Auditions: Taeyeon

Beautiful Stranger

“Without practice, how do you think you’ll ever make it?” Her father scolded the poor little girl who’d just told him she wanted to be a singer. “Music will get you nowhere, money and business is what will set you up for greatness, Taeyeon. Do you understand me?” The man couldn’t help but be strict, he only wanted the best for his little girl, just like all parents. Unfortunately, not all kids quite get that and the protest and disagreement her father was giving her only upset the young girl.

“Daddy, you don’t understand though! I love music and it’s only thing I want to do when I get old—“ Her father cut her off by slamming his hand onto the nearby table. The innocent flowers and lamp jumping and almost falling off the surface from impact. Taeyeon jumped as a result of the loud booming sound the slam made, her already frowning face starting to tremble.

“Go to your room, Taeyeon. You will not go to that audition and waste your life away to something so pointless as to read words with a good tone. That is final and the end of this discussion.” She had no choice but to cooperate and retreat to her room. Red eyes threatened to let droplets drip from them even upon strong restrain. Being shut down without a chance from her father hurt her badly, especially only because she was 14.

Face down in her bedroom pillow now, she could only weep silently to herself. The hug on the white fluffy objecting becoming tighter as she tried to stay consoled. No friends to talk to when upset, no family members to call and complain to. Alone, she felt alone and on her own. The young girl turned over on her back once her tears ran out and stared up at her white ceiling with blue stars scattered over the area. “I need to do this. It’s what I dream of. I need to.” She said with strong determination.

Headstrong was a good trait, she’d gotten her older brother to keep shut and take her to the auditions that were held the next day. Nervously, she played with the ends of her hair, trying to make herself look ‘presentable’. Fingers were combing through the brown mane that curled only slightly up around her shoulders. Light blue shirt, bringing out the extremeness of chocolate in her eyes, adding a touch of sparkle and life to her. Once her name was called she stood up slowly and walked leisurely into the somewhat small room.

Her piece was short, sweet and short. Her radiant smile lighting up the room as if it were the sun lighting the Earth and its people. The judges were all mesmerized by the cute and adorable charm she gave off just by singing. While looking on and evaluating they notice key points in her performance. Some continue to watch and others look down to write notes. In the middle of her song her voice goes quiet. The next words wanting to leave her tongue but kept stuck at the edge of her mind. She forgot he words.

Still through it all, her smile never faded and neither did her hope.

Only days later did they call her number back with the news of a comeback. In which they would interview her and see how she is in personality, since she already passed the talent portion of the entertainment company. Now, usually she was one to hate running, but this was something she couldn’t help but get excited for. Taeyeon went sprinting down the hall of her house to her brother’s room to tell him the good news.

“Oppa! Oppa! I got the auditions, I did it!” She shouted before she could even open the door. Not realizing how loud she was she burst into the room, her dad standing over her brother and not looking particularly happy. Her face dropped and she gulped when her father turned to her with a disappointed look on his face. Silence rang through the household as eyes were locked on others, it was a moment no one wants to be in.

She’d deliberately disobeyed her father and now it was coming back to bite her in the . Father was furious about this, and also confused. Only then did he realize the intensity of her hopes and dreams. While being upset she ignored his orders, he also knew that she had to have a very strong drive in order for her to have to do something like this. Taeyeon was always a good girl, this was only one of the few times she did something against the rules. He had to give her the benefit of the doubt.

“Dad, before you say anything let me speak!” She thought she’d try and calm him down before he starts yelling at her. A million things ran through her head but none of them seemed to be able to makes themselves heard. At a loss for words, became dry. It was almost as if she were auditioning again, but this time it was to get her dad’s blessing. After clearing she stood up straight and looked her father directly into his eyes. “Father, I know I disobeyed you, but this is my passion. I got callbacks, which means they interview me and if they like me, I can be that much closer to my goal.”

He didn’t need to listen to her, he’d already made up his mind. Hand held up high and in front of him to tell his daughter to stop talking. It would only be a waste of her breath anyways. Taeyeon’s breath hitched as she saw him stepping closer. There was worry and fear written over her face, this was by far the most she’s ever broken the rules. He took a deep breath and laid his hand on her shoulder. “Taeyeon, go to sleep early tonight, you have an interview to be ready for.” Those were the last words he’d said to her that night, going to his room and not leaving until morning.

“Alright, thank you, Ms. Kim.” The lady sitting to the side of her said after they’d been talking for well over an hour. Many of the questions being what she did in her free time, how she came to like singing. Things about her personally and about her new career she was going after. The lady reached out to shake Taeyeon’s hand and smiles genuinely to her. “Your room is on the fifth floor of the building next to SM.” As soon as she heard this, Taeyeon wanted to jump out of her seat and scream. Luckily, she was able to console herself and wait for further instruction. “You’ll be staying with two other people once we’ve cleared auditions, ok?”

Not being able to speak she nodded her head excitedly. Had she opened the only thing coming out of it would’ve been a scream. Taeyeon stood immediately and bowed to everyone in the room multiple times before she ran out into the hall where her brother and father were waiting anxiously.

“I’m so glad we packed just in case.”
