When Donghae gave his promise, he meant to keep it. Even if his heart was breaking or his own happiness being deprived from him, he wouldn’t break it. He wouldn’t dare break that promise he had with Kyuhyun, because if he did, it would mean that he’ll give up his love for Kyu and that would never happen.

Foreword

Kyuhyun and Donghae were only kids, Kyu being a year younger from Hae. They’ve known each other ever since Kyuhyun moved in to the neighbourhood, on that day as well; Donghae had been fond of being with the kid.

They’ve spent afternoons playing non-stop and later became inseparable; it was a friendship that anyone would cherish. In fact they spent more time with each other rather than their own family. Things were well between them and nothing could stain their bond.

One day when Kyuhyun got a serious injury on his leg that he had to be kept in bed with a cast in his limb, Donghae cried and felt utterly worthless. Kyu didn’t know why he cried or even felt that way about himself, “You don’t have to be like that… I’ll survive, it’ll take more than a broken leg to kill the likes of me” he joked but it didn’t seemed helpful as Hae continued to sob.

“Come on Hae, get a hold of yourself, I’ll be back outdoors once my leg heals. So stop crying and just be glad that this was the only thing I got” Hae stopped weeping and frowned, “I’m sorry if I wasn’t able to help… when you fell on the stairs” Kyu smiled at how silly Hae had looked.

“Shut up, it wasn’t anyone’s fault, if there was someone to blame that would be me. I was rushing on getting down stairs so I tripped and tumbled down and got this crappy cast in my leg. Hey, no pain no gain” he joked just in order to keep Donghae from crying again.

“D-Does it still hurt?” he hesitantly asked as he surveyed the concealed limb, “Not like the first but I’ll make it through, besides I wouldn’t have to go to school for a few weeks and I’ll get to play in here in my room all day!” he cheerfully implied.

Hae lowered his head and Kyu got the message, “Of course you’ll be here with me right?” he inquired. Hae then lightened up and rose his head to face him with a newfound joy in his face, “Sure I would” Kyu now felt everything was back to normal.

“There we go; I thought I was going to have a disgruntled and a weeping willow around me all the time. You’re more fun to stare at when you smile and laugh” he seriously said and Hae took everything without missing a beat. He felt his cheeks burn and Kyu noticed the rosy coloured skin but didn’t point out, knowing that I’ll make Hae feel embarrassed.

Days have passed and the both of them carried on with their usual antics though things got limited since Kyuhyun still bared the cast, their fun still didn’t cease. They played video games, watched cartoons and also, with Hae’s persistence, forced Kyuhyun to have some study done at their free time.

Kyu didn’t complain much since he did need to get updated with the current studies even if they were just grade school students.

Their friendship wasn’t only having fun with each other or just a need to buy some time, they listen to each other, they make decisions together and they coordinate with one another to get their goals. They were semi-matured with the way they cooperated but still fun and games were inside their mind.

Within their parent’s insights they’re a picture of true siblings, they get some conflicts but the two would always get things to work out. They look out for each other and shows concern at all times, they had full faith in the two that once they’d grow up, they’d watch over each other no matter what would came to hindrance.

When Kyuhyun came home from the hospital to get the cast removed and would have a single crutch to aid his still freshly recovered leg. Hae was waiting in idle at their house; he had been anticipated on finally seeing Kyu have his leg working as before.

They were upstairs playing some video games and also prepared to get some shut eye right after, “How long will you be having that thing with you?” Hae brought out the question but they still continued to play. “The doctor said that I should still have it with me until my leg’s strong enough again” he bit his lip and pounded at the controller.

“Really now, it was bad enough that I saw you with that cast and drew some scribbles at it but that thing made you look like a disabled old man… well you do act old” he joked and snickered at his own gag. Kyu rolled his eyes but kept his fingers at work. “I’ll just be using it for a few more days and it’s called a crutch smarty pants” he sarcastically said.

Hae then pause the game and got Kyu’s attention, he turned with a questioning look at him “What’s wrong? Your brain couldn’t process the new word?” he chuckled but Hae was unfazed. “As long as you still need me, I’ll still be by your side, I promise you that” he neglected the earlier statement.

Kyu could see that Hae was being serious in delivering that promise, he smiled “Then, if I were to ask to have you by my side when I need you, will you be there to help me out?” he tested; “Any time and place, I’ll do everything to be there for you” Kyu couldn’t help but to smile.

He placed the controller at the floor and extended his hand; it was a symbol of agreement that they’ve made. A handshake to seal promises between them, and that was their unique way of bringing the ties. Hae didn’t falter to seal it, so he reached and shook hands with him. “Is there a catch in my end?” Kyu asked.

“Just don’t overdo it or else I’ll end up beating you up till you have tons of broken bones” he joked and the both of them laughed. Both of them have completely become a total part of each other’s life, a deal that even the devil would be able to bribe.
