Predictable.

In a world full of changes, constants were the only thing that kept her sane. Mama was constant, as fickle as she is. Papa was constant, no matter the fact that he was the one that made them move even before they had a chance to settle down. Daniel, though, was the anchor in Riley’s life. Her brother, her only friend, her lifeline. The most important constant. He was almost 10 years older than she was, but he adored so much, doting on her, teasing her until she cried, being there when she needed him.. until he left, and Riley lost her anchor. Daniel called, texted her almost every day, came home whenever he could, but the fact that he took off to chase his dream as soon as Mama let him made her feel as if he’d betrayed her. He was still the same old caring brother who loved to despite him being a continent apart, but she changed. Sure, she was there, but she was floating, letting herself be pushed by the wind, turning introverted, except to Daniel. Occasionally she would have friends, but there was never enough time to get closer, so she stopped trying to make friends, and kept to herself. Then she found solace in writing, and started to make up her own worlds, happier places; places she would never be able to go. Books had always been her companion, but now pencils and papers made up most of her life.

Then one day, ten years later, he came back.
No. They came to him. Daniel convinced Mama and Papa to come to Korea and stay, enticing Mama to come back to her roots even though she was more American than even Papa. But then again, she’s always had a soft spot for him.

So they’re finally settling down, after years of moving. Secretly, she thought that Daniel tried so hard to convince their parents to stay was because of her. He was the only one who knew how much she hated moving, never being able to have a place to really call home.

It was going to be different, but they were going to stay. Finally, she had a place to call home.
