Where I Belong

So Close Yet So Far

"1, 2, 3, Throw!"

Kyungsoo flinched as he landed on the rough trash bags in the school dumpster filled with disgusting stench. The school bullies stood there and laughed at him, brushing their hands as if it was another job well done.

"That's where you belong ! In the trash!"

"Home sweet home huh Kyungsoo?"

"You should already be used to do this you disgusting homo!"

The bullies were right. He was already used to this. Being thrown into the school's back dumpster every day, ever since he was a freshman. Ever since he came out of the closet as an openly gay student. Kyungsoo was now a junior and it's been two years. Kyungsoo was already used to this kind of behavior from the bullies.

Before Kyungsoo could sit up in the pile of trash, the lead bully, Chanyeol, spit onto the latter's face. The bullies roared in laughter once again, before they all left the area, leaving Kyungsoo sitting there alone. Kyungsoo groaned as he sat up in daze and tried to find his lost glasses. He rummaged through the stinky trash bags until he finally found the specs, which was smeared with some pasty substance. After cleaning them, he jumped out of the dumpster in struggle, landing on his feet. He brushed off his clothes and proceeded to walk home as it was already 1 hour after school ended.

This was Kyungsoo's life as an openly gay student. And he hated it. But he didn't care. It was his choice to reveal that he was gay and was glad he did it. He was proud to be gay.

The next day, Kyungsoo sat at the lunch table with his only friend, Baekhyun. Baekhyun was the only one that understood Kyungsoo and his problems as Baekhyun was biual. However, the fact that he's friends with the only openly gay person at school causes people to bully Baekhyun as well. Baekhyun is an incredibly loyal friend as he still stands by Kyungsoo's side despite the bullying. Of course, the two friends didn't have any attraction towards each other. They saw each other as brothers instead.

"Yah, I tried calling you yesterday afterschool. Where were you? I wanted to eat lunch with you!" Baekhyun says to Kyungsoo.

"Oh, the usual place which seems to be the most popular preferred location of bullying nowadays…." Kyungsoo stated.

"The dumpster. Got it."

Kyungsoo rolled his eyes as he took a bite out of his rice.

"Oh yeah, I meant to tell you yesterday! But there's a new student coming here today! I heard he is quite good-looking from some accounts" Baekhyun said, nudging an elbow to the latter. Kyungsoo sighed before replying.

"Look Baekhyun, what are the chances that this oh-so-good-looking new student could be gay? I'm not gonna find a boyfriend anytime soon with a miniscule percentage of South Korea being the same type of person as me."

"Maybe you could seduce him into changing his ual orientation."

"Ha. Funny. And just cause he's good looking, doesn't mean I'll like him."

"Now that you mention it, have you ever even liked any guy before?" Baekhyun asked with doubt in his tone. Kyungsoo slowly and shamefully shakes his head no.

"Then how do you know you were gay in the first place?!" Baekhyun exclaimed.

"I don't know! I realized it when I was very young! Probably like middle school or something. I hung out with boys a lot and I guess I was more attracted to them than I was to girls. It just came to me like that." Kyungsoo explained.

"I see. Well, if the new boy happens to be in your class, let me know how you think of him okay? "

"Whatever." Kyungsoo merely scoffed. Baekhyun put a hand on his shoulder.

"I want you to be happy Kyungsoo. Especially all the you've been through for the past two years. Go find yourself a lover and have your moment to shine. Please."

Kyungsoo gave a small smile to Baekhyun. "Don't worry about it. But thanks dude."

Baekhyun returned the smile. "What friends are for right? Anyways, lunch is almost over and I need to head back to class. You should wrap up too." Baekhyun said as he stood up to walk away.

"Love you Baekhyun….No homo." Kyungsoo called out to him. Baekhyun merely chuckled at his friend's ironic statement.

Kyungsoo sat in class, head on his desk, isolated at the back of the room while everyone else was chatting amongst themselves at the front. Of course, no one wanted to sit with or talk to the homo.

"Okay settle down class! We have a new student here with us today!" the teacher announced. Kyungsoo's head lifted off the desk and his attention was now at the front of the class, hearing about the new student.

"Everyone please welcome, Kim Jongin!"

A tan skinned boy stood at the front of the classroom, bowing to the class.

"Hello everyone. I will be joining your class from now on.  Please take care of me."

His straight hair was dark brown and had very alluring dark eyes. Kyungsoo stared at Jongin as he mentally facepalmed himself, acknowledging the fact that Baekhyun was right.

. He is hot.

"Okay Jongin, you can go ahead and sit at any open seat", the teacher told him. He smiled at the teacher and proceeded to walk down the aisle. Many girls stared at him and whispered amongst themselves, probably complimenting at how good-looking or cute he is. Kyungsoo gulped in anticipation. There were many open seats around Kyungsoo, and he hoped that Jongin would at least sit near him.

Jongin sat down at the open seat next to Chanyeol. The bully.

What was Kyungsoo thinking? That hopefully his life will turn out to be some shounen-ai manga where a super hot new boy would sit next to him in class and fall in love with him? What a cliché. Kyungsoo just realized that this is a reality. Where fairy tales don't exist.

Kyungsoo sighed in disappointment as he stared at the back of Jongin's head. Besides. What are the chances of Jongin being gay like Kyungsoo? One in a million.

----------------------------------------

After the bell rang, Kyungsoo gathered all of his belongings together, until a tall giant came over to his desk.

"Hey female." Chanyeol's deep voice rang in Kyungsoo's ears. Kyungsoo looked up at him, frowning.

"What do you want Chanyeol." Kyungsoo growled.

"Oh nothing. I bet you got the hots for the new kid. I mean, every girl in our class was staring at him. Including you."

"First off, I'm not a girl. Second, I was not staring. I was paying attention in class unlike a certain illiterate someone."

"Ouch. Well, you better not have a stupid gay crush on him or something. I doubt he's of a homoual species like you. "

Kyungsoo merely rolled his eyes, and tried to walk away. Suddenly, Chanyeol decides to snatch Kyungsoo's glasses off his face and chucked it outside the nearby open window in the classroom. Kyungsoo gasped and stared at Chanyeol with wide eyes, not believing what he just did, while Chanyeol merely just smirked at the shorter boy.

"Good luck finding those glasses, lady." Chanyeol told Kyungsoo with a dirty smile. Kyungsoo just bolted out the door, leaving Chanyeol standing there, chuckling.

Kyungsoo went outside and started to rummage through the bushes. It was quite difficult to spot them since his vision was very blurry without his glasses. Kyungsoo knew this was gonna take forever to find and he obviously can't go back to class properly without his specs. He was quickly losing his patience and vigorously pushed the branches of the bushes side to side, trying hard to find them. He took his anger and frustration out by singing.

"I wanna be a billionaire so freakin bad~ So that one day Chanyeol will work for me~"

"Are you looking for these?"

Kyungsoo practically jumped, hearing a voice behind him. He turned around and saw the new kid, Jongin, standing before him, smiling, with a pair of broken glasses in his hand.

"O-oh yes thank you so much!" Kyungsoo stuttered as he tried to get off the ground, but ends up stumbling back down to his . Jongin just chuckled and lent Kyungsoo a hand. Kyungsoo hesitantly grabbed the hand with an awkward smile and was brought to his feet. Jongin handed him the pair of broken specs.

"Sorry, I kind of found it on the ground like this…." Jongin apologized.

"Oh no it's okay. It's not your fault." Kyungsoo said as he looked at his cracked glasses with a saddened face.

"Can you see well without your glasses?"

"Yeah I'm good without them. Thanks for finding it for me! Anyways, go to go haha." Kyungsoo said with a rushed tone and proceeded to walk away.

"Uhm excuse me?" Kyungsoo heard Jongin say. Kyungsoo turned back to him.

"…Yes?" Kyungsoo replied.

"You're walking towards the street. The school is this way…." Jongin said, pointing towards the correct direction. Busted.

"Oh." Kyungsoo merely coughed.

"Haha, would you like me to guide you to your class then? Since you can't see very well?" Jongin laughed.

"Sure…." Kyungsoo said as he embarrassingly walked next to Jongin.

Kyungsoo and Jongin walked inside the building side-by-side to their next class.

"Where's your class?" Jongin asked the shorter boy.

"Room 12. Second floor."Kyungsoo replied.

"Cool! That's my class too. I didn't know you were in the same class as me."

"Yeah, you're the new student who recently joined today right? Jongin? I was the loner sitting at the back. You might not have noticed me."

"Sorry I don't remember. It was hard to actually look at the people in the classroom since everyone was staring at me like I'm a foreign alien. Anyways, you know my name. So what's yours?"

"Do Kyungsoo."

"Nice to meet you Kyungsoo." Jongin smiled at Kyungsoo. Unfortunately, Kyungsoo couldn't tell if Jongin was smiling or not since he was practically blind at the moment.

"Nice to meet you too." Kyungsoo gave a small smile to Jongin.

"Oh yeah, I heard you singing back there." Jongin told him.

"Y-you did?"

"Yep! You sing really well by the way."

Kyungsoo couldn't help but to blush at Jongin's compliment.

"Thanks…." Kyungsoo said with his head down.

"But the lyrics though…I'm pretty sure Chanyeol is the tall kid who sits next to me in class. Do you not like him?"

"Well, he is the reason why I was outside in the first place, looking for a pair of glasses that is now broken."

"You mean……he threw it outside the window?" Jongin asked. Kyungsoo immediately nodded.

"Wow that's mean. Why did he do that?"

"He kinda hates me for……being me, I guess. To put it that way." Kyungsoo sighed.

"What do you mean "for being me"? You're such a nice person though." Jongin exclaimed. Kyungsoo smiled.

"Don't worry about it."

By the time they had finished talking, they already arrive to their class.

"Well Kyungsoo. It was nice talking to you. Will you be fine without your glasses?" Jongin asked in concern.

"Yeah, I have a pair of emergency contact lenses in my bag so it's fine. Thanks for guiding me here Jongin." Kyungsoo thanked him.

"Anyways, I'll talk to you later alright? I hope we become good friends!" Jongin said before he ran off to his own seat. Kyungsoo couldn't help but to smile like a fool to himself, incredibly happy he was able to make such an outgoing and kind friend.

From afar, a tall figure witnessing the whole scene in anger.

------------------------------

Kyungsoo proceeded to walk home after school. Then a group of the usual bullies appeared before him. Really? Two days in a row now?

"Headed home lady?" Chanyeol mockingly said to Kyungsoo.

"Look Chanyeol. You've managed to break my only pair of glasses. Isn't that enough for a day?" Kyungsoo said in defense.

"Not at all! Besides, today is a very special day. A new friend joined us today…." Chanyeol said as he stepped aside, revealing another addition to the group. Kyungsoo widened his eyes at the sight.

Jongin was standing amongst the group of bullies, with a confused look on his face.

"Kyungsoo! Hi….Chanyeol brought me here cause he wanted to show me something….I don't know what's going on right now honestly…" Jongin confessed.  Chanyeol wrapped his arm around Jongin's shoulder as if they were best friends.

"Well Jongin. This is Kyungsoo! You guys have probably met before. But there's something about Kyungsoo you probably don't know….." Chanyeol told Jongin.

"Wait! Don't say it please! Just throw me in the dumpster already and call it a day!" Kyungsoo begged. He really did not want Jongin to know that he was gay. He didn't want to ruin his new friendship with Jongin.

"Our Kyunggie is a disgusting homoual! Can you believe it?" Chanyeol said as he roared in laughter with his group of bullies. Kyungsoo's eyes widened even more while Jongin just stood there with a blank face.

"Wait, Kyungsoo. You're gay?" Jongin asked.  Before Kyungsoo could answer, Chanyeol loudly interrupted.

"You bet he is! And you know where homos like him belong. In the garbage!" Chanyeol said as the bullies suddenly ran towards the caught-off-guard Kyungsoo and grabbed his legs and arms, throwing him into the nearby dumpster. The bullies shuts the dumpster closed, leaving Kyungsoo laying on the stinky, dirty trash in complete darkness. Kyungsoo overheard their conversation.

"See Jongin? Don't hang out with faggots like him. You will be infected by his disease." Chanyeol told Jongin. "Anyways, me and my boys are gonna head to go eat. Come with us dude!"

Kyungsoo hears footsteps fading away from the area, until it became completely silent.

It's over. Jongin now knows that he's gay. Jongin's probably disgusted. Just when Kyungsoo thought that he finally made a new friend he can rely on. The friendship completely shattered in such a short time. Maybe it was true. Gays like him belong in the trash. Kyungsoo covered his face with his hands and laid there. Not bothering to get out the dumpster, knowing that this is where he belongs.

Suddenly, the top of the dumpster opened. Light shone on Kyungsoo's face, causing him to flinch. A figure, looking like an angel with light behind him, stood over Kyungsoo in the dumpster. Kyungsoo blinked a couple of times to realize who it was standing before him.

"You know. You've been laying here for an awful long time." Jongin laughed as he lent a hand to Kyungsoo.

"I don't think you belong here."

Chapter 1: Ahhhh! Yes~ first commenter!!! I must fulfill the important mission of giving you love and admiration to continue the story!
Anyways~
This is something different. There's always Kaisoo, and the typical parents who don't like it, but this totally based on what problems are today. What's the problem with being different? My god. If everyone were the same, I'd surely go crazy! I wonder what people like "chanyeol" think when they do these things. It's really terrible and we need more people to stick up for what's right! Your story is based on this and... I'm glad. It's well written, great story plot, and it's new! ( nothing near cliche)
I hope you'll continue this fic because it states a stand- a real movement. Good luck and I hope you have fun writing it.
keep it up~~~~~~
And thank you ><
