Christmas is a warm holiday. And winter is a cold season. So how do these two coincide? Is it because it is so cold in winter that everyone needs the warmth of family, gifts and hot chocolate?

Christmas. Festive red everywhere, tinsel, golden bells, pine trees and mistletoe.

The season of warmth: sweaters, handmade gifts, greeting cards, happy couples and family reunions.

 It was very cold outside, the temperature was below zero in Seoul. Although Woobin was wrapped up in several thick layers, wearing a khaki padded winter jacket over a denim shirt over a thick sweater, he still felt cold. His hands were in leather gloves and his feet wrapped in leather boots with thick angora socks, but his hands and feet always felt cold. Woobin disliked heat packs because they always overheated when he placed them in his pockets and burnt his fingers. However, it was necessary when he was this close to freezing.

He still remembered that girl who introduced heat packs to him.

He was the one who pushed her away during that difficult time when he needed her the most. Even till now, his heart still longs for her. Every Christmas, he reminisces that special Christmas he spent with her, the one that changed his life forever.

Rain began to fall, first lightly and then getting heavier, falling in slanted sheets. The wind picked up and began to howl. There was no one on the streets except Woobin. Who in the right mind would continue walking without taking shelter in this weather?

Woobin sighed as he continued his lonely journey. Where was he going anyway? He was just moving without a purpose, as he had the day he made the decision he regretted forever. Glancing up at the sky, he squinted as the rain fell straight onto his face. The first snow hasn’t even appeared, and it just rained like this everyday. The weather was as depressing as his feelings.

If she was here, it wouldn’t even have mattered whether it rained or snowed.

She was his sunshine, his personal vitamin. Woobin was always a reserved person who kept his thoughts to himself, and she was the one who taught him how to express himself. She taught him that it was okay to laugh out loud when he found something amusing; to cry his heart out when he was feeling depressed. She taught him how it was like to love someone, and what honesty and sincerity was.

She gave him so much, but all he did was take the light out of the sun.

If what he did was for her own good, then why did it hurt both of them so much?

Woobin found himself in a park. It was still raining heavily. Making his way to a bench, he sat down despite the wetness. He was thoroughly soaked anyway. Shivering and with his teeth chattering, he put his head in his hands, overcome by all the feelings he was facing. It had been long since he broke down like that. Tears escaped from his eyes as he mourned his lost love; his one and only true love. They slid down his face and landed on his clothes, where the rain camouflaged them and blended together. 

Sojin ah, bogo shipeo.
