Krystal gathered the scattered envelopes and held the stack of envelopes in her palms, lifting and examining them. The stack of envelopes was visibly old from the yellow edges of the envelopes. They varied in sizes, some larger than others, some about to burst from the contents hidden inside. The envelopes were addressed to her mother and Krystal remembered Jongin had passed them to her a few days earlier. Krystal took the letter placed at the top of the stack and tore it open, pulling out a letter that had turned yellow. She began to read it, even though she knew she shouldn’t be reading something that had been addressed to her mother.

Dear Mum,

I used to tell Dad he fell in love with the wrong woman. I used to tell him that he shouldn’t have met you, shouldn’t have loved you, for it would have eased the pain we’re feeling in our lives today. Yet he did, and you walked away like everything was fine. You hoped everything was fine. You hoped to place everything back to day one. You wished you never met Dad, and then you wouldn’t have to fall in love with the wrong guy in your sad love story. You wanted to erase everything; you wanted to erase us from your life. You thought you could fix your fairy tale.

You left.

But you didn’t just leave; you left your lost, broken-hearted daughter behind too.
