Kim Soohyun lay on the cold drenched floor, trying to preserve any strength he had left. He shuddered and brought his hand to his lower stomach, warm blood oozing out of his side. He gasped for air, unsure how things had gone so wrong so quickly.
How he got to be lying in the rain, dying besides his two best friends.
Soohyun reasoned being a spy for North Korea probably wasn't the best way to avoid this outcome. But as he lay besides Kiwoong and Hyunwoo, he supposed it was the only way to go. They had always been strong fighters. They had always done what they thought was right. He guessed it was the only path they would have gone down in any other case.
He took steady breaths, hoping the pain would die down soon.
*bad pun* he scorned.

Hyunwoo watched Soohyun from where he lay, watched as he accepted his final defeat. He couldn't help but get choked up, the remorse and guilt swelling up in his chest.
He cried in an ugly manner, but he couldn't help it. The youngest of the three, the most naive and the newest one on assignment, regret was hard to ignore. He was just getting used to South Korea, just getting used to seeing Soohyun everyday. Soohyun was his friend, his companion. But more than that- Hyunwoo admired him.
He had always looked up to his superior. And even in his dying breath that would remain.
Hyunwoo, would always love him.

Kiwoong felt the most stupid of the three. When escaping, he should have recognized the traitor immediately.
But he didn't, so the guilt fell on his shoulders.
He didn't want them to die. He wanted at least them two to live.
Soohyun, his rival, and Hyunwoo, his dongsaeng, deserved that much. They had experienced the most and not experienced enough of what South Korea had to offer.
He cried, the rain mixing in with his tears. He wanted that South Korean officer to save them. What was his name- Soohyuk?- he was there somewhere right?
He wanted to go back to the days where all they did was sit on the rooftop, getting yelled at by the Ahjumma downstairs. Where they could see everyone in the village.
Where it was peaceful and calm, he wanted that back.
He had passed his auditions too. He didn't care, but he couldn't help but laugh about the irony of the entire thing.
He sobbed as he waited for blackness to engulf him.

There was no escape of death. None. But the three were lucky. Soohyun heard cease fire. Kiwoong saw the footsteps slowly walk towards him. Hyunwoo smelled the sickly sweet smell of cologne mixed in with blood.
They were lucky.

When Soohyun awoke, he was unsure where he lay. North Korea? South Korea? He wasn't sure anymore. He knew he was in a hospital, he could smell the awful familiar scent in a matter of seconds.
He noticed his comrades-no- his brothers, besides him, both in critical condition.
He sat up, observing the two quickly.
Hyunwoo. Bandages. Blood transfusion. Bullet holes to his stomach, but nothing more than that. Kiwoong. Lung peirced, and slight coma from when he hit his head from impact.
Soohyun cringed and brought his hand to his head. Lucky miss. A bullet grazed his head and 4 bullets had gone through chest.
Yet he survived.
A voice loomed over him, deep and authroative. "You're lucky. All of you."
Soohyun looked up, tense. It was him. The South Korean. Seo Soohyuk.
So they were in South Korea after all.
He lay back down, weak.
"Finally awake I see...they should be up soon too then," Seo Soohyuk looked at the others.
"Lt. Kim Soohyun. 5446 corps. Speaks 5 languages, and joined the NK Army to protect his mother...You were rescued by me and shot by my men-sorry about that- two days ago outside Ganseong-eup, SK. We captured Kim Taewon and you are now in my custody alongside Park Kiwoong and Lee Hyunwoo."
Soohyun was silent.
"I'm sure you're wondering why you're here. Why you're not dead, and why you're not in prison."
Soohyun's eyes flickered towards his companions. If this man already knew what he was thinking- not that he'd ever admit it -why didn't he just give him the answers he was looking for?
He continued, as if reading Soohyun's thoughts. "It's because I'm here to offer you a fresh start. Because of you, we captured Taewon. We discovered he was the one who ordered the 30 NK spies located here to commit suicide, in hopes of preventing peaceful negotions between our two countries. South Korea planned on sparing you, if you negotiate with us that is...this of course requires you to defect."
"With that said...I'd like to give you an offer."

Returning back to the village wasn't simple.
Soohyun, Kiwoong, and Hyunwoo had survived. With a cost.
After coming to the realization that everything they had worked to protect in North Korea had already been lost, they came to the mutual conclusion to stay in the South with their new family, where they belonged.
Of course, that required multiple things.
1. Their previous undercover mission would remain, more or less the same.
2. They would be kept in check by Seo Soohyuk every month, and become spies for South Korea.
3. Defect from the North.
Three simple rules was all it took for them to be together once more. Of course, betraying their country wasn't easy. Not at all. Eventually they learned to accept their 'glorious country,' was not all what it seemed to be, and lived a peaceful life in the South.
The three recovered, and every so often they would be called in for other South Korean missions, hopefully to reunite the North and South one day soon.
Hyunwoo, the youngest spy in the nation's history, remained part time high school student, while working at Ahjumma's small store down the street. He and his friend, Cho Nabi, would be seen laughing together as they walked back from school to the village.
Kiwoong attended his audition and became a kpop idol (a soloist), also part time South Korean spy. How he managed to keep both his spy and celebrity life a secret is unknown. He had an idol girlfriend whom he loved dearly, Kim Dahae. He was planning on proposing soon, whenever that would be.
Soohyun remained the Ahjumma's son, but left behind the 'idiot' role, trading it in for South Korea's most intellegent and Top Ranking undercover agent. He met Park Miyoung, a girl that worked within the agency (and knew his true nature) and fell in love too.
Yet the three still found time to be together everyonce in awhile after missions, school, and year long tours.
They met up once a month on the same roof where they met, living a new life and a new name. Soohyun reasoned, this path was better than the one before.
