He was [ A broken love story ]
Everyone has their first love; and they meet them at different time in their life. Some people have their ' Highschool sweethearts' , some might meet in college, or even by chance at a starbucks, accidently reaching for the same ordered drink. However, that's not my story. My name is Aubry Grey Kenté. I'm 23 years old,and I'm still caught up on my eighth grade love. What makes this situation really pitiful, is that it's unrequited, and for the last 7 years that I've known him, we've exchanged less than 100 words; and this is all due to my innate ability to talk to men that I think are attractive. It all started in eighth grade. •Flashback• " Good Morning class ! " My homeroom teacher brightly chirped, "Today we have a new student, why don't you tell us a little about yourself?" Mrs. Waugh said turning to the new student. I ripped my eyes off the dance video I was previously watching, to accidently lock eyes with the new student. Unconsciously my jaw slightly dropped, my even breathing hitched, and my heart temporarily forgot how to beat. " Hello, my name's Jay Park. I just moved to London from America," Even if he hadn't mentioned he was from America, it was bloody obvious; his words were spoken with a thick accent. His built frame towered over Mrs. Waugh, and majority of our class, he must have been nearly 6 feet tall. "Hi," Jay said as he took the empty seat next to me. "H- H-Hi," I stuttered out, praying my tan skin was concealing the blush I felt creeping up on my cheeks. •End of Flashback • My small encounters with Jay didn't stop there. We had a lot of classes together, and even managed to be accepted to the same Performing Arts High School for dancing. There, we once again, had majority of our classes together. Everyday, I gave myself a pep talk, trying to get up the courage to talk to him. I worked up a whole speech in my head, and everyday, I failed. •Flashback• *Brrrrrriiing!* The bell rang, indicating it was time for lunch. "Hey Jay, I have to go meet up with my girl friend , I'll meet up with you at the commons, " Laith, Jay's best friend said, while he rushed out of the room with a gigantic smile plastered across his slightly blemished tan skin; leaving Jay and I, alone. 'Okay, you can do it ! Talk to him!' I said to myself in my head. "H-H-Hi Jay," I said in a small barely audible voice, closer to a mumble or gibberish, then any dignified language. "Oh, did you say something?" Jay asked me. I just stood there, trying to etch his voice deep into my memory. "Uhh… Aubry?" There he goes again, making my heart skip beats and having me suffer from advance dementia, so that I can barely remember how to communicate with my words. "Oh, n-no, I didn't say anything," "O-oh, well have a nice lunch then !" Jay baid me a farewell as he walked out of the room. "I just talked to Jay…" I whispered to no one, as a smile spread across my face. "I just talked to Jay…" My smile grew brighter. •End of Flashback• Almost every one of our encounters went like this. I'd curse myself for not fulfilling my goal, then remembrances of his voice speaking to me, would melt away any negative feelings. Graduation day was bittersweet. After 13 years, I was free with demanded school. However, I would also be leaving Jay behind. I had been terribly lucky having so many opportunities to be with him, even if we spent that time in silence. The chances of us going to the same college and having same course, was very minimal •Flashback• "Whew," I blew all the air out of my cheeks as I stared at my reflection in the school bathroom mirror. Large perfectly lined light brown eyes with long thick eyelashes were staring back at me. Due to the special occasion I straightened my dark brown-almost-black hair, that now reaches low mid back. My hair contrasted against the off white satin cap and gown, that always made my already tan skin glow. Moments before the ceremony started, I took my seat. Almost instantly, by accident, my eyes zeroed in on Jay, sitting a few rows ahead of me, slightly to the left. My eyes never left him. I watched him walk across the stage, accepting his diploma. Knowing this was the last day I'd see him. "Aubry Grey Kenté, " The principal said, dragging me back into reality. I walked across the stage to accept my diploma, hearing the crowd clap and cheer, " WOOO THAT'S MY BABY!" , "GO COUSIN !" " PRATTPRATTPRATT!", as expected, I could hear my loud family over the mass crowd. • End of Flashback• High School ended 5 years ago. Since then I haven't seen or heard about Jay once. The only time I get to see, and talk with him is in my dreams, sad right ? I went to College on a dance scholarship, where I met my new best friend, Taylor Madison who is originally from America. In our sophomore year, we got picked up as temps and fill-ins at JYP Ent. Working in the dance department. Taylor now works in the recruitment section, and I work as a choreographer. "Aubry !" Taylor screeched, gleefully bounding towards me, her hazel eyes wide, and her long blonde hair swaying wildly with her ecstatic steps. "Aubry guess what !" "What?" I answered , slightly giggling. Even if she has lived here since she was 14, her accent became exceptionally thick when she was excited. " I just found the BEST bloody new recruit ! His dance is FLAWLESS! And he's originally from America too ! He's so good JYP is going to put him in gala this year ! After only one interview !" Taylor spoke out, taking a deep breathe after the long run she just said. "Taylor that's amazing ! Who is it? " "Well his name is J-, " " Aubry !" JYP C.E.O called out to me, cutting Taylor off mid sentence. "Yes, sir ?" I answered him, giving him my full attention. " The rookies for this years gala are waiting in your studio, hurry and go greet them, you only have a month to work with them. Dismissed," He said before greeting Taylor and going on his way down the large creme hallway. Every Year JYP hosts a talent gala, showcasing his best entertainers, but he only gives them one month to prepare for it. I walked down the hall to my studio, seeing my name printed on the doors plaque, I I firmly gripped the handle, "Hello rookies ! Congrats on being chosen for the gala !" I greeted as I walked through the door. A chorus of ' Hellos' from the six guys standing before me echoed through the room. "Well let's start with the introductions !" One by one they all introduced themselves. After the last introduction, I realized there was only six guys, when I was earlier told there would be seven. Right before I asked if they knew where the mysterious seventh rookie was, he opened the door. "Miss Kenté ! I'm so sorry I'm late ! I didn't realize how big the building was…and I got kinda lost …" He said as he rubbed the back of his neck. He , however, didn't need a introduction, because I’d recognize that voice anywhere. "I'm Jay Park, Miss Kenté , once again I'm really sor-, " he started, then once he raised his eyes to meet mine, his eyes lit up and a simple smile of recognition crossed over his face, leaving my heart to miss a beat. "Aubry? You're the choreographer?" After 5 years, here was Jay, the person who effortlessly and unknowingly had me jocking since I was 14, standing in front of me. • 3 years later• " Aubry !" Jay sputtered out, while running towards me smiling holding his arms out. "Baby! I missed you sooo much !" Jay said dramatically, even though he saw me this morning, when we went for breakfast. However I couldn't contain the giggle knowing my boyfriend was so excited to see me again. "Jay !" I shrieked as he lifted me and spun around in the middle of the hall. Ever since we first met again to choreograph the Gala dance, we've been inseparable. Its our 3 year anniversary today. "Baby I have a big surprise for you this year !" Jay said in between giving me quick pecks all over my face. "What is it ?" I asked curiously "I'll see you later baby, " he cooed, while slipping a piece of folded paper into my hand, "Wear something really nice ! I'll see you tonight !" He said as he turned around running down the hall to his own studio. I hurried down stairs to the lobby where Taylor was waiting for me, so we could go scoutt new recruits for the company. •Later that night• "Aubry you look absolutely amazing !" Taylor said as she looked me up and down. After work she came over to help me get ready for my big dinner with Jay. I looked at myself in the full length mirror. Taylor helped me pick out a fitted 3/4 sleeve,Scoop neck black dress that landed right above my knee, that was now slightly damp at the shoulders, because of my wet curly hair that reached mid back. *Buzz* The doorbell rang, meaning Jay was finally here. “Knock em dead !” Taylor said while slapping me on the and pushing me out the door. “Wow, you look beautiful babe, “ Jay said, planting a kiss on my right cheek. “Let’s go ! I’m starving, “ I said while he intertwined our hands together. We took Jay’s black BMW to a fancy restaurant in the Four Seasons Hotel. After an hour and a half, we were walking out of the restaurant. Jay held a firm grip on my hand as we walked towards a nearly empty park a few blocks away. Soon we were in the center of the park, standing near a giant water fountain, with water spraying out, with white lights under it. It was still early summer, so the flowers and trees were still in bloom, making the scene look gorgeous against the dark navy sky. “Baby, listen it’s our song,” Jay whispered, as he pulled me close to him, wrapping his arms around me and started to sway back and forth to the music. I was so focused on the beauty of where i was, I didn't pay attention, that “So High” by John Legend was playing in the background. I encircled my arms around his neck, and buried my face into his neck, breathing his soothing scent in. “It’s really interesting, “ Jay Said softly “What is?” i questioned “This. How we’re all dressed up, dancing to this song, in a beautiful place,” I smiled remembering what had happened 3 years earlier, when he asked me to dance, and to be his girlfriend. “This day and that one has so much in common, I asked you an important question then, and i’m asking you one now,” “ Jay what are you sa-” He pressed his finger to my lips, signalling me to be quiet. He took a step back and looked me in the eyes. “Aubry, I’m so nervous right now, “ he said shakily before letting out a slight chuckle. “Aubry, since I first talked to you when i moved here, I knew you were different, “ By now i was in utter shock. Jay like me even then? why didn't he say anything? “ I was so devastated to know that we probably wouldn’t meet again after graduation, so i was so happy to find out that you were my assigned choreographer at JYP,” He missed me too? “ Aubry, I love you, “ Jay said as he bent down to get on one knee “I love you too, “ I said back quickly as a reflex in a shaky voice; Jay just smiled . “Aubry Grey Kente, Will you mar-” Jay’s words were cut off by a loud buzzing noise. What was that? Jay just looked at me with hopeful eyes as he opened his mouth to restate the question. “ Aubry Grey Kente, Will you marry m-” once again his words were cut off by a buzzing noise. I stared at him, puzzled. How does this keep happening? “ AUBRY!” Jay yelled, but this time, it wasn’t his voice, it was... Taylors? “ Jay?” “ AUBRY!” once again, it looked like jay, but it was Taylor's voice. ~~~~~~ Water splashed on my face, as I shot straight up, eyes wide, trying to figure out what just happened. “God Aubry! It’s easier to wake the dead then you !” Taylor said, obviously slightly annoyed. “ The new rookies for this years gala are waiting for you in your studio, including the new one from America. Oh God Aubry, I can’t believe you passed out after seeing that new rookie ! What was his name? Jay?” Taylor said while grabbing my arm, and pulling me off the lavish couch i was sleeping on, and out of the rest room for employees. “Get yourself together Kente !” Taylor called out as she started walking in the opposite direction.
