Tao looked at the outside by the window.

He saw there were many people smiling happily. It was not weird if people smiling and grinning like idiots now because tomorrow is Christmas Day.

Tao stared at his own reflection on the window’s glass. He wasn’t smiling like them.

A long sigh escaped from his mouth. Smiling is not a must, so it’s not a crime if I don’t smile. Plus, there’s no happy things will happen tomorrow. Tao thought.

“Kris,” He unconsciously called the name.

Tao’s eyes which were widened for a while, closed. He let drops of his tears flowed down on his rosy cheeks and then splashed on the ground.

The incident that happened a year ago played in his mind like a video.

Flashback

“Tao,”

The said guy lifted his head. His lips curled up into a smile as he said the other’s name. “Kris,”

Kris took a seat in front of Tao without been allowed. He didn’t need it anyway. It was not like Tao will scold him for being impolite. Tao loved him… or so he thought.

“Tao, do you… hate me?” Kris asked slowly.

The younger raised his eyebrows. He played with the holder of a cup of coffee that he ordered a while ago. “What do you mean, Kris?”

Kris hung his head low. He fidgeted his napkin on his laps nervously. “You wouldn’t hate me, right?” He asked again.

Tao huffs a bit too loud. “What do you want to say actually, Wu Yifan?” He raised his voice. The tense between them was getting on his nerve. Kris kept giving him clues he didn’t understand, caused Tao who is a person with less patience lost it.

“I- I-” Kris, being an always nervous and panic person he is, stuttered. He wanted to say it those three words, but he can’t, as if rocks were in his throat. He knew when Tao used his real name, that’s mean Tao was dying to know and that only make Kris more nervous.

“I- I lo-” The oldest amongst them two cleared his throat before said those 3 words that will make him cry. “I- I lo- love you.”

When he didn’t get any response, Kris braced up himself to lift his head and stare at Tao’s dark obs.

“I- I love you.” Kris didn’t know where he got enough courage to say them again, but for sure, Kris liked it. He wanted Tao to know he really loved him; he’s not playing around. And he wanted Tao to know how much he loved him. It didn’t matter if his throat will get dry for saying them many times. At least, Tao knew.

“I love you, Huang Zitao.” Kris’ voice sounded firm, which was very rare to hear. “Tao,” He called when he still didn’t get any response. “Tao, I-“

“Shut up.” Tao growled. “Shut the in’ up your filthy mouth, you disgusting creature!” He started to shout. Tao pointed towards Kris with his index finger. “You…!”

He inhaled before shouted as loud as he can. “I hate you, Kris! You’re not my friend anymore! I don’t have a disgusting friend like you! I don’t know a person named Wu Yifan!” With that, he ran away from the table, but fortunately, Kris quickly gripped his arm.

“Tao, y-you don’t mean that, right?” Kris gulped although there’s nothing to swallow. “Tao, you don’t h-hate me, right?”

Tao turned his head, to face Kris. He didn’t say anything, but by the way those red puffy eyes eyed him, Kris knew what the answer is.

Slowly, the grip on Tao’s arm loosened, letting Tao ran as fast as he can without turning back even once.
