boring one you’d just through. They kept saying there would be games, pies in the face, and funny videos, but none of that ever showed yet.

Haru and Hyori happened to be sitting by each other, since throughout the week they’ve became actually close friends. Hyori explained to Haru that before the red hair girl got there, she’d been a bit of a loner, skipping class, or expelled half the time for fighting. Haru didn’t mind though, she thought of Hyori like a long lost sister in these short four days. The two happened to have about every class with each other as well, helping each other with school work and getting to classes together while fighting off the occasional group who’d mess with Haru. Krystal seemed to back off more than Hyori was around, but during math, Haru’s life was hell without her. The girl herself would easily take out someone like Krystal, but she was simply not worth it, nor was she supposed to get into any trouble.

Baekhyun and D.O happened to sit by the side Haru was on, while Sehun sat with his new group of friends behind her. Sehun, Kai, Chanyeol, and Xiumin happened to be very sociable people, already having cliques of their own and usually surrounded by them. Here and there they’d have lunch with Haru and Hyori at the usual table, but that wasn’t often. Chanyeol happened to be recruited by the basketball team, while Kai got recruited into the soccer team with Xiumin and Luhan, and Sehun got recruited into the baseball and swim team. Probably for their skills, Haru thought, they were already more an experienced in there exorcism class, then she thought fit. It wasn’t surprising that normal sports seemed like a breeze to them.

It was probably the effect of the Aria. When she first met all of them, it seemed easy to pick them off one by one, but when they got them, with exception of the seniors. They’ve gotten a bit more muscular over these two weeks. Taller, more built, it was if the steroid fairy came by and sprinkled a heavy amount on them. Not like they were freakily build, just a bit leaner than they were when she’s first seen them.

Kris happened to be with his fencing buddies again, while Tao and Lay actually went to the assembly, but somewhere out of sight all the way in the back of the auditorium. Girls literally surrounding all of them due to their looks, Haru and Hyori were shocked about how many girls tried to push them to try to sit by Sehun, D.O, and Baekhyun, but Hyori cleared the path and laid down the law.

“St. Oxford Academy is one of this nation’s best schools you can ever possibly get into,” spoke another man who Suho happened to turn the mic over too. Haru’s ears perked at the sight, her eyes lighting up. “As thanks to it, please treat one another with respect and do your absolute best in your studies….” Everything he said seemed to out one ear and through another to Haru.

Hyori noticed her swooning and elbowed her stomach,” You have hots for the vice prez or something?” she whispered.

Haru rubbed the spot Hyori happened to hit,” Vice Prez?”

“Yeah, Yoo Youngjae, Vice – president of this hell hole, a senior, and one of the schools top geniuses. He runs the student council with Suho who’s actually the president, Luhan who’s the treasure, Chen who’s the secretary, Yoona who’s like the of the council with her fake smile and Yongguk who’s like the scary security guard and make sure everyone listens or he’ll beat your ….” Hyori stopped talking when she noticed Haru wasn’t listening anymore and staring straight at the boy below. “You likkeeee him, huh?” Hyori chuckled, wiggling her penciled in eyebrows at Haru.

Haru scoffed,” No, I don’t. I just think he’s nice… Jesus, what’s with you and thinking I like everyone?”

Hyori shrugged,” Girl needs a man.”

“I don’t need a man.”

“You need then.”

“I don’t need .”

“I’m straight, Haru.”

Baekhyun bit back a laugh as he heard there conversation, as well as D.O. Haru elbowed Baekhyun before glaring at D.O.

“Whatever.” She turned her attention back to the well light and large stage. She felt a bit disappointed when the speaker changed to Luhan since she couldn’t see Youngjae anymore, but she took what she could get. Luhan was about to start his speech, but stopped when a loud screeching suddenly filled the room.

Students groaning and crying out at the loud ear piercing screech, everyone clamping their ears as hard as they could to block out as much as possible. No one moved from there seat, the noise just too painful to the ear to do anything at the moment.

“What the hell is this!?!?” yelled Hyori to Haru loud, trying to get the girl to hear.

“Beats me!” Haru yelled back.

The student council members looked at each other with ears clamped, looking at each other on what to do. The meister’s among the group pacifically. Down below, Haru could see a large man raise from his seat, moving through the rows of people and out the door to the back.

*Where the hell is Kris going?* she thought.

The screeching stopped.

The students released their ears. The room starting to fill with murmurs of questions of what that was. Baekhyun poked Haru, the girls looked at him. “Tao’s, been trying to get our attention for the past five minutes. I don’t think that screech was normal.” Baekhyun nudged his head over to Tao, who was at the end of the rows of seats with Chanyeol, Xiumin, and Lay by his side. Lay looked worried move over the others, eyeing out the window – looking for something. Or was he waiting for something?

D.O and Baekhyun made their way towards them before Haru could replay. She looked back to tell Sehun, but he was long gone as well. “Everything okay, Haru?” asked Hyori.

Haru turned towards the girl,” Y-Yeah, I think. Hey, listen to me.” Hyori nodded. “You need to leave this place as soon as you can. Go to your dorms or something, anywhere but here. Right now, the auditorium isn’t safe.”

Hyori eyed the girl. “Why is that?”

“I don’t know either, but I got a bad feeling. I can’t go with you now, but just listen to me this once and I’ll try to explain everything later, okay?” Hyori looked at the girl, uncertain, but the Haru – who’s spunky, supportive, and sarcastic – she’s gotten to know wasn’t there, this one was dead serious. With a slight nod and a bite on the lower lip,” Can I help you?”

Haru shook her head,” You just need to get out of here.” Hyori nodded, leaving through the seats of baffled students, with a worried look back at Haru – she left.

“Uhm- I think that was some technical difficulties, everyone.” Announced Youngjae. The meisters in the council seemed to disappear from the stage without an explanation to the others on where they were going. “Just please sit tight till we figure-“Youngjae was cut short as the ceiling collapsed above him. Thankfully, Yongguk tackled the two of them off stage before anyone got hurt. Students screamed and hurried out of their seats. Haru covered her eyes from the debrief of smoke and ceiling ash with her arm. The smoke cleared from the stage as the loud ear piercing screech from last time sounded.

She looked up onto the stage. Seeing a large creature – head of an eagle while the rest of a lion – its eyes scanning the rows of seats for something. It screeched again when it found it’s target.

Haru.
