Four Seasons

Description

As cold as winter.
As refreshing as spring.
As bright as summer.
As moody as fall.

Winter

Name: Lee Minhyuk B-Bomb

Nickname: Winter

DOB: 14. December. 1990

Personality:

Out of all of the four siblings, B-Bomb has the coldest personality. Which fits the nickname his youngest brother gave him - winter . Unlike the others, he's rather quiet and observant and trusts nobody but his siblings. Together with Sunkyu, the boy makes  sure that everyone was alright and had enough money to afford the bare neccessaries. While his sister is out to work from morning to afternoon, he is in charge of his two younger brothers before he has to go to work from evening to morning.

He loves the others and he'd give anything to make their life somehow better.  But for now, all he can do is trying to work as much as possible to let them have everything they need. Although he's often quite rough and mean to other people and often seems heartless, he can be quite nice to his siblings - but he likes to deny things like that. The main reason why he's cold towards others though, is that he doesn't want anyone to get hurt. Sure, his sibling were naive, you could fool them into thinking that they can trust you, but B-Bomb was a completely different story.
Why he goes by the name B-Bomb you ask? Well, that's a secret only he and his siblings share. The only people who are allowed to call him by his real name are the few members of his family - even though they also only do it in special occasions.

Spring

Name: Lee Sunkyu

Nickname: Spring, Sunny, her mother often used to call her sunshine but now the only rare occasions she's called by that name are the one's when B-Bomb's in a great mood or needs something.

DOB: 15. May. 1989

Personality:

The only girl in the troop. She's quasi the mother of the group.  Not only because of her birthday being in spring did Jeongguk give her the nickname Spring but also because of her nice and caring personality which seems like it could heal wounds. She always takes care of her younger siblings - even of B-Bomb but she doesn't tell him because he holds the view of him being reliable enough to not needing to have somebody who takes care of him. And even though it's true that he's reliable enough, she still considers that everyone needs to have somebody. Even her. She has the second oldest who always helps her solving her problems. As not only the only girl but also as the oldest in the family, she's often unable to cope with her brothers, even with the help of Minhyuk. But Sunkyu can also show a whole different side. Just as every other person - who wasn't Daniel who almost never has one of these - she has days where she just wanted to get away and don't come back until she calmes down. The boys usually know when she has one of these when she starts cursing more than usual.

Summer

Name: Lee Daniel

Nickname: Summer, Niel

DOB: 16. August. 1994

Personality:

This guy's nickname seems to fit the best out of all. He's a little sunshine who never seems to have a bad day - a few hours if something really bad happened but never more. Daniel is the most outgoing in the group which is why Minhyuk always looks thrice at his choice of friends. The older's quite sure the  second youngest is too nice and maybe too naive for his liking but the third born doesn't seem to care much about it and just lets his brother do whatever he wishes.  Unlike the youngest, he does everything he's told. Well, at least more that 'Fall'. But one should not be tricked by his nice appearance. He's quite mischievous to be frank. Even with the three years of difference in age, Daniel's and Jeongguk's mindset seems to be almost exactly the same. They both are playful, do whatever comes into their mind, can be really curious to the point where the elders get annoyed and send them to their rooms or just out of the room they are in.

Fall

Name: Lee Jeongguk

Nickname: Fall, Guk

DOB: 1. September. 1997

Personality:

The youngest addition to the small family, Jeongguk. He's quite the jokester of the group and tries to make his older sibling laugh - or in Minhyuk's case, smile. Like stated before, he and Daniel are similiar in many points but unlike the other, Jeongguk has a split personality. It goes to the point where he might as well get called bipolar. The boy changes from the happy, playful fourth born his siblings are used to, to a mad, swearing stranger who explodes if somebody utters a wrong word or to a weak and depressed little kid who just wants to feel like somebody needs him in a matter of seconds. Minhyuk is his role model, which is why Sunkyu often blames the other for having taught him those swears by cussing in front of him all the time.
Jeongguk often feels sorry whenever he hears his siblings talk about their mother. Although it was nobody's fault that she passed away, he still takes the blame. 'If I wouldn't have been born, she'd be still alive and the others would still have somebody who took care of them.' The thought sadly pops up in his mind way too often which is why he feels depressed from time to time, no matter how often the others reassure him that it absolutely isn't his fault.

Foreword

September 1st, 1997
Fall
Seoul National University Hospital, Jong-ro, Seoul

Holding her, at that time, youngest brother's hand, Sunkyu made sure he won't run into the room where their mother was lying in. She's been in there for hours and nobody was allowed to visit her - nobody who was present at the hospital that is.

The two older sibling, of course,  knew what was going on but Daniel had no clue. That being the case, it wasn't surprising that he did everything he could to get in. Screaming, Crying, Begging and countless attempts to bolt didn't help him the slightest bit.

Only half an hour later he calmed down, seeing that there was no getting around Sunkyu and much less around Minhyuk. He was trying to stay awake as he stared at the door of the E.R. to be the first ones to know about any changes.

Feeling a slight pressure on the right side of his head, he could see his brother who softly pushed it onto the girl's shoulder to his left, to make him go to sleep. "I don't want-" "Sleep. We'll maybe have to wait for hours until they tell us how she is and by that time you fell asleep anyways." Minhyuk cut him off, a small smile decorating his features. For the last time in a long time. "But I'm not sleepy." This time it was Sunkyu who pushed his head back onto her shoulder. "We'll wake you up the second we see the door open, okay?" She, also, flashed him a smile, although wider than the one his brother showed.

Letting his eyes wander around for a few seconds, he never let them rest on something for long before he nodded reluctantly. There was no point in arguing with them when they were clearly right. "Promise?" His voice was soft and somehow made his fatigue more obvious than it already was.

Already half asleep, he could hear his sister whispering a quiet 'Promise', as he closed his eyes, still waiting for his hyung to answer. Another low 'Promise' could be heard before the youngest fell into a deep slumber.

Another hour passed. Still no news. The three of them had been waiting for more than four hours and the girl couldn't help but also eventually get drowsy. "Sunkyu. You should go sleep too." Minhyuk's voice was a mere whisper when he noticed her trying to do everything she could to not fall asleep. "It's okay. I'm not sleepy." Her words almost made him scoff. His eyes still fixed on the door, he shook his head. "Why do I have the feeling that I heard those words before?" It took her a few seconds to get what he meant. The oldest looked at her youngest brother before looking at the second born.

"I'm really not tired." She had slight difficulties looking at him and not seeming weary. He knew her the best. It wouldn't be hard for him to find out that she could barely keep her eyes open.
"Seriously, Sunny. Sleep. I'll wake you up the second I see the door open, yeah?" For the first time in four hours, he looked at something other than the inanimate object opposite the row of chairs they were sitting on. "And why do I have the feeling that I heard those words before?" Her lips curved into a small, playful smirk to which the younger simply shrugged and nodded to the head of Daniel, urging her to rest her head on her brother's and fall asleep as well.  A small sigh escaped as she nodded once and did what she was told.

The door was yanked open thirty minutes later. A woman dressed in completely green clothing, carried a small, crying something, wrapped in a few blankets out of the room rather fast, accompanied by two other women. Minhyuk immediately nudged his younger brother to his left before he stood up and shook his sister awake. "The door opened. Three nurses ran out of the room. One of them probably carried our new sibling." Sunkyu's eyes widened at the news. "Why? What's wrong?" She couldn't help but leap up, waking the younger, who was still half-asleep on her shoulder only a second before, up completely.

Surprised by the sudden awakening, the three year old started to sob before he broke out into a cry. "I don't know." the second born shrugged as his sister tried to calm the now only second youngest down.

"Hey, children." at the voice of the doctor they've met briefly when their mother was  admitted to hospital, Daniel's cry calmed down. All of them sensed something bad when they saw the expression on his face. He crouched down to meet their eye level, giving Sunkyu the opportunity to read his nametag, although it took the eight year old a few seconds. Dr. Shin was written extra big. Unlike the other words that were probably the name of the hospital and the exact name of his profession. Words she didn't even care about enoughto read. The elder patted Minhyuk's shoulder - much to his dislike - as he tried to find the right words.

"I'm so sorry to tell you....your Umma's sick....I think something went wrong....we also can't contact your father...I'm so sorry." Her eyes widened and tears streamed down the girls cheeks at the sound of these words. It seemed like a dream to her - to all of them - but it was the brutal reality. Minhyuk's eyes also getting watery, he clenched his fist. To him, it was the doctor's fault, he was sure. They did something wrong, no doubt. He didn't even care whether it was by accident or not, he was mad at them. If he wouldn't have been in shock, he would've punched the man in front of him and ran into the room his mother was lying in. Was slowly dying in.

Even Daniel, with his three years of age, completely understood what was going on. He didn't even hesitate a second after the doctor half said, half mumbled the words until he started to cry out loud.

None of them was able to move for several seconds. That was until the six year old pushed the man to the side and ran into the room they had been staring at. After finally realizing what happened, Sunkyu took the second youngest into her arms and ran inside. Dr. Shin didn't stop them. There was no reason to do so.

The oldest found her brother standing next to their mother's bed, crying. It was probably the first time she saw him cry since he'd been four. Placing Daniel on top of the bed, she stood on the other side of it, he eyes already turning red from the tears that streamed down her cheeks.

"Umma." Daniel's voice was almost inaudible as a big lump in his throat clogged his voice. He was sitting next to her lying body. Her breathing was soft and steady, indicating that she was sleeping and -  more importatnly - alive.

The lids of her eyes slowly opened, revealing her hazel colored eyes. As soon as she saw her kids crying next to her bed, she felt her eyes getting teary as well.

"My Babies. Come here." Her voice was calm and reassuring. The two older children climbed onto the bed as well, as Mrs. Lee sat up to take all of them in her arms. She hugged them and placed as many kisses on their faces as she could. They'd been the light of her life and she'd been theirs. Sentences like 'I love you.' and 'It's okay.' left her lips as she tried to calm them down.

As much as she wanted to cry as well because she just gave birth to another light which she'll never get to see growing up, she had to stay strong. For them.

"Kids, listen carefully." Looking around, she made sure that everybody nodded first to indicate her that they'd do what they were told. "My lovely kids. My beloved Babies. I will always be by your side. I will always watch over the four of you. You are the people I love the most and I hope you don't change the way you are. You are all beautiful human beings. I know we don't have as much time as we all would like but I want you to know that I will always love you and that you are never alone."

She looked at Sunkyu as she her head. "You are a wonderful girl, daughter and older sister. Please, Sunshine, don't change that. Stay the great, strong, caring and beautiful girl you are now. Don't change and take care of your three younger brothers. Please do me the favor. Can you do that?"

The small girl only nodded as another sob escaped . She placed a kiss on her mother's cheek before she rested her head on her shoulder. Mrs. Lee pecked her daughter's lips once more, knowing that it could be the last time she had the chance to do so.

"My sweetheart Minhyuk." The grown woman ran her fingers through the sobbing boy's hair before she cupped his cheek and wiped his tears away. "Seems like you are the oldest man in this family now." She didn't stop talking at the sight of the confused face on her son's face. "I... Your father. He's gone as well. But he went away because of me, so don't worry it's not your fault."

None of the kids cared if it was their fault or not. Minhyuk even felt a brief feeling of happiness at her words. He hated that man and he hated how he treated them and his mother. His 'father' was a heavy alcoholic and often beat them even if there was no reason.

"Please also do me the favor and don't change. You're a handsome, responsible, wise and mature boy. Take care of Sunny, Daniel and Jeongguk." Even though the name unfamiliar to them, they all knew that it must be the youngest addition to their family. "Don't let anything happen to them, okay? Promise?" Minhyuk surpressed another sob as he nodded, his mother pulling him closer to herself to let him rest his head on her free shoulder before she pecked his lips.

A small, sad smile appeared on her lips as she looked down at her second youngest clinging onto her as tightly as possible as if it would keep her alive if he'd just hug her tight enough. The tears didn't slow down the slightest bit as she kissed the top of his head.

"My beloved Daniel. You used to be the youngest only half an hour ago and now that you aren't anymore you seem even more like an adult to me." His face was still buried in his mother's chest. She was well aware that he tried to behave like an adult when his parents weren't there or when he was playing with his friends. "You too, stay like you are. The wonderful, funny, bright son I gave birth to. Light your siblings day up when they're tired or sad. Can you do that for me, my little sunshine?"

No words, just another nod.

"Look at me, Baby." Her smile grew but it didn't quite reach her eyes. The boy looked up at her, tears still streaming down his face as he pecked her lips when she puckered them up to indicate him to give her one.

"Stick together, okay? Take care of your youngest brother Jeongguk. They'll give him to us soon." She let her eyes wander from one to another again, proud of every single one of them. "My babies. Now we have all seasons, don't we?" A small chuckle escaped her lips even though she knew that they wouldn't do the same. She really wanted to cry as well. Leaving her flesh and blood on their own sure destroyed her inwardly but she had to stay strong for her beloved ones.

They stayed in this position for half an hour, the crying of the kids slowly dying down as the nurse, who rushed out of the hospital room first, came down with the same little something in her hands like the first time Minhyuk saw her. Well, now he knew that it was rather a someone than a something. His youngest brother to be exact.

Everyone looked at the infant when Mrs. Lee took him into her arms. "Did you tell them everything, Mrs. Lee?" the nurse asked with a rather worried expression on her face. "Yes. And my mother will pick them in a few hours. Sadly she can't come as fast as she'd like to but it takes at least one and a half hours from Incheon to Seoul. And now that there's traffic it takes even longer." The woman in the bed replied calmly. The last thing she wanted was to cause worry.

With her kids in her arms, she could feel herself getting sleepier and, of course, weaker. The last thing that happened was that a thought popped up in her mind. 'At least I can die in a beautiful way. My beloved babies surrounding me.'

Her eyelids felt heavier and only a few minutes later she was asleep, then the continuous beeping sound of the machine turned into a permanent beeping sound. Daniel slowly lifted his head and shook her shoulder. "Umma. Jeongguk is suddenly crying. Umma." Little did he know that it was too late.
Nobody even tried to hold their tears in when they saw their mother resting peacefully in the arms of death.

Chapter 5: I actually started whimpering during the gifs. I had to run off with some water and take some deep breaths. The things that Sunny does to me, oh my god.

AND A GIF OF JUNGKOOK. WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT THAT, HUH? I feel like I'm dying here. . .

And the thing about Jungkook being hormonal because he's fall actually makes some sense. Fall is kind of unpredictable, with the sudden rain, and beautiful leaves.

Chapter 4: Yes yes, continue hitting me with that barrage of feels. Oh my god, those gifs! Sunny, and B-Bomb, and Niel... It's good that you didn't post a gif of Jungkook, because my poor little heart wouldn't be able to handle it.

Also, the story was really good. I'm still confused as to WHY he acted this way, but at least he knows he's doing wrong and feels guilty about it. But I'm scared for Jungkook, B-Bomb seems he would be pretty mad.

Chapter 3: I wonder why Jongkook's so moody. Maybe because his birthday is so closely linked with such a tragic day? I dunno. My guesses for this sort of thing usually tends to be way off. Anyways, update soon!
