“Hyukjae! Lee Hyukjae! Where the are you? Guess who I just saw? You won’t ing believe it! Lee Hyukjaeeeeee!”

Hyukjae slid out from under a yellow Maserati with a frown on his face. There was a streak of black oil smudged across his left cheek and his entire face was covered in a light sheen of sweat.

“What is it, Kyu? I’m busy,” Hyukjae said to the man who’d just rushed into the workshop looking like he was bursting from the news he was about to spill. The senior mechanic got up from his creeper and reached for his bottle of water nearby before chugging it up. “ this bloody hot weather.”

“The weather might not be the only one getting ed,” Kyuhyun said grimly. “I saw Donghae hyung!”

Hyukjae’s eye twitched slightly. He nodded and said, “Okay, so you saw my boyfriend. And? It’s not like you’ve never seen him before. He brought pizza for everyone here once.”

“That’s not my point. Aren’t you gonna ask me where I saw him?” Kyuhyun asked with a roll of his eyes.

The mechanic figured that Kyuhyun wouldn’t leave him alone until he fished the whole gossip story out of his mouth. Hyukjae sighed and gave the Maserati a little pat. “Guess I’m gonna have to continue working on you after lunch.”

“Yah, Lee Hyukjae! I’m still talking to you.”

“And I’m gonna tell Leeteuk hyung that you’re not letting me finish my tasks on time,” Hyukjae said, taking off his gloves and putting them aside. Kyuhyun just shrugged and kept looking at him expectantly.

Hyukjae chuckled mentally before speaking. “Yes, Cho Kyuhyun. Where did you see Donghae, and why is it such a big deal?”

“It’s Valentine’s Day today!”

“I’m not wishing you a happy Valentine’s because I know you’re single as .”

“ you,” Kyuhyun said with a frown. “Don’t change the topic.”

“Yep. Okay. Donghae. What about him?” Hyukjae asked, raising an eyebrow.

Kyuhyun folded his arms across his chest and asked, “Isn’t he working as a bank manager?”

“Yeah?”

“And isn’t his branch located on the other side of town?”

“Correct, and?”

Kyuhyun drew his lips in a thin line and said in the utmost serious voice, “I think I saw Donghae hyung on a date with another man just now!”

“Another man?” Hyukjae echoed. 

Something flickered in his eyes, albeit so briefly that Kyuhyun couldn’t tell what it was. But the one thing Kyuhyun was sure of was that Hyukjae’s mood definitely shifted. Maybe it was disbelief, maybe it was anger, he didn’t know.

Kyuhyun’s natural instinct was to fan the fire since he always loved a big, fat, juicy piece of gossip. And drama. But Hyukjae was his favourite hyung, (though it might just be because Donghae was also his very handsome boyfriend,) and even if the truth would hurt him, Kyuhyun didn’t think it was fair to keep this news to himself. Hyukjae deserved to know.

Hyukjae looked at Kyuhyun’s serious expression and inhaled deeply. “Where did you see them?”

“Just around the corner down that road. You know, your favourite dessert shop?” Kyuhyun blurted. “You said Donghae hyung doesn’t even like sweet things, but he looked mighty happy talking to this other man. Maybe they were holding hands. They also shared the same cake and I’m pretty sure the man even tried feeding Donghae hyung!”

“Oh? What did that man look like?” Hyukjae asked softly, grabbing some wet tissues to clean up his face and hands. “Are they still there? Maybe I should go there and see for myself.”

“Where are you going?” Kyuhyun watched as Hyukjae went to his locker. “Are you going to crash on their date?”

“Well, you haven’t told me what the other man looked like,” the senior mechanic said. He stopped rummaging for his wallet in his locker and turned around to face the anxious Kyuhyun. “It’s not exactly considered crashing on their ‘date’ if I’m the legitimate boyfriend, right?”

“You’re really going there?” Kyuhyun asked in shock. “But I think Donghae hyung—”

“Coming with me?”

Kyuhyun stopped short. “W-What?”

Hyukjae gave Kyuhyun a half-smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “Do you want to come with me to confront them?”

The younger mechanic suddenly looked rather uncomfortable. “I-I didn’t mean that Donghae hyung was cheating on you or anything. It’s just…”

“If you’re not coming with me, then I’m going by myself.” Hyukjae then grabbed his phone, keys, and wallet, and headed for the entrance. “If Leeteuk hyung asks you where I am, just tell him I’m taking my lunch break a little earlier today.”

“Hyukjae! You can’t go there now, Donghae hyung and his date might have already left,” Kyuhyun said, grabbing Hyukjae’s arm and holding him back. Suddenly, he regretted breaking the news to Hyukjae. “The man he was seeing looked tall and strong. You wouldn’t stand a chance fighting against him!”

“Then what am I supposed to do? Pretend I didn’t hear anything you said while he happily goes on a date with other men behind my back? On Valentine’s day?” There was a deep, exaggerated frown etched on Hyukjae’s face now. “To think I even ordered a bouquet of his favourite flowers for him at the bank, too!”

Kyuhyun looked at Hyukjae and bit his lips. When would he ever learn to keep his big mouth shut? He didn’t like to think that Donghae hyung might be cheating on Hyukjae in broad daylight, and so near Hyukjae’s auto body shop too. What if it was just somebody else at the shop who happened to look like Donghae?

Donghae hyung was definitely a lot smarter than this— after all, if Kyuhyun wanted to cheat on someone, he wouldn’t pick their favourite dessert shop to meet someone else. But if Donghae hyung really was seeing someone else behind Hyukjae’s back… then Hyukjae had the right to know too, right?

Right?

Still, something about Hyukjae was off. The senior mechanic looked oddly calm about the whole thing despite sounding upset
