Sweet Christmas

Sweet Christmas - Oneshot

“Yes Mom.” Yoon Eun Hye answered her mom, who she had on the phone with her while walking around the strip mall.

It has been a while since she returned home. She saw Christmas decorations everywhere and she could hear Christmas songs being played all around the mall.

“Eun Hye dear…are you listening? You do know that the wedding is this weekend right? Do you even have a da…”

Eun Hye interrupted her mom while she walked inside the bakery shop named ‘Sweet Moments.’

“Mom, I know… and I will be there as promised.” Eun Hye sighed as she continued to browse inside the shop.

“That’s good dear. Now, do you have a date yet? Because you know Diana, do you remember her, dear?” Her mom paused for a second. “Anyway, her son is back home. From what I heard he started his business here.”

“Uh-huh.” Yoon Eun Hye walked towards another display counter to see the other sweets they had. She bent down to check out the beautifully designed cakes and colorful, mouthwatering cookies that made her crave for them.

“Yoon Eun Hye!” Her mom called. “Are you still listening to me, young lady?!”

Eun Hye rolled her eyes and sighed again as she stood up. “Yes mom, I’m still listening.”

“Well, you haven’t answered my question.” Her mom sounded suspicious.

A man in a pastry chef uniform walked up in front of Eun Hye.

“Hello, Welcome to Sweet Moments. Can I help you with anything?”

“Uhmm…” Eun Hye was still undecided. She looked at the handsome man in front of her and signaled the guy to give her a moment while she smiled apologetically.

“Mom, I need to go.”

“But honey, you still haven’t told me if you have a date…”

Eun Hye closed her eyes to calm down. She just wanted to hit her head on the wall whenever her mom started to be pushy.

“Yes mom. I already have a date.” Eun Hye lied then looked up at the ceiling silently asking for forgiveness.

“Oh! That’s wonderful honey! Do I know the young man?”

“Mom, really. I have to go. Someone’s waiting for me. I’ll talk to you about it when I get home.”

“Okay dear. I can’t wait to meet your man.”

Eun Hye started to massage her temple. “Yes mom. Gotta go. Love you!” She pressed ‘end’ without waiting to hear her mom’s last words on the phone.

“Is everything alright?”

Eun Hye jumped a little before turning around to face the guy who greeted her earlier.

“Hi…and yes. Everything’s alright.” She looked around the shop again and then back to the man in front of her. She looked at him this time from head to toe.

“Are you by any chance the pastry chef here?”

The man smiled. “Yes I am. My name is Jong Hyun.”

“So you own the shop?” She started walking around really soaking in the shop's mouthwatering fragrance.

“Well, I am one of two. I have a business partner.” He shared as he turned his head at the direction of another handsome man in a well-fitted suit. “That’s Yong Hwa.”

“I see.” Before she could say anything more she was interrupted by the pastry chef’s business partner.

“Jong Hyun.” The guy in the business suit walked up to them.

“Yeah?” Jong Hyun turned his body to his friend.

“I need to talk to you.” He paused as he looked at Eun Hye.

It seemed like Jong Hyun picked up the hint his friend was saying.

Jong Hyun turned around and faced her once again with an apologetic smile.

“I’m sorry to cut our chat short. It seems like I’m needed somewhere.”

Eun Hye waved her hand in front of her. “Oh no worries. Go ahead…I’ll just look around and see what you have displayed here.”

“Thank you. Do let me know if you pick out anything from our cakes.”

“I will. Thank you.” Eun Hye smiled and then turned her attention back to the assortment of cakes in front of her.

Yong Hwa just got off the phone with their ‘supposedly’ photographer. He was just informed that she was hired by someone else and flew her in Japan. He knew that was not the only reason she left. Now they didn’t have any photographer for the shoot they will have tomorrow for their project.

This girl was semi-famous around their circle and when she heard that he was looking for a photographer a month ago she volunteered herself. But the day before yesterday she started to come on to him and he flat out rejected her. He didn’t like to mix work and personal life.

He turned around to find his friend and his business partner to tell him the bad news. He saw him talking to some pretty girl.

“This is not the time to be flirting around.” He mumbled to himself as he walked towards his friend.

“Jong Hyun.” He called out.

“Yeah?”

He looked at the girl in front of him and then back to his friend. “I need to talk to you.”

His friend noticed that something was up. He turned around and spoke with the girl before following him on the other side of the shop.

“What’s going on?” His friend asked him with a worried look on his face.

“Our photographer bailed out on us.” Yong Hwa informed him, obviously pissed off at the current situation they were in.

“What?!” Jong Hyun barked. “Just what the freaking thing happened?!”

Yong Hwa looked away from his friend trying to think of better words to explain as to what really transpired.

“Wait…don’t tell me.” Jong Hyun said in frustration while he started pacing around.

“You said something to her.”

Yong Hwa closed his eyes to calm down before answering. “Yeah, I said something to her.”

Jong Hyun started to massage his temple as he could feel a headache about to hit him.

“What did you do this time?”

“Look, she came on to me and I wasn’t interested.” Yong Hwa explained himself vehemently.

“So you rejected her?” His friend sighed. “When did this all happen?”

“Yesterday.”

His friend was obviously angry. “What are we going to do now? The photoshoot is tomorrow. I already have the ingredients all prep and ready to go.”

His friend walked away from him towards the back counter. He knew his friend was trying to think of how to salvage this project of theirs.

Yong Hwa followed his friend. “Maybe we can find another photographer.”

“This late?” His friend glared at him apparently still mad at him.

“We can try.”

“C’mon Yong Hwa! Be real. There’s no photographer available for this last minute project. Remember? It’s for tomorrow already. Plus, it’s the holiday season.” His friend said in annoyance.

Yong Hwa knew he really screwed up this time.

“Excuse me…” A soft gentle voice interrupted the tense atmosphere between the two friends.

Yong Hwa was the first one to react. “What?!” He snapped.

Eun Hye was trying to choose which cake she wanted to try from the display cases since there were too many to choose from. She actually had it down to four cakes: Coffee Cake, Mango Cake, Taro Cake, and Mocha Cake.

She was about to order when she heard the pastry chef and his business partner in the middle of an argument.

She couldn’t help but listen to their conversation especially after she heard something about a photographer bailing out.

From what she learned from her eavesdropping they needed one badly. She looked at the two men at the corner of her eyes and she thought of something.

“Excuse me…” Eun Hye walked up slowly towards them.

The guy in a suit snapped at her. “What?!”

She didn’t flinch. In fact she looked more amused than scared.

“Yong Hwa!” The pastry chef yelled at his friend before turning his attention to her.

“I apologized for his behavior.” The pastry chef bowed apologetically. “Are you ready to check-out?

Eun Hye noticed Yong Hwa, the partner, glaring at her for interrupting their conversation. She glared back at him which surprised him before she turned her attention to the nicer partner, the pastry chef, Jong Hyun.

“Well, actually…I couldn’t help but hear your conversation earlier.”

“You mean you couldn’t help to eavesdrop.” Yong Hwa pointed out sarcastically.

Eun Hye looked at him. “Right now I’m talking to your partner and not to you. So piss off.”

Both Jong Hyun and Yong Hwa were taken aback at her last words.

“Anyway…” Eun Hye turned her attention back to the Pastry Chef. “I’ll be direct to the point. I heard you need a photographer.”

“Yeah? So?” Yong Hwa couldn’t help badger the girl who totally ignored his existence.

His friend noticed this. “Yes, we do need a photographer.”

“How bad do you need a photographer?”

“Really bad.” Jong Hyun answered honestly.

“Why? Do you know anyone who can help us this late?” Yong Hwa stepped closer to her.

“What if I say yes?” Eun Hye examined both of them.

“We will be greatly at your debt if you give us the name of this person.” Jong Hyun moved closer to her.

“Then I have a proposition to you.” Eun Hye pulled out her card from her purse and handed it to the Pastry Chef.

“Yoon Eun Hye…” Jong Hyun read out loud. Then his eyes almost popped out from its socket. “The Yoon Eun Hye from YEH’s Photography?!”

Eun Hye smiled. “The one and only.”

“Wait… we tried to contact your agency, but they said that YEH is out on vacation and would not take any projects until after the New Year.” Yong Hwa frowned.

“Yes, I am on vacation that’s why I’m here.”

“You’re really Yoon Eun Hye of YEH’s photography?” Jong Hyun asked in awe.

“Yes. Oh, also I’m ready to check out. I want those four cakes in that case. One of each please.”

“Oh…of course. Give me one moment and I’ll get it for you.” Jong Hyun went to get her cakes while Yong Hwa looked at Eun Hye carefully with a suspicious look in his eyes.

Eun Hye stared back at him without even blinking while she waited for her cakes.

“Here it is.” Jong Hyun gave her the box with the cakes inside.

“How much is it?” Eun Hye asked as she broke her eye contact with Yong Hwa.

“It’s free. Enjoy it.” Jong Hyun smiled at her.

“No, really…”

“Really, I’m giving it to you.” Jong Hyun pushed the cake towards her.

Eun Hye smiled. “Okay then…thank you.”

She was about to leave when she turned around and looked at both men.

“Call that number if you decide to hire me. That offer only stands for today, since I’m only here for a few days.” With that said Yoon Eun Hye left the shop.

Jong Hyun looked at his friend Yong Hwa excitedly. “Do you really think that’s Yoon Eun Hye from YEH’s photography?”

Yong Hwa frowned. “I don’t know. It’s too easy.”

“What do you mean?”

“Didn’t we try to contact her agency few months back and it was hard to get an appointment with her and then they mentioned she wouldn’t take any assignment until after New Year.”

“True.” His friend mumbled. “But…why not try calling this number again to see if this is really her. What do we have to lose?”

Yong Hwa looked at his friend and then to the card he was holding. “Fine.”

He pulled out his phone and dialed the number on the card. He pressed the ‘speaker’ so his friend could hear it too.

“YEH’s Photography how may I help you?” The man on the other line answered.

“Yes, my name is Jung Yong Hwa from Sweet Moments Bakery and I want to hire YEH for a photo-shoot.” Yong Hwa said to the person on the other line.

“When will it be?”

“Uhm…it’s for tomorrow.” Yong Hwa looked at his friend who was listening attentively.

“Tomorrow you say?” The young man on the other phone asked.

“Yes, it’s for tomorrow.” Yong Hwa frowned.

“What time?”

“What time?” Yong Hwa asked to make sure he heard it right.

“Yes, what time do you want Ms. YEH to be there tomorrow? And also where?”

“Wait…is she really available for tomorrow?” Yong Hwa inquired. “I called a couple of months ago and someone said she doesn’t take any work till after New Year.”

“You are right sir, but Ms. YEH just called me few minutes ago instructing me that if there’s a call from Sweet Moments Bakery to hire her, she will accept it.”

Yong Hwa watched Jong Hyun grin excitedly in front of him.

“So, what time and place sir?” The guy on the other line asked once more.

Jong Hyun stepped on him to tell the guy on the other line the information.

“Yah!” Yong Hwa barked at his friend as he muted the phone for a second.

“Dangit Yong Hwa! Tell him where and when!”

Yong Hwa 'unmute' the phone and answered. “Yes, the place will be at the Sweet Moments Bakery at 6 am.”
Both Yong Hwa and Jong Hyun heard a lot of typing on the other line.

“Okay sir. She’ll be there by 6 am.”

“Alright then. Thank you.”

“Thank you for choosing YEH’s Photography. Good bye.”

Yong Hwa looked at his phone. “I think we will be able to do this.”

Jong Hyun grinned widely. “I think so too.”

“Noona…” Yoon Shi Yoon, Yoon Eun Hye’s younger brother, called out the fourth time.

“What?”

“Why are we leaving so early?”

“The job starts at 6 am.”

“Again, why so early?!” Shi Yoon was whining like a baby.

Eun Hye looked at the clock on her dashboard. It’s only 5:30 am. “You know how I want to be early in all my jobs.”

“I know that Noona, but the thing is…we are supposed to be on vacation! Why are you doing some work today and this early too?” Then he pointed out. “There’s no one on the road at all…just us.”

Eun Hye looked at her brother who was still mad at her for waking him up at five in the morning. He also didn’t like the idea of working during their family vacation. This was the only time they were actually getting some rest.

“I’m sorry Shi-shi.” She said softly using her pet name to her younger brother.

“Wait…” Shi Yoon sat up straight as he looked at his sister. “Are you by any chance trying to get away from Mom because you don’t have a date yet for the wedding?”

“…I do not.” Eun Hye answered while she avoided her brother’s suspicious gaze by keeping her eyes on the road.

“Wow…you are!” Shi Yoon exclaimed and seemed more awake now, was starting to put two and two together.

“Wait…what’s going on today?” His eyes popped wide open when it dawned on him.

“Today is the luncheon with the whole family and then the Dinner Rehearsal.”

Eun Hye didn’t say a word.

“Hah! You’re avoiding the family.” He pointed at her in revelation.

“Shut up will you. If you don’t want to help me, then that’s fine. I can drop you off at the subway station and you can go back home.”

“Whoa! Noona…I’m on your side you know.”

“Then stop talking.”

He tried to stay quiet, but that was totally not his nature. “So I heard that Mom has someone for you to date while we are here.”

Eun Hye looked at her brother for a second before she turned her eyes back on the road. “What did you hear?”

Shi Yoon grinned as he turned his body towards his sister. “I heard Mom yesterday, talking to someone called Diana I think. Anyway, it seems like this Ms. Diana is having some problems with his son not settling down. That all he do is work and work with this business of his.”

“Really…”

“Yeah, and they agreed to have him meet you as a set up date for the wedding.”

Eun Hye was waiting for more information, but when her brother stopped talking she asked. “That’s it?”

Her brother frowned. “Yeah…Why? You want more?”

“Of course not.”

“So? What are you going to do Noona?”

“I guess I just need to find a date.”

Jong Hyun: Where are you?

Yong Hwa: I’m almost there.

Jong Hyun: She’s almost done you know.

Yong Hwa looked at his watch and saw 10:50.

Yong Hwa: I’m almost there. If I miss her, I’ll send her a thank you card.

Jong Hyun: You’re horrible.

Yong Hwa saw the last message and decided not to answer. In fact, he was already in front of the shop.
After staring at the door for a few minutes he finally decided to enter the shop and walked towards where they were taking the pictures of the cakes and cookies that his business partner made.

His eyes found the famous photographer Eun Hye with a serious look on her face as she snapped that camera of hers away. She was moving around a lot and he noticed someone was helping her with the lights, this made him frown.

“Yong Hwa.” Jong Hyun called out of nowhere from behind him.

Yong Hwa turned around. “What are you doing here?” He was surprised to see Jong Hyun behind him.

“Oh, they don’t need me over there especially when I already had all my cakes and cookies out.” Jong Hyun shrugged.

“Why don’t they need you?”

“They already took a photo of me with my pastries and now they just need to shoot the individual cakes and the assortments of cookies.”

“I see.” He brought his eyes back to Eun Hye.

“Do you want to join us for lunch after they finished their work?”

“Lunch?” Yong Hwa thought about it. “I don’t think I can. Mother wants me to meet her at a luncheon party or something with her friends.”

“Is she setting you up again?”

“It seems like it.” Yong Hwa stood up straight and looked at his friend. “She wants to introduce me to her close friend’s daughter who is in town for the family’s wedding.”

“Really now?” Jong Hyun tapped his chin. “My mom said the same thing to me. Did your mom and my mom talked to each other?”

“I won’t be surprised if they did.” Yong Hwa sighed.

“You know the only way to stop them is to get a girlfriend right?” Jong Hyun winked at him.

“Look who’s talking. You’re single too.” He pointed out.

“Not for too long if I can help it.” Jong Hyun grinned at his friend.

“Wait…what does that mean?” Yong Hwa frowned, but before his friend got a chance to answer his attention was called by the guy who helped with the lights.

“I got to go man. I guess they are done.” Jong Hyun informed him. “If you change your mind about lunch, just let me know.”

“Yeah I will. I’ll go ahead then.” Yong Hwa saw Jong Hyun wave at him before going back to talk to Eun Hye and her staff. He saw how his friend brightened up when he was talking to Eun Hye and vice versa. He didn’t know why, but the scene he just saw didn’t sit well with him. He shook it off his head and with one last look at the two people engaged in an animated conversation he quietly left the shop.

“So tell me. How much do I owe you for this last minute work you did for us?” Jong Hyun asked sweetly in front of Eun Hye.

Eun Hye grinned mischievously towards him as they waited for their orders to arrive.

Jong Hyun took her to one of her favorite Chinese restaurants in the area. Her brother who was with her earlier, bolted out after the work was done. She knew he needed to attend the family luncheon that she didn’t plan to go to.

“Oh, don’t worry about it. I’m doing it for free.”

Jong Hyun looked at her suspiciously in a teasing way. “I can’t do that. I know you’re here for a vacation, and we bothered you with our problem.”

“Don’t mention it. As I said earlier, I’m doing it for free.” Then she added. “How about that’s an exchange from the cakes you gave me yesterday.”

Jong Hyun laughed. “You know that won’t be enough.”

“Well…How about…” Yoon Eun Hye paused as she bit her lower lip, a habit she had when she hesitated.

“C’mon, tell me. You’re making me nervous.” Jong Hyun pushed a little.

“Well, I have a situation.”

“Okay…go on…” He was all ears and his eyes focused on her.

“Well, you know this vacation I have…It’s actually a wedding. My cousin’s wedding.”

Jong Hyun sat back as he listened to what she was trying to say.

“Ineedadate!” Eun Hye just blurted out fast.

“You what?” Jong Hyun looked bemused.

Eun Hye breathed in and then out before slowly repeating what she blurted out. “I said I need a date for this wedding.”

Jong Hyun looked at her as if she was bluffing then a minute passed when he realized she was asking for real.

“You? The Yoon Eun Hye…the one who built and created the YEH Photography is asking me for a date?”

Eun Hye rolled her eyes and sat back with her arms crossed over her chest. “Yes, I am…but now I think I’m regretting it.”

Jong Hyun jumped on his seat and waved his hands like crazy. “Oh no…It wasn’t an insult…I was just surprised that you’re still single. One would think you have men lined up for you to pick.”

Eun Hye looked down on the table and pretended to move the utensils around her glass of water while avoiding eye contact.

“Ohhh…” Jong Hyun noticed her fidgeting. “So, there are men lined up for you to pick.”

“Okay, there are some, but…” She stopped.

“But?” He pried out of curiosity.

“But…I’m looking for love…” Then she quickly added. “Plus the guys who are ‘lined up’ as you say only want my money and fame.”

“I see.” He partly understood what she was saying. “And you need the date why? It’s your cousin’s wedding. Why can’t you go solo?”

“Well, I was planning on doing that until yesterday when my mom was being nosy asking if I have a date.”

“What did you tell her?”

Eun Hye shrugged. “Nothing…she already told me that if I don’t have a date she has someone who would be perfect for me.”

Jong Hyun laughed.

“It’s funny to you huh?” Eun Hye sulked.

“No, not that. It just reminded me of someone who had the same problem.”

“Really?” Eun Hye leaned forward. “If this someone is a guy maybe he can be my date and we can solve two problems the same time.”

The waiter came to bring their food on the table.

“Thank you.” Both Jong Hyun and Eun Hye said to the waiter.

“You know…” Jong Hyun picked up his fork and looked at her. “Your wish might come true.” He winked at her. Bon Appetit!”

Eun Hye looked at him curiously wondering what he meant before she ate her food.

Yoon Eun Hye was waiting outside the church for Jong Hyun, who promised to be her date for the wedding.
She kept looking at her watch then inside the church. The wedding was about to start and her date was missing in action.

“Eun Hye.”

Eun Hye froze.

“Is that you Eun Hye?”

Eun Hye closed her eyes wishing to be somewhere else, but instead she plastered a smile on her face and turned around to face the last person she wanted to see …her ex-fiancé.

“I was right! It is you Eun Hye-Shi.” Lee Shin Do said.

“Yes it is me Shin Do.”

“It’s been a while. I didn’t know you will be here.”

Eun Hye wanted to punch his smug looking face. “Really?” She asked, sarcasm oozing from her voice. “You do know that the one that is getting married is actually my first cousin. My very close first cousin.”

“Well, yeah, but knowing our history, I thought you won’t show up.” He arrogantly shrugged.

“Our history?” Eun Hye stepped closer and was about to slug him when she was interrupted.

“Honey?” A very anorexic looking girl who was probably underfed came bounding up behind him.

“Yes dear?” Shin Do smiled at her.

“Who is she?” The anorexic girl asked.

“Oh, this is my friend Eun Hye. She’s the cousin of the bride.” He explained to his date.

“I see. I guess she’s flying solo?” The girl sneered at her like she was nothing.

Eun Hye wanted to smash the girl’s fake nose.

“Actually…” She was about to tell her that her eyelids were drooping when she got interrupted.

“Hi Honey…” Someone scooped her up for a big tight hug from behind.

Eun Hye was surprised and was more so when she saw Yong Hwa instead of Jong Hyun hugging her.

“Sorry I was late sweet pea. I had some business to take care of.” Yong Hwa kissed her on her cheeks.

Eun Hye didn’t know what to do at first, but Yong Hwa pinched her side and she came back to her senses. She saw the surprised look on Shin Do’s face at the corner of her eyes and how his date practically drooled at the sight of Yong Hwa.

“You know I don’t like it when you let me wait.” Eun Hye wrapped her arms around his waist and gave him a sweet kiss on his lips.

“I know.” Yong Hwa kissed her back in between conversation. “This will be the last time I’ll be late.”

“It better be.” Eun Hye his lips before kissing his neck.

“Honey, do we know these two people staring at us?” Yong Hwa inquired when he felt the stares.

“Oh…I’m so sorry I forgot about them.” Eun Hye straightened up and then hooked her arm around Yong Hwa’s.

“They are some guests on my cousin's side of the family.

“I see.” Yong Hwa didn’t even bother to acknowledge the two people. “Let’s go then. I bet your mom is waiting for us.”

“Okay dear.” Eun Hye looked at her ex-fiancé. “If you will excuse us we have a wedding to attend.”

Both Eun Hye and Yong Hwa left the other couple behind.

~ Sweet Love ~

“Thank you.” Eun Hye finally said to Yong Hwa when they were finally all alone.

Yong Hwa looked at her with a gentle smile. “For what?”

“From saving me earlier in front of my stuck up ex-fiancé and his anorexic girlfriend.”

Yong Hwa couldn’t help but laugh at her description of the couple he briefly met before the wedding.

“You know, when I’m not at the receiving end of that sharp tongue of yours, the things that come out of your mouth are actually funny.”

Eun Hye grinned at him. “Thank you…I’ll take that as a compliment.”

“You should.” Yong Hwa noticed a few eyes staring at them. “It seems like everyone’s attention is on us.”

Eun Hye tore her eyes from the happy newlywed couple and glanced around the room. Yong Hwa was right. Most of the eyes in the room were on them.

“I’m with you as your boyfriend today.” Yong Hwa moved closer to her. “So, I will start. My name is Jung Yong Hwa. I’m 27 years old, single, and own half of the Sweet Moments Bakery.”

“Okay, my turn next. I’m 27, single, and I started my own business YEH’s Photography five years ago, but I was already into photography since I was five years old. Mom’s influence.” She shrugged.

“Good, now that we got that out. We need to come up on how we met and when we actually started going out.”

Eun Hye looked at Yong Hwa and couldn’t help but notice how kind and thoughtful he was.

“Okay, how about we met the first time when you tried to set up an appointment to hire me to do your photo project?”

“That could work. Then we can add that you were busy and that you couldn’t come down here, so I went up and visited you instead.”

“Then you fell in love with me at first sight.” Eun Hye said dramatically that made Yong Hwa laugh loud that caught the attention of the other people around them.

“You are a gem. I wish I have met you long before the other day.” Yong Hwa said with seriousness in his voice.
Eun Hye smiled at him before turning her attention back to the dance floor and said under her breath. “I wish the same thing too.”

“Cuz!” The bride called out to Eun Hye who was talking to some of their family.

Eun Hye turned around and a big smile was plastered on her face. “Cuz!!!”

“I am soooo happy you made it!” Her cousin hugged her tight. “I would have disowned you if you didn’t show up.”

Eun Hye pursed her lips. “You know I can never miss anything big from you.”

Her cousin grinned widely this time. “I know.”

Then she pulled Eun Hye on the side and whispered. “So, who is that handsome guy with you earlier? I heard from our parents that he is your boyfriend?”

Eun Hye blushed. “Well, honestly…I just met him the other day and I helped him with some photography issue.”

“And how did he become your boyfriend so suddenly?” Her cousin didn't want to let it go.

“He is not my boyfriend. He is just pretending to be my boyfriend for this wedding so both of our moms will back off.”

“Wait…both of your moms?”

“Yeah, funny thing is that his mom was doing the same thing as my mom, so pretending to be a couple is like hitting two birds with one stone.” Eun Hye looked so proud.

“Hyo Jin…”

Eun Hye looked at her new cousin-in-law who was looking for his missing bride. “Hyo Jin, I think Oppa’s looking for you.”

“Ji Sub!” Hyo Jin waved at her husband before turning back to Eun Hye. “This conversation is not over yet. You need to tell me details when I come back from my honeymoon.”

“Yes, cuz…I will.” Eun Hye raised her right hand to promise. “Girls scout honor.”

Hyo Jin and Eun Hye both giggled before Hyo Jin ran towards her groom.

“You’re happy.” A familiar masculine voice said from behind her that brought some tingling sensation throughout her body.

“Yes, I am.” She turned around and faced Yong Hwa.

“And why are you that happy? Is it another man?” Yong Hwa raised one of his eyebrows.

Eun Hye chuckled. “Of course not and you know you’re the only one for me.”

“I better be.” Yong Hwa gave her a peck on her lips. Then he whispered, “Your parents are watching us.”

“And they are coming towards us.” Yong Hwa warned her. She turned him around, so she could see her parents marching towards them.

“I guess this is it.”

“Yes, it’s show time.” Eun Hye moved away from their embrace and hooked her arm on his as they both faced her parents.

~ Sweet Love ~

Yong Hwa held Eun Hye very tight as they walked slowly towards Eun Hye’s smiling, but curious parents. He glanced at Eun Hye and he finally realized this nagging feeling he had been trying to suppress.

He liked her. And it was not the friendly kind of feeling, but a full blown can’t eat and can’t sleep kind of feeling.

“I’m in big trouble.” He babbled under his breath.

Eun Hye tilted her head towards him. “Did you say something?”

“No.” He blurted out too fast.

Eun Hye frowned and he knew she was about to ask him something, but she stopped herself since they were a step or two away from her mother.

“Eun Hye dear.” Mrs. Yoon hugged her daughter. “You naughty girl you are. Is it true you really have a boyfriend?”

Yong Hwa saw her blush which made his heart jump a bit.

“Yes mother.” He noticed how Eun Hye hooked her arm again on his after hugging her mom and dad.

“Is this the lucky young man?” Her mom looked at him from head to toe, assessing if he was good enough for her daughter.

“Good evening, I’m Jung Yong Hwa.” He introduced himself.

“Jung Yong Hwa?” Mrs. Yoon asked with interest.

“Yes m’am.” Yong Hwa noticed a glint in Eun Hye’s mom’s eyes.

“I see. “ Mrs. Yoon looked excited. “How long have you been going out?”

Yong Hwa looked at the nervous Eun Hye. He could feel her nervousness beside him.

“We met two months ago.” Eun Hye answered for him.

“And it was love at first sight.” He added while looking sweetly at Eun Hye.

Mrs. Yoon clapped her hands together. “Oh this is wonderful! You need to come and visit us sometime.”

“Mom, he is going out of town after today.” Eun Hye jumped in the conversation.

Yong Hwa hid his amusement as he answered. “Yes, Hye-shi was right. I’ll be busy during the holidays with this project that your wonderful and beautiful daughter did for us.”

Mrs. Yoon looked disappointed. “Well, do stop by anytime when you’re back in town again. Maybe our daughter will bring you home during Christmas.”

“It will be great if that happens.” Yong Hwa felt his phone vibrate. “If you both please excuse me, I have to take this call.”

Yong Hwa bowed and left the beautiful ladies behind him before answering his call.

“Yes Mom?” He answered.

“Dear, I’m so sorry we couldn’t make it at the wedding with you.”

“Oh don’t worry mom.”

“It’s such a shame I couldn’t introduce you to my friend’s daughter. She is very beautiful with a good personality.”

Yong Hwa rolled his eyes. "Good personality usually doesn’t mean good things," he thought.

“Mom, I told you I have a girlfriend already.”

“I thought you were only joking.” Her mom sounded disappointed.

“No mom. I was serious.”

“You really like this girl?” His mom questioned.

Yong Hwa turned his head a little to see Eun Hye talking to her mom and answered. “Yes mom, I think she is the one.”

~ Sweet Love ~

Both Eun Hye and her mother nodded their head and watched Yong Hwa walk away.

“My dear daughter…” Mrs. Yoon said in a ‘you-can’t-fool’ me voice. “You didn’t meet him two months ago and I’m sure he is not your boyfriend.”

Eun Hye stared at her mother. She knew she wasn’t bluffing. “How did you know?”

Her mom turned to her with a giant smile. “Because I know from a good source that your ‘pretend’ boyfriend just came in town just this week. Since you just got in three days ago, I would think you just met him the day after you arrived.”

“You can’t prove that.” She tried to assess her mom. “We could have met somewhere before here.”

Mrs. Yoon laughed with glee. “You are so cute my dear daughter.” She pinched Eun Hye’s cheeks.

Eun Hye and her mom stared at each other, a game they always did when one didn't want to give up on an argument.

“How did you know?” Eun Hye finally gave in.

“Jade.” Her father called her mom.

“I’ll be there dear.” Her mom answered back to him before turning her attention back to her with a winning look.

“What?!!!” She asked in frustration. She didn't like it when her mom was always right or when she knew something she didn’t.

“Jade dear, we need to go.” Her father called again to her mom.

“I’ll be there Jae.”

“Mom!!!” Eun Hye grabbed her mom’s arm.

Mrs. Yoon looked at her for a second and said. “He is Diane’s son.”

With that said her mom gave her a kiss and a hug before she hurriedly walked towards her father.

~ Sweet Love ~

Eun Hye and Yong Hwa bid their farewell to the happy couple as the two drove away in their ‘Just Got Married’ vehicle.

He noticed everyone was heading their separate ways since the newlywed couple left for their honeymoon. He looked beside him where Eun Hye was still looking at the direction where the couple’s car disappeared from their sight, but he knew something was bothering her. He first noticed it when her parents said their good bye to them earlier.

He loved her parents. One could tell that their marriage was built from love since they shined like they were still a newlywed couple. He wanted that feeling.

“Eun Hye, are you okay?”

Eun Hye looked at him with questions in her eyes.

“What’s going on?” He frowned as he saw that confused look in her eyes.

“Have you met my parents before?” She straight out asked.

He shook his head not knowing what that was about. “No…this is the first time I met them. Why?”

Eun Hye stared at his eyes as if she was trying to read something.

“It’s nothing.” She looked down on the ground for a few seconds.

“It doesn’t feel like it’s nothing. What’s going on?” He probed.

She lifted her head back and faced him. “Do you know that your mom knows my mom?”

He was taken aback. “My mom knows your mom?” He shook his head. “Not a clue. What is this about?”

“Mom knows everything.” She finally told him.

“Knows what?” His head was going in circles since he didn’t get what she was trying to tell him.

“I meant that your mom and my mom are friends. Also, you were the one that my mom was trying to set me up with during the wedding.”

It took him a few seconds before it sunk in. “Wait…What?!”

Eun Hye tilted her head as she figured him out. “You really don’t know.”

“Hold on…you thought that I was in to what they were planning?”

Her silence was her answer.

“You do know that you were the one who came in our shop and offered to be our photographer.” He pointed out.

She stood there and just stared at him.

“I can’t believe this.” He placed both of his hands on his hips as he tried to calm down.

He looked back at her with disappointment in his eyes. “You think I was in with them.”

When he didn’t get any answer or reaction he just shook his head. “This conversation is pointless.”

He still didn’t see any reaction from her, Just only plain blank and cold eyes.

“I’m done here. I thought that there was something but…” He stopped his sentence.

“What’s the use…I’m leaving.” He was a few feet away when he turned around. “By the way, the photos…I think it will be the best way to deal with my partner instead.”

~ Sweet Love ~

“Noona, where are you going?” Eun Hye jumped when she heard her brother.

“Do you even know how to knock?” She glared at her brother.

Shi Yoon walked closer to her. “I did, but you didn’t hear me at all. So, where are you going?”

“I’m meeting our client at the coffee shop across the street.” She grabbed her purse, portfolio bag, and laptop.

Shi Yoon frowned. “Why across the street? Why not here? You always have your clients come here.”

“Well, I need some coffee.” She came up with that reason out of nowhere.

“You just had one earlier…I was the one who brought it to you.” Her brother pointed it out. “What’s going on Noona?”

She motioned her hand that it was nothing. “I need to go. Call me if something comes up. I’ll just be across the street.” She didn’t even let her brother say a word as she bolted out of her office,

Once she was out of the building she turned around to make sure that her brother didn’t follow her. When she thought it was safe to go she turned her attention across the street.

When the lights turned red and the pedestrian sign changed to ‘walk’ she crossed the street and then went straight to the coffee shop.

Once she stepped inside she looked around the room for a familiar face.

“Eun Hye!” A low masculine voice called out to her. She turned around and found the person she was looking for.

“Jong Hyun.” She smiled and walked towards his table. “How are you?”

“I am great. Thank you for meeting me here.” Jong Hyun motioned for her to sit on the chair in front of him. “Do you have them?”

“Yes, I do.” She pulled out an envelope from her portfolio bag and handed it to Jong Hyun. “Here they are.”

Jong Hyun excitedly opened the envelope and grabbed what was inside and went through them.

Eun Hye watched him carefully with a satisfied smile on her face.

“These are amazing!” Jong Hyun grinned at her. “Thank you.”

“It’s my job. I just did what you asked from me.” She shyly said.

“Well, these photos are amazing and I can’t wait to show it to Yong Hwa.” The moment he said that, he looked at Eun Hye. “I’m sorry.”

“Sorry for what?” She pretended not to notice.

“I’m sorry for bringing up his name.” He placed the photos slowly on the table.

“Why? He is your business partner.” She shrugged.

There was silence in between them for a few seconds until Jong Hyun cleared his throat.

“You know that fool misses you.” Jong Hyun blurted out.

She smiled sadly. “You’re too nice Jong Hyun, but we both know that isn’t true.”

“Why don’t you come over and see him?”

“I can’t. I wronged him. I blamed him to things he didn’t do and I don’t think he can forgive me.”

Jong Hyun sat back and studied her carefully. “You love him.”

Eun Hye was surprised. “How…?”

He smiled gently at her and said, “You have the same expression and look in your eyes as him.” then added, “Plus, he admitted it to me.”

That got Eun Hye’s attention.

“Same expression?” She leaned forward eager for more information. “He admitted it?”

“Yeah, the look of a love-struck puppy.” He sipped his coffee. “And yes, he admitted it to me, his partner and best friend.”

“You’re bluffing.” Eun Hye threw at him.

“No I’m not. He is driving me crazy at work.” He sighed. “You know the main reason I came here was to tell you that Yong Hwa is in love with you and now I know you are too. You both need to get over what happened before and just be honest with your feelings for each other!”

“It’s probably too late.” She started to gather all her things together in a hurry. “Thank you for meeting me and I hope we can work together again in the future.” She stood up and waved at him before leaving.

Jong Hyun called out. “His family will be with your family for Christmas. I heard that you won’t be there.”

She stopped on her tracks and hesitated a bit, but she chose to ignore what he was saying.

“If you really love him be there and tell him face to face!”

Eun Hye shook her head and started walking towards the door and out of the coffee shop.

~ Sweet Love ~

“Merry Christmas!” Mrs. Yoon greeted her guest as she opened the door.

“Jayde! Merry Christmas too you too!” Mrs. Jung said before giving her friend a big hug.

“Oh, where’s my manners. Come on in.” Mrs. Yoon said to the rest of them.

“Jayde dear, do you remember my son Yong Hwa?”

Mrs. Yoon looked at him with a knowing smile. “Yes, Yoo Bin dear. I met him during my niece’s wedding few weeks ago.”

“Isn’t that amazing? Your daughter and my son…Who would have known!”

“Mom…” Yong Hwa tried to get his mom to calm down.

He also noticed how Mrs. Yoon looked at him.

“Yoo Bin dear, let’s get you and your family in the living room. I’m almost done with dinner.”

Yong Hwa followed her mom who was following Mrs. Yoon towards the living room.

“Okay dear. Enjoy the snacks on the table and drinks are at the bar.” Then Mrs. Yoon looked at him.

“Yong Hwa, why don’t you help me bring some of the food in the dining table.”

Yong Hwa looked at her and then to her mom.

“Go on son. Your father and I will just wait here.”

“Ok mother.” Then he followed Mrs. Yoon in the kitchen.

When the kitchen door closed behind him Mrs. Yoon turned around and faced him.

“I’m so sorry son.” She said in a very apologetic voice which surprised him.

“What are you sorry for Mrs. Yoon?”

“I’m sorry for breaking you and my daughter up.” She sighed. “I knew I was the one who caused that break up by telling her who you really were. I just didn’t realize that she would take it that bad and blame you.”

Yong Hwa leaned on the kitchen island. “Don’t worry about it Mrs. Yoon. It’s over.”

“It’s not really over you know…I could tell that you really love my daughter and I saw the both of you during the wedding and…” She smiled gently. “I knew that she loves you too.”

“How could you tell Mrs. Yoo? You weren’t there when she blamed me I was part of this mess. Her eyes…” He remembered. “It was cold…it was like I betrayed her.”

Mrs. Yoon walked up to him and placed her hand on his shoulder. “I knew…because she is my daughter.” She explained. “I bet you she is beating herself up from what she did to you.”

Ding…

Mrs. Yoon looked at the oven. “I guess the turkey is ready.”

“Do you need some help?” Yong Hwa asked when Mrs. Yoon walked over the oven to check the turkey.

She smiled. “Yes dear. How about you grab that big plate on the island and bring it here.”

Yong Hwa took the plate and placed it on top of the oven as he helped pull out the turkey and placed it gently on the beautiful plate.

“Okay son, go ahead and bring it to the dining room on the center of the table and I’ll bring the honey ham behind you.”

“Okay.” He walked towards the kitchen door and turned around, so he could push the door open with his back. He was concentrating on not dropping the turkey that he didn’t notice the person who stood at the other end side of the table.

“Yong Hwa…”

He was startled and almost dropped the turkey.

“I got it son.”

He looked at Mrs. Yoon as she carefully took away the turkey and placed it on the table then he watched her walk back towards him.

“Son… be honest to your feelings.” Mrs. Yoon whispered before heading out to the living room.

“Yong Hwa.”

He closed his eyes to calm himself down.

~ Sweet Love ~

Eun Hye decided to come home for Christmas. She packed up her stuff and didn’t even tell anyone. She was standing in front of her parent’s house when her brother saw her.

“Noona?” Shi Yoon called from behind her.

She turned around and smiled at her brother.

“What are you doing here? I thought you won’t be coming home for Christmas.”

She punched her brother on the arm. “Why? I can’t change my mind?”

Shi Yoon grinned. “You should have told me sooner. We could have driven down here together.”

“You mean I could have driven down here while you sleep at the passenger seat.” She joked.

“You know me too well Noona.” Shi Yoon grabbed her stuff. “C’mon, the Jang families are here already. I just went to get more ice from the corner store”

“Okay, lead the way.” Eun Hye took a deep breath and shook her body. “I’m going in.”

Eun Hye walked in the house and saw her father. “Hi dad…Merry Christmas.”

“Eun Hye you are here.” Her dad smiled brightly as he gave her a big long hug that she needed the most. “I’m so glad you came home.”

“Thank you dad.”

“Now go to the kitchen. Your mom would love to see your face.” He pushed her towards the dining room.

“Okay dad.” She almost laughed on how her dad was pushing her towards the kitchen.

She saw the kitchen door open and was about to call her mom when she saw who came out.

“Yong Hwa.” She said under her breath. It was loud enough for him to hear since she saw him freeze on his tracks.

She walked slowly towards him, but stopped when she saw her mom walk out the same door and saw her. She smiled gently towards her and then she looked at Yong Hwa.

“Let me have that son.” She carefully grabbed the turkey and placed it on the table, then went back towards Yong Hwa and whispered something that she couldn’t hear before she disappeared back into the kitchen.

“Yong Hwa…” She said again, but much louder.

It felt like forever before Yong Hwa looked up to face her.

“Eun Hye.” He called out her name with so much longing.

She almost cried when she saw the pain in his eyes. She knew it was her who caused that pain and she wanted to take it away.

She walked slowly towards him, her eyes never strayed away from his handsome face. There were no words spoken; only their eyes showed understanding.

Eun Hye stopped and stood in front of Yong Hwa. “I’m so sorry.” She whispered as tears started to roll down her face.

Yong Hwa reached out and hugged her. “I am sorry too.” He held her tighter. “I love you.”

Eun Hye was surprised to hear those words. She pushed herself away a little to look at his eyes and she saw the love that she longed for.

“I love you too you know.” She blushed while saying those words.

Yong Hwa leaned closer to her as she slowly closed her eyes, then finally she felt Yong Hwa’s lips gently touch hers.

She wrapped her arms around his neck while deepening their kiss and not letting him go.

“Noona…you want some cookies?” Shi Yoon had no clue what was going and was pulled back by her mother.

Eun Hye and Yong Hwa broke their kiss, but didn’t let each other go. They were both breathing heavily while they stared at each other’s eyes.

“Noona…” Shi Yoon tried to call for help, but was muffled by his mom.

“You little trouble maker.” Someone whispered.

“What’s going on?” Shi Yoon cried.

Eun Hye and Yong Hwa could hear Shi Yoon and their mothers in the hallway as they were chastising Shi Yoon for not knowing about the atmosphere in the kitchen. That he ruined a perfect make-up kiss.

“Should we rescue your little brother?” Yong Hwa laughed.

Eun Hye frowned. “Do we have to? Our mothers are right. He did disturb our wonderful kiss.”

Yong Hwa paused. “You are right.” He agreed.

“So, you still want me to save her from our mothers?”

“Nah…let him suffer for ruining the best make-up kiss ever.” Yong Hwa kissed her nose.

Eun Hye’s eyes twinkled. “I love you.”

Yong Hwa felt the luckiest man on earth. “I love you more.”

He lowered his head once again and claimed the lips of the woman he loved.
